Glad you have that perspective. I agree - I'd rather see a review from a REAL owner, with actual seat time - than someone who just does reviews and has very little experience with the equipment.

But not sure if I'd buy one again even after toro saying I should upgrade my mower cause they think it not enough mower for my 3 acres even though it's recommended for up to 4 acres but offered no help on getting a upgrade after only a year

I have Toro 75740 42" Time Cutter mower. I have also had it for three years. The mower is unbelievable. Every time I mow I have to look at what a great job it did. I am satisfied with my Toro and the job it does. Last summer I spent with my son in southern Indiana. I took my mower with me to help him mow his lawn and his sisters lawn next door to him. I mowed both of their yards a total of 5 acres with no trouble at all. The mower is rated at two acres. My next mower will be a Toro brand. I like your video and your yard.

I have ordered a 50” Timecutter. It should be arriving at my dealer soon. I have around 2 acres that I have been mowing with an older John Deere 42” 110 series. The John Deere is getting a little tired, and I’m hoping the Timecutter, will do just that, cut my time. I was on the fence about the Myride system, and opted not to go with it. It’s good to see that after 3 years you are still happy with your Timecutter. This will be my first zero turn, and my first time driving one. Great videos, I used them as part of my research, and I learned a lot from them.

@@paulie0706 I have the 42" Timecutter and use it often in my business. Coming up on 2 years of ownership. Deck size is good for medium sized properties, if you're going to be doing a couple acres I'd go with a bigger deck. 42" is nice for residential properties that might have more tight spaces. I have the stamped deck and this mower cuts and stripes fantastically, I'm impressed for a residential grade mower.

I love the MyRide system! I use my Toro 48" Timecutter 5000 to help mow 45 acres at my antique tractor club in Penfield Illinois. I mow close to the buildings and the other 9 guys with larger mowers mow the large open acreage every Friday at 7:30am. Takes us 4 hours. Then I come home and mow three 1/4 acre yards with it. Things I make sure of before I mow...sharp or new blades, tires inflated to 16psi front and 22 psi rear. The front tires are hard to put air in so I am switching to solid rubber tires when the mower goes in for post season maintenance. Slime in all the tires has helped maintain the PSI at the same level each week. One thing I wish it would do, fold up the mower deck so I don't have to lay on the floor to change blades. I have the Toro Jack that attaches to the front, but it just doesn't go high enough!
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife Жыл бұрын
Wow -45 acres! That's a big yard to mow!! :) You're right about those front tires - they are difficult to air up. How many hours do you have on your machine now? Seems like it gets a nice workout every week.

Great review! You mentioned considering going up to the Toro Titan Max Myride, but didn’t know if you needed that much mower. There is another option - the Titan MyRide (not the Max). It takes a little bit to get used to driving one after driving a normal tractor style, but once you've got it, you've got it. If you're cutting lines, you have to be careful spinning the mower around or the back tire will dig a bare spot. Just take it nice and slow during the turn and then it's back to full throttle across the yard!

Keep in mind Zero turns have 1/2 the towing capacity a riding mower does and are horrible to back up with a trailer, they are also heavier so they sink in more on saturated lawns.. Also Zero turns have two transmissions and many of them are non serviceable possibly making the cost of repair more than what the mower is worth, unless you purchase a commercial grade zero turn their transmissions are serviceable by the owner. However they cut grass better than any Riding mower, just a few things to think about from a small engine repair guy. Way your options out, I know at our shop customers want zero turns but sometimes a riding mower is the better option for your use. If you do allot of gardening and light weight hauling a riding mower is better for you. If you are only cutting grass a zero Turn is the way to go and Toro makes great mowers we rarely see them in the shop, if we do it's usually because the owner has us do the yearly maintenance.

Had mine for a little while now. I got the 50”. It’s a pretty good mower. Cons I got are single gas tank, and the deck doesn’t lift up very high. Probably doesn’t matter for most people, but loading it on a trailer for me is a pain. Also back tires are a little tiny for rough yards. Lot of power tho, also, the deck is great for thick wet long grass. The deck under the chute is cut away, so the blade is exposed if the plastic guard is up. Kinda spooky, but man does that thing fly out grass like no other mower I ever used. And I’ve used a lot of commercial mowers.

Always mow your grass as tall as you can. The tall grass makes it harder for weed seeds to get to the dirt, and it chokes out the weeds. Tall grass also keeps the dirt more moist at the base of the grass as it shades the dirt from the sun. Its also better to cut smaller amounts off the grass more often than letting it grow alot and then cutting it. It can shock your grass when you cut it less often...

