Tornado Destroys Starbucks in Kokomo Indiana (caught on camera)

A tornado destroys a Starbucks coffee shop at the Markland Mall in Kokomo, Indiana and was caught on camera.
Despite the tornado's damage and destruction, no one was injured. Eyewitness Brandon Mobley said he and others ran to help after recording the close up viral video of the tornado as it demolished the store. Mobley described witnessing the powerful twister smash through the store to reporters at the scene later in the day but said he believed they “would brew coffee again.”

Wanna see something amazing? If you virtually "drive" through this parking lot on google maps, as you approach the Chilis this video was made in, you get a picture snapped on August 2016 which shows the Starbucks completely gone from the parking lot. Then, if you click forward again, you get other pictures as far back as 2013 and as recently as this year that show the Starbucks there.

That’s the type of tornado that scares me the most. That tornado was completely rain wrapped. You would have no way of seeing that twister until it was nearly on top of you!

Looks like the tornado was on the left, those winds were the inflow blowing into the tornado. If it hit the building directly it would have been blown away and the cars in the lot would be picked up. When buildings get pulled to one side it's usually the inflow. You can see it blowing across the parking lot as well.

Dumbasses. 7-11 will give you a GALLON of coffee for your thermos for like 1.50 and it's not burnt to hell. In fact, on the 30 minute mark some places dump the coffee and make fresh. I'd get there at 1:28 and ask for the free stuff they're going to dump out. Lol

I was in my middle schools basement when this happend. Some girl was just like “OMG STARBUCKS IS GONE!” I was like yeah, okay. A few days later, I saw the ruble. Also, there were a total of 7-8 tornados this day. No one in this city really knows how many touched down. Tbh, no one in kokomo really talks about it because of how terrifying this was. Here in kokomo, we NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER have tornados. But this day was the day. 7 tornados! We all thought kokomo would be gone. (At least I did.) But yeah, long story short, everyone was okay and they quickly rebuilt that Starbucks. We haven’t talked about that day since then.

I live in Logansport (for those unaware, Logansport is about a 45 min drive from Kokomo) and I've been told Kokomo gets tornados every few years 🤔🤔 most likely misinformation on my part. I remember going to school the next day and everyone was talking about it. I looked up videos on my school chromebook, this being one of them. Would stuff. If I remember correctly (and my memory is poor) we handle had any bad weather in Logansport. Rain was a little heavy but nothing major. I was glad when I heard that the damage to Kokomo wasnt too bad.

I remember this day. I got home from school, and all of a sudden tornados started popping up everywhere. My dad and I saw one forming near our house, but going the opposite way. We had no shelter in our house because it's old and small, so we stayed in our living room wondering what the hell to do. Luckily, none hit us.

If your house is old and it's in central Indiana, I'd bet there was a storm shelter on the property somewhere. It might be hidden now but they'd have been nuts not to have one. Ask around among your older neighbors.

If no storm cellar, go get in the bathtub leaving your clothes and shoes on. Take a mattress to put over your body. Walls around bathtubs are stronger usually. Another option is an interior closet Have your phone and weather radio so you hear updates on tornadoes. Keep a "go" bag with whistle, storm radio, meal replacement bars, bottled water, emergency foil blankets, flashlights. When the watch starts keep your bag near you and drag mattress to tub. You will be more ready when watch goes to warning. Keep similar bag in your car. Whistle is extremely important because good way to alert rescue you are needing help.

I live in Kokomo. This tornado happened in November. Right after Starbucks it crossed a major highway and did great damage to a subdivision. I believe this was the second tornado we had in November. I believe back to back yrs. Took same track. Much damage but thank God no deaths.

I was further west and south following the tornado trying to get to my wife and daughter... The 4x4 Jeep earned its keep that day. I believe the year before, tornado picked up a 2 story house and set it gently down in the middle of Home Avenue.

That was scary for me because i was 8, i woke up, came out of my room, and my mom told me we were probably going to have a tornado. i live in Connersville, Indiana. And this video was all over the news, scaring me... I'm 10 now though, and so greatful that I wasnt in a tornado that day.

Depends on the strength of the tornado and the orientation of the building face, relative to the wind direction. That is, if the wind was hitting the building face straight on, then I can see it happening. Tornadoes can toss around full size trucks like paper clippings.

My mother-in-law was huddled in her bathroom with her dogs when this happened. She lived right behind this shopping area at the time. She said she heard the building crash, and that it was really loud. They rebuilt not long after.

Note the low wind speeds here, typical of an ordinary severe thunderstorm. This a very good example of how poor construction and or building code violations can contribute to catastrophic damage. I would estimate that the wind speed here was around 70 mph at most and only lasted about 40 seconds.

I remember the ones that dropped out of nowhere on Palm Sunday 1968. Saw the clouds spinning as the system moved north of Muncie. Scared my 12 year old self badly.

Closer, but still no. Didn't even need the survey to tell, from past experience, that that was the mesocyclonic winds that the tornado drags behind it. Better known as inflow winds. That's why the building collapsed upon the roof blowing off, but then yet the parking lot wasn't wiped out. Even the survey's said due to strong winds.

i remember coming home from school that day and doing my homework in the middle of this huge storm. and when the local news quickly cut from the tornado doppler tracker thing to show this video right after it happened i was terrified. But thankfully, no tornadoes have come super close to downtown indy yet. or at least in the recent years.

I love there in a off-set neighborhood there in Kokomo, the house to the left and right of me were partially destroyed from the tornado and my house left almost entirely untouched
