Looks easy, now I need to check my scraper bar, I think there's none there. It's the way my buddy sold it to me, he does it for a living, great machine but needs to paddles, I'm ready to replace belt but its the paddles, the good thing, I have 3 belts a total, so replace paddles with scraper, then I'm great, its a 5 HP 2 Stroke, Toro 38435 with beginning of 890000 to 8999999 auger belt 55-9300 GTS3000E Toro now. Its made it threw Blizzard's and a 10 car driveway, also helped out neighbors, won't anymore, they don't help me at all. Even when they bought a big blower, but DON'T know how to take care of small engines now. He had someone fix his and they REBUILT the carb on it, it was back firing and sounded like it blewup. Its just 3 years old. I cleaned his driveway for 5 year's and never a thanks. I always state neighbors should help neighbors out period, plus its a dead end street. Others have helped out. But not always.

Heat is about the only thing that will loosen rusted or seized parts. You will most likely need at least Mapp gas, but propane might do it.

Trick. Use an impact driver to get the nut started around the paddles and then finish with a wrench if you can.

Good video--I see some wite threads on my paddles...guess its time...but bigger issue is a screeching sound as I try to plow. I have to back up and try again...but it does not pick up much and only screeches. Any idea?
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 6 жыл бұрын
White threads should always be visible it more about how much gap between the housing and the impeller blades there are. Anyway, a screeching should be first checked out under the belt cover on the left side of the machine(standing behind). Take off the belt and make sure the paddles spin freely.

@Sixtyfiveford I had a couple of quick questions. 1. Any idea how long the toro snow blower paddles might last if used 15-20 times per winter in the Midwest with a two-car (wide) x four-car deep (average size) driveway? If it matters, I was looking at the new 721 qze model. 2. Also, do you think the honda single-stage paddles last longer or are much better units? Again, if it matters, I was looking at the newly redesigned honda hs720as single-stage. I was talking to a local dealer and he said the toro paddles typically last 4-5 years, but the honda paddles will last up to 10 years in the same conditions. The dealer sells and services both models and actually the toro was a bit more expensive so I have no reason to believe he would lie, but I thought you might have more experience and a few opinions here.

Researcher The paddles are made of the exact same material and have the same lifespan. I would say the average life of a set of paddles for you with either machine would be about 5 years but depend on a ton of factors. The more dry pavement they hit the faster they wear. Now if you go to long and wear the paddles beyond their life with the Toro nothing will happen to damage the machine and only the throwing distance will suffer. If you go to long with the Honda you will ruin the auger causing $100's of damage.Toro has larger aftermarket support and you can buy paddles that last 4x longer than the standard paddles (Pink Paddles). If I bought one or myself today it would definitely be the Toro.Here's why:1.Honda has a GC series home owner rated engine Toro has a commercial rated motor2.The Toro will move more snow 3.Toro has more power (212cc vs 190cc)4.Toro will throw snow further5.The paddles on the Toro are easier to change (15-20min by the average Joe)Honda does have over Toro:1. Distance control mounted on handle bars(but those cable systems are know to freeze up and fail after years) 2.Higher mounted electric starter plug for easier reach.So why is the Honda cheaper? Engine Engine Engine. Toro is using a cast iron sleeved commercial rated engine that should get about 3000hrs of run time. Where Honda is using a aluminum bore GC series engine is rated at 500-1000hrs life.

+sixtyfiveford interesting comments. Your the first person that I've come across that doesn't seem overly impressed by the Honda vs the Toro and you make good points about the polyurethane pink paddles. I did have snapper that had similar paddles, but the ride was very rough since they don't have much give to them. When I was at the dealer I did notice the honda paddles seemed considerably thicker (~40%).. I assumed this extra rubber, in addition to what the dealer said about the honda not self-propelling as much as the toro, would translate into longer life / less wear, but apparently this is not the case.. Any chance you would be willing to do a review of the newly redesigned honda hs720aa or hs720as series that was just released (and for the first time has actual chute controls near the operator)? Maybe even a comparison to the new toro 721 qze (with quick shoot)?

There is a lot of factors and there is no hard evidence to say they last twice as long. If the cement is dry and you get powdery snow there is no lubrication between the paddle and cement and more wear will occur. If you constantly have icing conditions with wet snow that sticks to the cement there is tons of lubrication and the paddles won't wear at all. Toro themselves also offer the thicker rubber paddles on their commercial unit (721 R-C 38751). But they fit any of the Power Curve models. They are as thick as the Honda ones. I get 15-20yr old snowblowers all the time that have never seen new paddles. They need them but people just don't replace them and they still work fine, just not as good as they could. The chute controls on the handle bars are all nice but they will give you troubles in 5+ year without maintenance. Honda has a blind following and salespeople know this as it guarantees a sale. When I buy a broken unit and fix/sale it Honda's are like a drug to people. They ask no questions and buy solely on brand and I take advantage of this. Honda definitely realizes this and is cheapening their fleet to make more money. The engine Honda is using in their current models is cheap, but they also know the average consumer considers a piece of equipment beyond its usable life after 7-10 years. Consumers typically won't fault the manufacturer after this so that is all they need to run. Honda will do this. In a side by side use and comparison the Toro will move more snow faster. So it would win in performance. Honda would win in user controls by having the rarely used chute distance control mounted on the handles. The basic technology on both brands is not new and has been around for 30 years. It's proven and works so they keep it.

