NOT FOR REBROADCAST
In 2023 there currently have been 1165 confirmed tornadoes in the United States (as of Nov 27). That's just under the annual average. For some storm chasers, 2023 was a great year, for others, very challenging and disappointing. Though I documented 20 tornadoes, I personally fall somewhere in between as I missed the majority of the spectacularly photogenic tornado events in Iowa, Nebraska and Colorado. The year was characterized by nontypical chase setups in fringe states like Mississippi, Arkansas and Illinois as well as several hard to forecast long range, upslope set ups in Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming. Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas had lower than average storm events it seems as the days of May Lee Low triple point set-ups rolling across the Plains were almost absent. Remarkable supercell structures were abundant across the entire alley.
REMARKABLE STORM EVENTS FEATURED:
On March 24, Powerful Tornadoes impacted MS, AL and TN at night. Morning light revealed catastrophic EF4 rated damage in Rolling Fork Mississippi
where 17 people lost their lives. Storm Chaser Brandon Clement documented the incredible damage with his drone. See his incredible video on his channel here...
• Rolling Fork Mississip...
3.31 ARKANSAS
Racing toward me at 50 mph was a killer EF3 In Arkansas. After ripping through Little Rock and Jacksonville, this tornado would injure 50 people
and miraculously only one fatality was reported. However, this outbreak was just beginning. another large, intense tornado was about to tear through Wynne Arkansas. In its wake of obliterated homes, the high end EF3 claimed the lives of 4 people.
4.04 ILLINOIS & IOWA
A fast moving tornadic supercell tracked from Missouri into Illinois. Several chasers were hit by a tornado with max EF3 rated damage. Luckily, the chasers would all survive. Because of the the high precipitation storm mode, extremely fast cell motion and difficult chasing terrain, I kept my distance. Over in Iowa, Scott Currens was documenting an incredibly photogenic tornado. See his footage here...
• Awe-Inspiring Rope Tor...
4.19 KANSAS
One storm in eastern Kansas would produce 8 tornadoes after sunset that would traverse mostly open country in the Flint Hills. Elsewhere near OKC, interacting supercells danced in a Fujiwhara effect producing numerous tornadoes.
5.12 NEBRASKA
A long tracking EF2 would track North near Lyons Nebraska where it was wrapped in heavy rain. a couple other EF2s would touch down during this outbreak including a photogenic tornado producer near Greeley and Spaulding Nebraska.
6.15 TEXAS & OKLAHOMA
The event of the day was a deadly EF3 tornado tearing through Perryton Texas, ending the lives of 3 people and injuring 100 others.
6.21 MATADOR TEXAS
On June 21, another extremely dangerous storm was tracking over a region with limited roads. While I was giving the storm a wide birth, Daniel Shaw managed to capture and report the intense rain-wrapped tornado prior to it striking Matador Texas. His reports directly resulted in locals seeking shelter. Unfortunately 4 deaths occurred. You can see Daniel's incredible account of this event here...
• Hidden Monster Tornado...
6.23 WYOMING
On June 23 in I finally scored some pretty tornadoes in Wyoming. The largest of the tornadoes would impact the outskirts of the small town Hawk Springs. No fatalities were reported. Chasing around the scenic bluffs and challenging road network, I managed to eek out a couple more tornadoes as the cyclic supercell moved into Nebraska. A damaging tornado would prompt a tornado emergency in Scott's Bluff and Gering as locals evacuated town. Fortunately no fatalities occurred.

And there's always moments that feel really special in a human way too. These are one of the reasons I really love his videos, and they always make me smile. An example in this video is 7:22. It's so rare he is stressed about things that really don't matter. He even has his emotions controlled well in life-threatening scenarios. I think these moments are also poetic in both the content of the message, but also its delivery: "AND! ... they didn't have... any golden grahams... at Love's... ...but they did have... Cinnamon. Toast. Crunch", and "but I think between venting to you guys, and my Cinnamon Toast Crunch... everything's gonna be okay" I LOVE IT. A true artist of the craft

@lifted_above
@lifted_above 5 ай бұрын
@@mommawolf9653 Another example unrelated to this channel, sometimes in automotive reviews, there is a follow or chase vehicle with a film crew filming a vehicle's performance as it moves around curves and over hills, and the driver is talking about the vehicle live. But when the camera perspective changes to behind the vehicle, there is no sign of a camera car in front of the vehicle which was just providing the footage given moments ago. This technique is used commonly, and spliced together in editing to give the impression that everything happening on the screen is live, that the camera filming it is invisible, like a set of eyes in the sky.

Hank I absolutely adore everything you do! Not only are your videos packed full of fun and adventure but I feel like I learn so much from you! I enjoy meteorology and Enviromental Science deeply and you are one of the people who inspire me to learn the most! I'd love a video someday or even just a snippet of how this became your life! The routes and challenges that lead you to where you are today! Love always!!!

