I have two Suzukis - one being the 1500 Intruder. In 4 years (2012-15) I rode 150,000 + km. Two long trips - an 80 day 43,00 km trip through Canada & the States; the other a 70 day ride through western Europe. Very comfortable, very reliable, very stable. As stated the gas tank is small but that makes for regular stops to stretch legs and take a break. For an older guy (71) like me it really served me well. I still have it but I also bought the Suzuki 1400 - a fun sport cruiser. By the way, this panel is nothing more than a H-D sales team. More than slightly biased.

Not sure if it has been mentioned or not in the comments yet, but it should be noted that the Valkyrie was designed, manufactured, and assembled in the U.S. All Valks come from Marysville Ohio. Josef Boyd was the project leader. In fact, I have had Harley guys try to poke fun at the Valk saying it is a "just a Japanese bike", and they really get sour when I point out that the Valkyrie is more "American" than their Harley, which was likely put together in Mexico. The only thing Japanese about a Honda Valkyrie is the Honda badge itself, otherwise, the machine itself is purely North American from the U.S.A. Just a little side note there that their "experts" didn't seem to know (or discuss)

I had a Valkyrie for one season and it was awesome. Previously owned and modified by a mate, it had 6 exhaust pipes and sounded brilliant. With rear air suspension and Honda CBR600 front brakes, it went well, was all-day comfortable and stopped well. Wish I still had it tbh.

I've owned a Valkyrie for 11 years. Painted it and changed a few bits. Trounces all other Harley, BMW etc. that I've had. Love it to bits and therea is a very enthusiastic friendly Valk community world-wide. You regurlarey hear people say 'Pulled my Valk up against a pack of Harleys and everyone (Harley riders and public alike) make a beeline to look at the Valk first. Utterly superb bikes and one guy in US has over 750,000 miles on his and never had to crack open the engine, just regular sevicing and a couple of alternators wearing out. If you are thinking about one they are the best modern custom available. Ridden mine all over Europe, over the Alps, to Rome etc. from UK. Never missed a beat or any issues at all. Go get one! *********** Note: at 16:22 when the 'expert' announces that the Honda VTX 1800 V-twin shares the same engine as the 'incoming Goldwing 1800' flat six boxer. Errr????

It is hard for me to believe that my Valkyrie is over twenty years old and It still get many compliments even at 80,000 miles. The bike standout of the crowd with out any customization, though I did find the need for some necessities air horn , Rifle touring windshield, alarm, the largest leather saddles bags I could find, and most important is the all leather Russel day long saddle. Without which I could only last 1 tank of gas or 100 miles. Before getting the Russel day long saddle I was considering highway foots rests, but do not care for the foot forward riding position or the looks of them. Many riders are supersized that I have been riding it for twenty years and will be for at least several more. My goal for this bike is to roll over the 100,000 miles on it. The hardest part of owning this bike has been finding a detail oriented mechanic who is not under pressure to get it out the door ASP. The last seven times I have had it serviced in a row I have had to return it to get the hasty work performed cleaned up. The most limiting characteristics of the bike are it's #1 40 inch width when splitting lanes, thirsty six carburetors and no sixth gear( mileage between 19-33 mpg), the crappy little horn on a very quiet bike with the stock exhaust system. The most memorable moments I have had on it, High siding @ thirty mph- I walked away with out a scratch and finished the ride to the party and then home somehow the nice stock purple and white paint was untouched. Driving over gravel in corners getting sideways and thinking "crap I am going down" only to have it hook up and finish the corner(several times). Having a Mercedes change lanes quickly into mine, which I had previously pondered. My first thought was shit I am not wearing my full hyde leather jacket ! I had no time to press the air-horns as I was trying to move to the left, the car on the left saw it happening and was giving space. She slammed on the brakes when she heard her car hit my case bars, which accented the small dent with a well earn scrath down the side of her car. The bike wobbled lightly and thankfully she pulled back and over. On a group ride with a local club, their mechanic on a V-rod and I were stopped at a red light. The light turned green and we got on it. After three or four gears he looked over and his eyes nearly popped out in disbelief. That my stock Valkyrie was right there next to his modified V-rod. Then he wanted to ride the Valkyrie after that he told me that he understood something I had been saying when pressured to join the club. which was I am not selling my Valkyrie to buy a Harley! So this article may be old, my bike maybe old(looks new) and I am old(not telling) I could not agree more with their conclusion . The Valkyrie has been well worth the $11,600 I payed for it!

I have a 1999 Valkarie 1500GL what a bike it is it routinely eats up Harleys whenever i encounter one. A Suzuki M109 is a beast and a modern day super quick monster but i was right with him when we was at a red light. Many modern day big torquey bike may beat it today like the VMax Rocket 3 and maybe a VRod. But when riding the freeways few bikes can rival its superlatives from front to back.

