This guy was on Loretta in Spring, Texas and I dont think he's ever chased in this area before. I live up the road in The Woodlands. Looks like EVERY other thunderstorm in the coastal part of Texas. I think he is looking for the tornadic storms that form in the central and northern part of the state. Austin, Waco, DFW. Studying weather and being a chaser I figured they'd know chances of something stronger than an F1 F2 are better farther north. This is not saying tornadoes don't happen around here. But if he's looking for a wedge....head up I45.

Houston is usually pretty disappointing to storm chasers. Most tornado's here are EF0 or EF1 and last only a few seconds. The May 1983 and November 1992 outbreak were exceptions.
@spartan71993 жыл бұрын
I know, it's like I want a severe thunderstorm to happen just because I am hoping to see my first tornado in the city. The only time I saw a tornado was near Fort Stockton in West Texas.

Is it normal to have even very mild tornadoes in TX that early in the year? My friend just told me that there was a reported tornado tonight not too far from where she was staying just north of Columbus, OH and I've seen a few videos of the Washburn, IL tornado in February. That's crazy early in the year for the Midwest, but is January too early for TX? Is it just me or are weather patterns majorly screwed up this year?

Nice. Houston isn't the best place to chase tornado's for a few reasons. I remember the ONLY good chase I had was while I was coming home from work. I was south of the ship channel, Pasadena area as a tornado ripped through Woodforest, Channelview area in the 90s. I've chased a few mezos in Houston, wan't lucky but I will tell where some good snake hunting spots are. Brazos river turnaround 59 south. Head to the power plant and scan the tree line at night. For green snakes, just look up and you will see their bellies. Addics damn area is good as well. Thanks for sharing all your snake/tornado post. Tell yall a story. My son and I were hunting snakes at night and we had caught a few. Apparently somebody thought we were suspicious and called the cops. Police should up and asked what we us what we had in the bag. I told him we had snakes in the bag. At that moment, he pointed his flashlight at the bag only to see the bag snakes start moving. His eyes got real big and he just walked away in silence, didn't say a word . But them eyes...Can't help but chuckle when thinking about it

You be right. Those of us who LIVE here in the Houston area knows that was a typical strong thunderstorm here in Houston. The low clouds looked very much like the typical storm front that roll through here often. Dallas, Austin.....places up north and in Central Texas provide better weather conditions for large tornadoes. Last time Houston had anthing remotely close to an F3- F4 around here was in Katy in 1992.