I don’t think you needed to mow. Guys, the taller your grass is, the deeper the roots can go. That’s just basic for grass and all plants. Zero turns are finish mowers not bush hogs so you can’t let your grass get 2-3’ tall. Not even 8-10”. But I think grass ie cool season grasses or pasture grasses like Orchard grass, clover I would keep it at 3” . Your grass would be much nicer if you let it get higher and and .. have it tested through your local extension agency. It runs $9-12 per sample you send in. You get the kit from extension service at your county office. Call first to make sure they have the kits. Your state agricultural college does the tests. They analyze the soil and determine the NPK and what’s most important is the right pH ie calcium and magnesium it needs ie regular lime or dolomite lime which has calcium and magnesium. Proper liming not too much, not too little - makes a huge difference in lawn quality and can save a lot of money on fertilizer and seed. Also seeding some clover in will help too as it makes its own nitrogen. You can read all about that ie clover benefits. Might suggest planting some daylilies around Al the trees. They will crowd out weeds and you don’t have to get so close as to damage the trees hitting it with the deck and eventually killing them. The daylilies add a lush colorful look too. I recommend Oaks Daylilies for the best on the market for online ordering and have been around for 60-70 years and have the biggest clumps offered. You have to order like now for fall planting. Hyperion is one of my old time favorites, far carrying lemon scented, tall and a light yellow yellow. I don’t have a zero turn but are those front dolly wheels

I have the same mower mine pulls when mowing a slight hill sideways is this normal always pulling on the lap bar to keep straight
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife Жыл бұрын
That is normal on a slight grade. One side will need more forward momentum to keep the zero turn going straight on the grade (it wants to naturally go downhill on the easy side). But if it’s doing this on a flat surface, There is a way to adjust this. The lap bars sometimes need to be adjusted so that both drive wheels move at the same speed when you have both lap bars fully pressed forward.

@@PurpleCollarLife Thanks for your quick response, went through a few of your other videos, and I have been putting shell gas, but it seems I shouldn't be using 15% ethanol but rather 10% or none at all. You mentioned you wouldn't be using gas with no ethanol but that is too expensive at almost $30/gallon, so I was just wondering what gas you were using. I'm in the Maryland area but I doubt the ethanol free gas is all that much different where you stay. Again, thanks for your responses and time, they are very helpful and as a first time riding mower enthusiast I'm still learning the ropes.

@@bitoflearning1287 No problem! I'm glad our videos are helpful. We run 0% ethanol in our mowers. Around here (western PA), it's available at some gas stations. We pay about $1.00 per gallon for it more than the going price for regular unleaded. For example, 87 octane regular gas is currently about $3.65 per gallon here, and has up to 10% ethanol. We buy the ethanol-free gasoline for about $4.50 per gallon right now. If it cost us $30.00 per gallon - I don't think we'd be able to afford to mow! :)

You could probably build (or buy) a rack that hangs off the back for bringing tools around the yard.
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife 8 ай бұрын
Bigtoolrack actually makes a nice rack - but it goes on zero turn mowers that have the ROPS system. Our zero turn doesn't have any supports anywhere behind the seat to attach it to. But I probably could rig something up that mounts to the protective metal around the engine. Good idea!

@PurpleCollarLife

That's a great question. Sounds like maybe a short somewhere (key switch?). Maybe the battery isn't charging when you're running it? I'd be curious if you put a meter on the battery while the engine is running if it shows that it's charging.

I will say that our TIMECUTTER uses WAY more gas than I was used to prior to this zero turn. But I also never used a zero turn before. It mows MUCH faster than previous tractors I've used. I mention in the video about mowing 5 acres that I uses quite a bit of gasoline. I think that must be normal for these machines. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n5-PmNiL3bmseWg.html

Thanks for watching. In your instruction manual, it should tell you the belt part number for replacement. I think it may also be on a sticker on the deck. I wouldn't want to give you the part number for mine and it not work on yours. I'm not sure if that belt stayed the same for all Toro Timecutter 60" fabricated deck years.

Is that a good idea to wash your tractor after every cut?
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife 10 ай бұрын
Great question. I know some people who wash the machine after every use - and it still looks new for decades. I don't do that. I just don't have the time. But at the same time, when I do give it a good bath, it still looks like new without all the dirt and grass on it.

Like I mentioned on the other video comment - that hasn’t been our experience with our Timecutter. Did you get that drive pulley replaced under warranty? Do you have a different fuel gage than I showed on our videos? ours is the cutout window with visibility into the fuel tank. Ours still works great in our 5th summer.

I installed some mad aggressive tires that are more for atv in muddy terrain on my toro. Great for doing steep hills and not getting stuck or bad conditions and getting out of mud. But, you will murder grass everytime on short axis turns far more than stock tires. Must drive cautiously haha luckily the properties I mow just need grass knocked down not look pretty. Also the tires will make your overall height of the deck higher so you cant cut as low. But, it also makes it faster by a little having more circumference on the tire per revolution. I like the tradeoff but not recommended for folks that need real clean cuts since the gouging can really tear things up.
@PurpleCollarLife

I've actually priced some different rear tires - to do better in the wet spots. But I do worry about digging things up more.
@iPervy
@iPervy 3 ай бұрын
@@PurpleCollarLife Hot tip ive found for mowing with aggressive tires especially if you're mowing when wet. Reverse chews up the grass far less. Rainy days i can chew up even doing a gentle 30% to 50% of max angle turn, but revearsing far lowers the damage when getting to the new angle to mow.