Jonathan Young As I got older it because less convenient to try and do things on a bike. I then started to realize I enjoyed driving my little convertible sports cars. Also accidents started to become a real concern. When I first started riding motorcycles, only doctors and drug dealers had cell phones. And the were in bags. As more and people started getting into texting and driving, I noticed a serious uptick in close calls. The big fear used to be someone pulling out in front of me. Then it started to get were I had to worry just as much about being rear ended or hit head on by distracted phone users. Also given the choice between the two, women seemed to also prefer a 2 seat sports car over a bike. I love that bike. I occasionally think I’ll get another. Then I drive a little sports car and the thought passes. Hate to say it, but I guess I grew up/ old a little? 🤷🏼‍♂️ Valk best bike I ever had. Better bike than any of my biker friends ever had. And they knew it too. Marky P.S. I started on 600cc sport bikes. P.P.S. I knew multiple guys seriously, seriously injured on bikes. And one killed. That was his SECOND time being hit.

Yeah same thing. We still have one Goldwing and one ST1300. I rode a few more miles on my 'Wing but as comfy as it is, the Valk had presence. Believe me, when I parked and took my helmet off the looks I got were half the fun. Nobody expected a 5'3" 140 pound woman to be on that massive bike. My favorite though was at a stop light, a guy in a Ford truck yelled out his window, "nice Harley, mister." I said thank you but she's not a Harley and I'm not a mister. I still chuckle over that. Did you have the standard or the tourer?

I put 70,000 on my Valk. I named her Maggie. I sold her to a guy who put 20 k on her then I bought her back. The reason I sold her was to get my 1800 wing. I have to admit when I rode to Florida I took my Wing, named Mattie. But I put some miles on Maggie too. Then a 15 year old kid plowed into me and put a serious dent in my riding ability. Now I have a 250 Virago. Starting over is tough because I want to be the rider I was before. But hey my knees are still in the breeze. Oh when the kid hit me I was on Mattie so Maggie is still cherry.

I was sucked into the Valkyrie when I opened up my latest copy of Rider magazine. The centerfold had a side view of the bike. The caption read "The Fat Lady Has Sung," I was hooked. I showed the picture to my husband and told him I found my next bike. I bought my Valk the 25th of July 1997 then rode it to Sturgis. I've had other bikes but the Valkyrie is the bike of my heart. When I started down sizing, 6 bikes were enough, I gave her to my son-in-law as I couldn't bear to sell her. The caveat being he couldn't sell it till I was dead or senile. She still runs like a champ and is just as beautiful. And I still get to throw a leg over her when I visit.

You're right lot of those bikes were not available yet - 97 the first year valkyrie is what I have now I've had two of them, I used to have Harley's I love the Valkyries What They said and more about the valkyrie and it is a reliable bike. But for me you have to put the 6 into 6 Cobra exhaust on it sounds Wicked especially without the baffles I've had custom Harleys regular Harleys and the valkyrie is the best riding bike that I've had, either way it handles so well, heavy as it is, it is so awesome but I love all bikes.

Owning a Valkyrie for 16 years now it's a Hell of a machine. I owned a 1969 XLH Sportster( worst bike ever) ,then 1972 FLH Dresser ( second worst bike ever), 1977 R100RS BMW ( Nice bike vibrated to much) But It's mid 90's technology and there are so many newer machines out there. Lots of new technology out there in the newer cruisers. What they should of done is bikes by the decades.

I have had Yamaha's for 43 years and 2 Goldwings . The wings were great long haul cruisers . My last big bike was a Yamaha V-STAR 1100 bagger . Really liked the shaft drive , nothing better , didn't care much for the V-twin motor , but gave no problems . had it 8 years and sold it for more than I paid , can't go wrong there . Got my eye on the Kawasaki Vulcan 650 bagger , had a 500 and took many really long trips. Only problem was the saddle .

These guys are not cruiser riders and just don't rate the "expert" title they have been given as far as cruisers go. I really dont care that Billy whats-his-name thinks "It's not my cup of tea." He is really saying what are you asking me for? I don't like cruisers." This is proven by the fact that they picked 2 bikes at the top that are not even considered by traditional cruiser people.

The V-Rod and Yamaha Roadliner (which debuted far after this video was made) were at the top of my list when bike shopping this year but both were too pricey. The Valkyrie was next but I found a VTX 1800 much closer. The Valkyrie looks better but it also has carburetors which I'm sick of dealing with. We'll see how the VTX works out. I prefer a Honda, Indian, or Kawasaki from what I have been looking @. And I want an exhaust pipe out each side.....No two pipes on one side stuff. The only bike I've seen that I really like is the Honda Valkyre 1500. It's a 2000 model used for sale with 30,000 mi for $5k. I would appreciate educated thoughts on what to get. The other machines were just Harley clones to me.My brother has a Honda CB1300 X4, and wow what a beast, even though it has an inline4 cylinder engine, so I suppose its not really considered a cruiser, but it certainly turnsheads.

