Oh, yes, ghost trick! That game is my 4th favorite game of all time behind Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, Super Paper Mario, and Mother 3, in order from 1 to 3. It's true that the game is very hard to talk about without spoiling it, it's basically plot twist: the video game, but that's why I love it.

If you're really that interested in talking about The Pain, might I suggest Top Ten Animal Wielders? It would be a bit unorthodox, but you could have The Pain, Abe from Oddworld, Snake Man or Hornet Man from Mega Man, Olimar from Pikmin, Catmancers in Bravely Second, etc.

Another thing about Boos: They may also be somewhat inspired by the original interpretation of the Oni. The kanji Oni means hiding, and the Oni were considered formless malevolent ghosts other than the ogres we now have today. Boos are a dead ringer for all of this.

One other thing I wanted to mention regarding king boo... I can't be the only one who threw their 3DS out of fear during THAT moment of Luigi's Mansion 2.

It's one of the best uses of Japanese Folklore to create a creepy atmosphere revolving around ghosts. 8.- Wait! He's a GHOST!? I mean, I know he's a dick, and a pirate, and a DICK...but I'd thought he was other type of undead. Huh. 7.- Huh. One of the few Pokemon I genuinely like. And he's looking more awesome now. 6.- ...Eh? Well, she's a banshee, and that's awesome...I just don't know about LoL. 5.- That's...one hell of an in-depth take on why this little blob is great. 4.- Oh yeah. This one is another great one. Also, interesting parallel to the Sanzu River. that does put the Metal Gear Universe on the moral gray, though(Snake is crosssing the average of the three crossings) 3.- Oh...the Onryo. One of my absolute favorite type of ghosts ever(if not THE favorite). The fact she's related by that concept to Sadako(and quite references her) just makes it so much better .Also, Ultratech are jerks. Like, they can't leave ANYONE alone, can they? 2.- ...as if Bioshock wasn't crazy enough before that. 1.- OH, FUCK YEAH! I love you for this! This game deserves SO MUCH MORE LOVE than it gets! GREAT List! I was a little underwhelmed by the last one, but this first pick is just GODLY.

The number 1 reminds of the more recent game Murdered: Soul Suspect. With the main character Ronan being a detective, trying to figure out who killed him. As well as figuring out how some other people died and interacting with objects like a poltergeist.

Man, my favorite videogame ghost... I may not have played a lot of games, but my god, do I love Yu (and Rei, too, I guess) from Puyo Puyo. Yu and Rei are twin ghost children with Yu being the face of the 2 characters since she talks way more often than her reserved brother. She wants people to be happy and offers her idea of eternal happiness to people by tell them they should be ghosts (with the whole weightlessness, ability to float and other ghostly attributes being major selling points to her), and offers to do it for them. She is an innocent child and doesn't realize this would mean actually killing them. Also, they love cracking puns and telling riddles and how many ghosts you know have spells called, "Who ya gonna call?" and "Rest in peace!", the latter in the cutest voice you can think of for a ghost?

Ya know why Hisako, instead of scaring me, is intriguing me? Onryo spirits are left on world of living to bring vengeance for those who wronged 'em, usually to deliver VERY malevolent methods on their victims. Unlike most onryos, Hisako's motives nor methods aren't sinister. She goes on a quest for revenge for the sake of her home village to punish those who desecrated the village and Hisako's shrine.

Huh.... I never thought of King Boo like that. He is basically the same to Luigi as Bowser is to Mario. The perfect foe. Where Bowser exceeds in strength where Mario also has to beat him with agility, King Boo and Luigi play mind games. KB trying to scary and use intimidation against Luigi where Luigi has to out smart him. He never goes for the tail in the first Luigi's mansion. He waits for a spiked ball, waits for his head to be leveled with him, and pop his head off so he can get to King Boo inside. That's actually clever now..... Makes me want it so we can get more Luigi vs KB boss fights now.

On the topic of a "The Pain" list, I've always thought that a "Top Ten Animal-Person Comboes" (probably a better name)

My favourite ghost of all time, though my experience with ghosts in video games in general has been limited, has to be Sachiko from the Corpse Party series. I'm not gonna explain why in order to avoid spoilers. There's also Gonbe's wife from one of the playable DLCs of Muramasa Rebirth (The Vita port of Muramasa: The Demon Blade), though I don't remember her name. I'd like to offer a counter theory to the secondary poison type on the original ghost Pokemon, though. Now, to be fair, I'm not 100% sure on the other ghost type Pokemon, because I haven't played much of the Pokemon games since Gen 1 (Yes, I'm old and I don't own any other Nintendo systems anymore. What of it?). I think, instead of Pestilence, it more refers to Curses. In Japanese horror, malicious spirits carry curses with them, often caused by any grudges they hold in death. In western horror, this is less of a thing as ghosts tend to hurt you because they just feel like it. And as Hisako demonstrates, a ghost with a grudge is a terrible thing as they can chase you literally FOREVER for the sole purpose of killing you. Essentially, it's like the Ju-On movies where just setting foot in Kayako's house gives both her AND Toshio reason enough to hunt you down until you're dead. And by hunt, I literally mean 'hunt'. They're practically behinnd you every step of the way until you die. So essentially, pissing off a ghost is like drinking poison. No matter what, you're going to die. Painfully and horribly. Though it took me watching this video a few times to actually think of it. On Hisako, though, this made me want to get Killer Instinct, but goddammit, I don't own an X-Box One either. -.- Oh, and to correct you on Sae. She wasn't sacrificed when she was thrown off the cliff. Sacrifices require preparation and ceremony. In the case of the ceremony in All God's Village, one twin has to strangle the other and the body is offered to the Abyss. The sacrificed twin becomes a butterfly and unites with the surviving twin where they become a guardian deity of the village. However, it takes it's toll on the twins, as evident throughout the game. While Sae was fine with being killed to unite with Yae, Yae wasn't crazy about it, so they made a plan to escape. I forget if they were the original sacrifices or the backup, but ultimately, both the ritual and the backup ritual failed and that's when all hell broke lose.
