Whether countries at war need some maritime surgery or less fortunate countries need some outsider help, hospitals and medical ships play a huge role in our world and are often the unsung heroes of the medical community and probably even have the best cure for seasickness! The us comfort shown is a recent one and was deployed to NYC when covid hit.

I deployed on the Comfort in 2010 during operation united relief. It was not decomisioned in 1948.

The Intrepid you were referring to and the one you showed are 2 entirely different ships, The one you depicted was actually an Essex Class Aircraft Carrier (CV-11) in WWII not a Hospital Ship.

1:47 the name on the side of the ship is "Juan de la COSA." The last word does *not* contain a 'T,' therefore, it is not the Juan de la CosTa."

Wrong Intrepid. The current USNS Comfort is also a converted tanker. Both ships are operated by the Military Sealift Command with civilian mariners. It takes a minimum of 5 days to get either of them ready to sail. They both do humanitarian missions. The Comfort just left for the Caribbean and the Mercy participates in the Pacific Partnership.

You missed the liner Aquitania during WW1, at a length of 900 ft and beds for 4011 patients, it's still the largest number ever carried on a single hospital ship.

16:20 If the USNS Mercy had 1,000 beds and 53 enlisted men and women, with only 15 additional personnel, I'd hate to have worked on that ship. With so few to care for the 1,000 patients at full capacity, that means 14 patients per staff member. A *LOT* of work for medical staff!