sixtyfiveford I get asked every season what my favorite snow blower is and I've been looking since we've talked. I looked at every one on the market and if I bought a single stage today it would be hands down the Simplicity 1222E. It hasn't even been released yet but I've never had a Simplicity product that wasn't leaps and bounds better than box store stuff. Why is it the best? Briggs and Stratton motor, molded rubber paddles, Steel serrated auger, Headlight, and electric chute rotation. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m5ihjalnzNaXh4E.html

Any idea why sometimes the snow shoots out behind underneath, I lowered my paddles and scraper is sold. Maybe I lowered paddles too much and machine is bouncing
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 4 жыл бұрын
When the scraper bar gets worn too far it will shoot snow underneath. The scraper bar can also get bent upwards after years of use and sometimes it can just be bent back down. If it is bouncing you just need to pull the sides out further. The easiest way to tell is by looking at the gap between the rubber and back of the housing. Ideally you want the rubber to just skim the housing the full length as you rotate it or at least have the same gap.

+sixtyfiveford I think simplicity was probably great back when they were independent / before they were acquired, but having had a single-stage simplicity for the past two years I can honestly say I regret the purchase. With the exception of the steel blades, and the electric rotation it was identical to the version you mention. Unfortunately, the unit had so many issues with the chute control lever that the service center couldn't fix (even after multiple attempts) that they eventually gave me my money back.. At the end the chute did not rotate at all (not even with brute force). This is of course also why I'm looking at the newly designed toro and honda units.
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 10 жыл бұрын
Researcher The chute rotation is my issue with the Honda and Toro models. Both have models with manual reach around chute direction change and they'll be fine, but the other gimmicky ones you asked about will have issues. Simplicity has lowered they're cost to compete with the throw away machines everyone expects. I own several Simplicity machines, single and dual and they're great. They used to cost double-triple and were built like tanks. They are built cheaper but are on par with Toro and Honda. Honda used to make amazing stuff and you can still find an 1980's Honda and it'll work great, but they as well dropped their quality within the last 10yrs to suit the throw away mentality. Toro is still the only one that commercial people trust and for great reason. The simplicity is a homeowner model and beside the electric chute rotation that has yet to be proven or disproven has the best features.
@Researcher_YouTube
@Researcher_YouTube 10 жыл бұрын
+sixtyfiveford I agree most things are made to be disposable. Also, I think the electric chute rotation might be semi-proven since they use it on their two stage units. However, I read some bad reviews on the two-stage units so I wouldn't be surprised if the electric chute is not reliable... I especially wouldn't trust it long term. I did go in and test the honda chute rotation levers for both vertical angle and rotation changes. Both handles seem to be built very robust, but also very difficult to move and not as ergonomic as the toro. For example, the rotation handle is near the engine and seems to be solid steel, but is very difficult to change direction. Have you had a chance to get your hands on one of the new honda units?

I have played with the Honda's and I'm not impressed. If I was going to sell one brand though it would be Honda because no matter what you say about them people blindly buy them. They always sell for top dollar and every single person comments that "It's a Honda so it must be good"; consumers will blindly love that brand for some time to come. They are not what they were 10-15 years ago in the mower and snow blower field. I deal more with longevity and if they can hold up to commercial punishment I know their good. I would give the Honda a lifespan of 10 years for the typical heavy use consumer because of their aluminum bore GC series engine and over complicated chute control. I really dislike Honda's GC series engines, they're GX series is great though and would make their machine way better. On a side note Honda makes the best generators of anyone(all have gx series engines). I would give the Toro a lifespan of 20 years for the typical heavy use consumer because of their Cast Iron bore slant cylinder engine. Simplicity though being bought out is owned by Briggs who is great in their realm. Their top single stage model has GOBS of power and will be night and day difference when blowing heavy snow compared to the Honda. Everything other than the unproven Chute I would give Simplicity a 20 year lifespan as well. They are the underdogs and have to prove themselves to get Honda likes to use cables for everything and that is the number one thing I replace on mowers and snowblowers for them. Their GC series engines are the next thing that require complete replacement. Toro's rarely need anything other than a carb cleaning from neglect. Though they used some more expensive Suzuki engines in the past where carb parts are pricey. Simplicity is the same generally only coming in for carb cleanings but generally used either Briggs or Tecumseh engines that carb parts are cheap and plentiful. All of these brands/models are mechanically clones of each other(including MTD). All have an engine running a belt that runs a impeller.. These basic principles have been around since the 80's with no change other than different plastic coverings to make them look different. I'm surprised that they keep messing with chute rotation; trying to over complicate it. I guess the mechanical engineers are trying to prove themselves. Honda's last good single stage machines were their 521 and 621 models. In todays dollars they would be $1200 msrp.
