The TOPS A-Klub (at around $200) is a unique looking machete-like tool designed by TOPS first female designer Amanda Kaye. This knife has a lot of functionality and for people with smaller to medium-sized hands, I think this thing has the potential to be a big win. Check out the video and let me know what you think.

Thanks for the review Tim. Unique looking blade but i think my Kershaw Camp 10 would still out perform it. It would be nice if they would make a Camp 10 in 3v, convexed and with kydex sheath, now that would be a total beast of a chopper. Cheers and stay safe!

I like the A-Klub a lot. It is a beautiful thing. But I don’t think I would ever take it out as a wilderness tool. For me, it would strictly be a hand weapon. Continental Divide through-hike, no. Zombpoc, yes.

I can't think of a worse idea than making a forward swept blade and then putting a secondary tanto point in the sweet spot. I really can't see what this offers. Different for the sake of being different I guess. Now if it was intended as a purely martial arts blade I could accept that, but it doesn't seem to offer much there either that isn't already covered by other superior designs in my opinion.

Just received my A-Klub, certainly tough enough be pressed into bushcraft, but balance/design/function is more an effective weapon; a weaponized kukri.

That is an extremely unique blade shape and it's interesting to know the designer was a woman, didn't know that before. I saw pics of this on the Tops IG page and to me, it seemed like it was a very inorganic shape that would make it difficult to find a sweet spot for chopping. This doesn't really fit into any of my systems, but it was a good review and the quality looked pretty on par for Tops, so no worries there.

I know people keep saying that this knife is kukri-esque. The more I look at the knife, the more I think the designer is a Star Trek fan, with a jones for the Klingons. This blade definitely resembles the Klingon mek'leth introduced in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine when Worf became part of the show.

It's an interesting design for sure but I feel like it just fails at a wilderness chopping tool, maybe it might do more damage against soft targets or clearing brush/small branches.

Sorry guys, I'm gonna judge a book by its cover, your hand goes pass the strike zone, inconvenience of the swing. A knife sharpened backwards on the wrong side.
@1968gadgetyo
@1968gadgetyo 4 жыл бұрын
Never like using a lanyard. I think it's dangerous. If your hand slip, the knife could swing back and hit you. So it's already a fail. I prefer a loose 'pinch grip'. Matt Flower from Condor knives explained how he grip his machete. And the 'sweet spot' is very narrow. Unlike a Parang which has a larger 'sweet spot'.
@DavidMaryCustom
@DavidMaryCustom 3 жыл бұрын
Joe Flowers. And yes the way he is using a lanyard makes it more dangerous rather than less. He should use the lanyard like this. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qbGcmthk1K_Zoqc.html&ab_channel=DavidMary

Looks like the most self sabotaging blade shape in existence. The disrupted sweetspot alone. Also when you lose grip of the blade with the lanyard around your wrist the thing will swing around wildly and chop into your arm or torso. It needs to stick to your palm.
