Thanks Claire... Wuthering Heights is one of my most treasured fictional novels that I've read three times over four decades. I was born in Yorkshire and left for Australia at the age of 12 years. I miss and dream of returning to live in the Yorks Dales / Moors. I did however, return for holidays in my teens and early 30s, where I experienced the same characterisation in myself as Catherine. I was lost in a Withering Heights spiritual world. All that was missing was a 'Heathcliffe'.

I`m in love with your way of describing books! The deep analysis of plots and images just absolutely fascinates me!!!! I`d really love to watch more of such book reviews. And the description of "Lolita" is so precise and clear. For me personally, this novel is so disturbing and controversial. There are other Nabokov`s novels that I really like, but the experience of reading "Lolita" wasn`t easy at all. By the way, have you already started Donna Tartt`s "Little friend"?

Great books. Love Wuthering Heights, Woolf and Sarah Perry! I really need to read Howards End, Madame Bovary and Lolita... I feel like we often like similar books :) Do you like Kazuo Ishiguro?

Your channel popped on to my ph. No , as a guy from the States , most of the books are not in my favor; but I love the way you talk about the novels, the content, the social and historical background. You speak of the women novelists in a way that makes me want to read them. I look at other book channels (the bookchemist guy). Good.

I’m reading Mrs. Dalloway for the first time right now and am just stunned by it. My favorite sentence of all-time is in To the Lighthouse. I did a whole video on that sentence. We’ll have to agree to disagree about Madame Bovary, though - the only thing that nearly redeemed that book was Emma’s fate. What an extraordinary scene there at the end.

Oh wow, that edition of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is beautiful. I've not seen it before. And the same goes for your copy of To The Lighthouse. Have you been tempted to read the recent massive novel Ducks, Newburyport? I only ask because elements of it reminded me of Mrs Dalloway so much (even though the author says she's never read it.) Really lovely to hear all your thoughts about these. I chat about my fav books of the past decade here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bNGAn6yhsa7OZ4U.html

Good list! Share a writer in common in Austen as a favourite, but no books. Have always found Woolf a difficult writer to like. Wonder what your list would look like if you confined to recent books published.

Gahhh I picked up Melmoth at the bookstore not knowing it's the Essex Serpent sequel. Finding it's a sequel, I haven't read it. I've meant to read it ever since the hype started. I just keep putting it off. Your video has made up my mind. This must stop. I'm buying Serpent. I have a similar story with Jonathan Strange. I borrowed it from the library and had to return it half done. I was *loving* it. Must pick that up, too. Also, not sure if I've told you: you may be pleased to know I've become a Virginia Woolf fan this year, courtesy of your encouragement . Mrs Dalloway and A Room Of One's Own live up to everything you said. They're masterpieces. It's good to see you around. I wondered if you'd gone for good. Bye for now.

@@Claire_Fenby Huh, it literally says, ".... and now, in Sarah Perry’s breathtaking follow-up to The Essex Serpent, it is heading in our direction." If it's not a sequel, that seems misleading. Is a follow-up a completely different animal to a sequel? :P Anyhoo, thanks. I shall read it.

Jeremiah Bok Yeah that’s badly worded... I guess they just mean it’s Sarah Perry’s next book but I can confirm it’s definitely not a sequel - very different novel!