We love what you do Hank, from goofy animal rescues to mass destruction of tornados. You are so educational and intelligent, plus just funny and a warm hearted soul. Your videos don't only bring education and storm chasing, it show how human we all are and how times of vulnerability can be. We love it all Hank, and you are such a great person helping all those people whom homes and such were lost to the tornados.

2023 was certainly an unusual year for tornadoes, from the unexpected Double High-Risk Setup from March 31st to going from a slow spring season to an active summer. Thanks for all you do, Hank!

@@Madrrrrrrrrrrrclearly you are not that educated on tornadoes. I don’t mean to sound like an asshole. Everyone who chases was new at one point. An EF3 tornado is extremely strong and can absolutely destroy majority of structures. Just because it doesn’t wipe a foundation clean doesn’t mean it’s not strong. EF5 is so strong the human brain cannot even comprehend it. If you ever get into chasing and see a tornado I think you will comprehend how strong they are a little bit better. Seeing them in person gives you a better understanding of how powerful they are. Whenever people ask me I tell them it looks fake. It’s so hard to comprehend what you are looking it. You can smell, hear and sometimes feel them. It’s a earththy, tree, leaf and dirt smell and a roar that I always associated with a waterfall.

I live around maybe an hour from Wynne. If that storm was a few miles north, that would have been my town. I’m so glad that the Wynne School District dismissed early as well as any other school district including mine that day as it was the right call. Because if school had still been in session in Wynne, the situation would have been so much worse.

I’m 63. At 63, you don’t have many hero’s. But if I did again….Pecos, you’d be that person. From “grasshopper navigators” to being ethically-conflicted. From “Big Daddy Sprites” to flatulent Bullfrogs. You blend cool music, a profound passion for nature, humour, humility, a deep knowledge for your subject, and compassion for people, animals….and gas station food. Above all, you’ve got a thing for Tornadoes that you relate to us, that just really resonates with me. Thank you Pecos, for 2023.

2023 really was nuts for tornadoes. Had to drive to a funeral across country in July of last year, and at a rest stop in Iowa a tornado started forming right above the rest stop just as we were leaving. Lots of people were taking photos but we just wanted to get the heck out lol We waited out the storm in a town so that if we needed to find shelter we could. Luckily we didn't need to. Beautiful video and music as always! You do an amazing job documenting these storms while being respectful of the victims and survivors.

Mr. Hank I love the work you do, and the sweet spirit with which you do it. I've got just one note for you. At 1:13, you didn't specify where in Louisiana that tornado happened. I'm from Alabama. I grew up taking cover from tornadoes. Well, in 2016 I found myself working at a small zoo in Broussard, Louisiana. You know '16 was a rough year down that way. I'd never seen catastrophic flooding before. It scared the soil out of me. Any time it'd start raining, I'd start henny-pennying and crying, and just plain freaking out. (Privately, or course. Don't want to frighten the zoo visitors.) My sweet local coworkers took all that horrifying flooding in stride. But then one day, there was a threat of possible tornadoes in the area. All my coworkers were ghastly pale, yet I was perfectly comfortable. So that tornado that hit Louisiana here in this video probably scared 'em real bad. Since '17 I've been back in Alabama where it's safe, with just tornadoes and limestone sinkholes about every square foot. I held my ground and did my job at that zoo until I finally fled, having given proper notice. My coping skills must be tardy, because once I got home, I had nightmares for a month about those floods. Today, I don't "fk w/no water." Turn around, don't drown. So if you can, edit in and name the town in LA that tornado hit. They're a local-oriented and very loving people. :)

Watching this from The Netherlands, it's been a life long dream to see a tornado in real life like you have in the USA. Your video's are always so well put together, and your voice is really easy to listen to. Your camera work is incredible as well. I also love your taste of music on your appreciation for all kinds of wildlife, we actually have a lot in common! 😅 I really appreciate the work you out into making these video's for our entertainment. Been a subscriber for a long time now and never missed a single video. Again, thank you for your hard work and keep doing what you have been doing for all of these years. I hope there are many more video's to come! Much love, Robin van Walsem 🇳🇱

Not only does every video you make feature mind-boggling shots of storms and other weather phenomena, but it transitions beautifully between every part. (HOPE YOU READ THIS) SIR I'm from 🇮🇩 currently there's very big debate among citizens country because JUST 4 day ago one scientist of Indonesian National Research Institute (BRIN) , Mrs Erma Yulihastin announce that One event that take place in Rancaekek Bandung (21 February 2024), are considered As FIRST EVER TORNADO in Indonesia. She said that The size of vortices and large scale destruction are fulfill the threshold of at least EF 0-1 scale. But Indonesian Meterologial Agency (BRIN) said that the event is only.. not more than Tornadic like event (Locally called puting beliung). This is make the citizens and netizens outraged in debate without proper Scientific word.. WDYT SIR???? I Really appreciate if you make the videos about this... Thx u sir ❤❤
