I keep my car's gas tank full from beginning to end of hurricane season every year. I wouldn't say I'm a true prepper, but I'm always ready, probably because Ive lived in Japan many years and there's no predicting earthquakes beyond a few seconds.

I’m no rocket scientist but if they want to make a difference…. I’d think the physics used in the game of Billiards would’ve made more sense. Had they used “english” (billiard terminology) that may have made a difference to effect the spin IF that tiny car sized object at the top THIRD of a sphere… Maybe THAT would’ve created enough spin to effect the orbit. A “direct hit” would be like a bug hitting a windshield. Most asteroids are iron, nickle, heavy, solid metals. That Puny #DART Effecting a “tiny” satellite DEAD CENTER may be a bad choice. They perhaps needed a bar room pool player to get advice from.

Well Tom has a point, they didn't even know the Northridge quake was going to hit because they didn't know the earth was cracking in half in the area! The platectonics were so powerful it felt like the earth snapped in two pieces. Then the after shocks felt it just kept cracking.

That little rock likely gets hit on a regular basis, by rocks that dwarf that little probe thingy, and it is still in orbit of the bigger rock. We can hit it, (yaaa) but we need to go again, with something much bigger, if we want to have any significant effect on its path. Last time I checked, E=MC squared

Even if the the satellite did not change the orbit of the asteroid at least we know we can target one with good accuracy. I think they should do it again further out but put a massive nuke on it and see if we can blow one up just for fun. I think that would be a better use for nukes than what they were originally intended for.