I test rode almost all 2019 Harleys and none of them were worth the exponentially more entertaining to ride than my bike at the time - a 2001 Yamaha Roadstar 1600. I paid $3100 (USD) for my bike and every one of those bikes cost at least 3x as much. Now the Harleys may have been easier to live with - fuel injection, dealer experience, warranty, and the Road King and Street Glide would undoubtedly be better on long trips but test to test ride they weren't that much better.

I have ridden the Valkyrie, and several Goldwings. The Valkyrie's engine is very imposing looking, and has plenty of power. And I love it's 6 carburetors. I like most carbureted bikes, and literally despise fuel injected ones. But hyour e Valkyrie has no character. It's smooth and quiet, just like a Goldwing. If I could have my pick of these bikes, it would be an older carbureted Harley-Davidson SuperGlide, with aftermarket pipes, so it sounds like a Harley. With a cruiser, speed, power, and handling take a back seat to feel (meaning v-twin vibration) sound,, looks, and comfort. Sport bikes are torture machines. They pretty much have no seat, the pegs are about where the turn signals should be, and the clip on bars are about halfway down the forks.. Your back is nearly horizontal, and all your upper body weight is supported by your arms and shoulders. Because of your position, you have to bend your neck all the way back to see where you are going. I made a mistake and bought a sportbike once. Dumbest thing I've ever done. I had it less that a month when I sold it at a $2000 loss. I learned an expensive lesson. Now I ride only cruisers and dual sport bikes.

The HondaF6C MUSTbe a good bike as Casarva Trikes have chosen that model as one of the machines they sell adapted to be ridden by disabled people like myself. I suffered a serious stroke aged 45 and almost died. I have been left paraplegic and am totally paralysed in my left arm. I used to be an "Emergency Medical Courier Rider covering over a thousand miles a week on average and I really want to be able to get on a bike once again. The conversion that Casarva do is fitted with the Klicktronic Klever2 and electronic gearshift system. Without these adaptations I would not be able to ride again!!!

There are a lot of bikes missing from this list...Suzuki M109R, Yamaha Raider, Triumph Rocket III, Kawasaki V2K are all better cruisers than anything on this list, though I think the Honda VTX 1800 is a better cruiser than the Valk and the V-Rod...

.. Incredibly I have a Valkyrie It's a big bike for me 5 ' 9" 185 lbs and I have dropped it Luckily barely any scratches with the crash bars My Suzuki Blvd had a spill along with my aluminum trailer and the insurance allowed me to get the Valkyrie and keep the C50T Just revving the Valkyrie is a Joy like having a European Sportster on two wheels Lots of luggage space for two helmets and then some and the glide over most any roads in the States is absorbed with the suspension and cushy seats I haven't the need to winterize her the choke reaches deep to get her fired up and purring no problems whatsoever during the summer - she purrs right away as for the C50T it's time for the M109R ~ ...

I don't think the so called "panel of experts" have actually ridden any of the cruisers listed and have anything positive to say at all. Every bike had multiple negative comments, when actually 7/10 of the bikes are brilliant. Plus they need to stop comparing all cruisers listed to Harley Davidsons. The credibility of this review is extremely low.

I empathise with these (probably contracted) journos and why they look so pissed off with the fact that that producers are asking them about bikes they haven't ridden and have no interest in. I hope they're all still getting work after KZfaq though, since they don't seem to have any experience in a segment that manufacturers sell a lot of machines into.

The engine was good but the bike is uncomfortable to ride, handles very poorly and the fuel tank is so small it's a joke.By listening to these guys they rated it more on it's looks then anything. Very pricy for a crappy bike, imo.

Wow, how out of date is this? The 'expert' panel are clueless about these bikes, most haven't ridden them and the quote "the VTX1800 shares the engine with the GoldWing..." erm, NO! V-Rod - laugh - the worst depreciating of all Harleys. This shows that just like now, the British motorcycle press were clueless as far as anything other than sports bikes are concerned back at the turn of the 00's.

Dazzle Rebel These "experts" never touched any of these bikes. The Dyna section is ridiculous, one say "never rode it, but it looks super comfortable". Dude, only a Sportster is more uncomfortable than a Dyna. The other guy, "it is slow", man, turn that throttle good and it beats all of the other bikes easily except the VRod, which surprises me to be in a cruiser list while much better bikes like any Softail aren't.
