I live in Toronto Canada and we have a law "When you purchase products or services from a salesperson at your door or in your home, you'll have 10 days from receipt of the written agreement to cancel it. This law exists in most provinces, including Ontario, British Columbia, Albert and Quebec."

@@LivingProcess In Pennsylvania there is a 3 day rule but in NJ there is not a law like that at all unfortunately. The dealership has to agree to take the vehicle back.

You also can file a complaint with the state agency that oversees car dealerships. Also, if there was an oral agreement and then it was in writing, then they changed the figures, take them before a judge in small claims court.

I’d report them to the State Attorney Generals office. A dealership was doing something similar in my state. It took a while but they shut them down eventually and was arrested for fraud among other things. Of course his wife and son reopened under a different name within a few months. They got busted too.

Yep, state attorney generals usually have a consumer protection area where you can report them online with evidence. Upload every piece of paper provided and signed between you and the dealership. Also report them to better business bureau.

Not all car sales people are the scum of the Earth. My father sold cars for 40 + years! I sold them for about six years after divorcing my husband, and knowing I could never work in a restaurant where people were drinking alcohol again! I worked with 10 men and nine of them weren’t that great some of them I would not associate with at all. The dealership kept threatening to fire me because I was educating my customers, and it slipped out in finance one day. I didn’t care because there was another dealership that had a seat waiting for me because they hurt that I was honest, took care of my customers from the time they walked in the door and forever! So don’t judge every book by the cover those cute guys that are smiling at you girls across the table watch everyone of them if you wanna buy a vehicle and you’re a woman the best thing you can do is educate yourself first before you buy! That is actually with everything that we do in life. If we don’t educate her selves first we are Ignorant to truths.

Here's an option you might not like it how about downsizing your van for a cheaper one that fits all the requirements and trading your van in for a profit and paying a large percentage of the extra onto the loan to get down your payments ? Failing that the same principle but piling all the extra money into your van build ? I'm currently on loan number two and I'm balancing between saving doing what I want to do and bringing the loan down much much faster to cut out a lot of interest over 5 years so subsequently if you pay off the loan in 2 and 1/2 years you will save an absolute crap load of interest. The interest is a killer but if you are dedicated and religious with payments you may be able to work out paying just that little bit extra on your loan and paying it off early. I was in the used car motor trade in the UK for 13 years in the 80s and 90s and you really really have to watch your back with some of those people. Some of them would rip off their own grandmum. Hope things are improving

Car salespeople are soulless, it’s not your fault. I walked out of a dealership when the salesman lied to me about the previous owner (it was a rental, he said it was a family that was “upsizing”). Long story short, it’s not your fault at all, you are not dumb, you are great. Not many people would have the guts to do what you did about it. Also, love the name! That’s also the name for an album of a favorite band of mine (Santana). Cannot wait for the build!!

No, Car sales people are not soulless. I am a car guy. I can assure you that for every bad deal we hear about , there are 20 deals where the customer is ecstatic. Now, I do not know all the details of this consumers deal but it does seem that something went sideways quickly. Trying to remember back to previous video where she purchased the vehicle....she mentioned sales price was a great deal higher than what she thought it to be....For some reason 56K stands out.....yet proceeded with purchase....
@CheeseMasterSports
@CheeseMasterSports 11 ай бұрын
@@just_jake6050You’re correct, poor choice of words on my part. Not all car salespeople are the same, but, in my experiences of buying vehicles, and also assisting in the process, I have probably met just a single car salesperson that wasn’t completely out for blood, and that person still tried to sell my friend a completely unnecessary extended warranty. I get it, people gotta make a living, and commission is how that’s done, but there does tend to be a large disparity between the price you see online/various other methods, and what it actually is whenever you get to the dealership, that’s 110% true. It’s all about getting you in the door. In the early 00s, my dad saw an ad in the paper for a truck, and thought it was a great price, and went to the dealer to buy it, only to discover it was marked up $2k more. His response? The next day he came back with the physical newspaper ad. They sold him the truck at that price. Sorry, but you can’t tell me that the markups aren’t nonsense. I do appreciate you sharing your opposing opinion, though.

Good job on waiting on the next year to buy your warranty. I never buy extended warranties until close to the end of the manufacturer warranty. Also, remember you can buy a manufacturer's warranty by ANY dealership. What I always do is search on the forums of other owners who drive the same make/model and you can find posts of people talking about where they got their best deal. There are some dealerships that offer great deals on warranties and prefer to sell in volume rather than make a killing on each warranty. Also remember to be sure you are buying the EXACT warranty covered by Dodge or whomever is the manufacturer. You don't ever have to buy an extended warranty from the dealership you purchased your vehicle. Most of them charge a ridiculous amount. I have purchased extended warranties several times now and each dealership was in another state. It's a very easy process. At this point, what's done is done regarding your deal, so just enjoy your new van and I wish you many safe and happy miles.

My friend ran his business for forty years. He thought he had everything nailed down when he hired an accountant to help him sell his life’s work. He laid out what he wanted to do and the accountant set up everything. After it was a done deal he told the accountant ok now what about paying taxes and the accountant actually said to him, “ you’re screwed.” It took him several years and a change in the federal tax code to get out of the mess he was in. Then he had to pay interest on the late payment of the taxes he had withheld while he got it fixed. Always get another person to look over your shoulder and make sure you don’t miss something. We all want to be adults and independent but everyone misses something sometimes. I’m 76 and my wife and daughter have saved my ass muchas veces. Good luck with your buildout.

I'm so glad you called them and got some money back! That's a shame, but as you said, it's only 2,000 at least now. This video reminded me of my Chevy Express van search at the beginning of the year. It was not fun, but I love my van and feel I got a fair price.

Life is one continuous lesson and as you get older your wisdom and knowledge increases dramatically which is why as children we were told to respect our elders, in other words listen to what they have to say. Great story thanks for sharing!

Man that’s annoying. But ya extended warranty’s are a straight scam. When you go to use them after your vehicle warranty is up, they will do everything in their power to not pay out.

Been there. 40 years ago I bought a used car at a huge dealership. I paid $1,500 and they said the car was in perfect shape. The state had a 3 day lemon law, but my problems started about a week after I bought it. Air conditioner failed. Head gasket was failing. They pressure washed the engine to hide the leaks. Transmission started grinding loudly. They put something in it that another mechanic told me is done to keep it running for another month before it fails completely. The car was total crap and the dealer knew it. I went there to discuss it and they said tough luck. No refund, no help with the repairs...nadda zip nuttin. So, I waited a few weeks and barely got the car to their lot...on a Saturday morning. I waited until potential customers were there and lit the car on fire. I made sure there was almost no gas in the tank and when I arrived, I poured some bottled water into the tank as well. She burned up beautifully. The fire department showed up and so did a reporter from a local tv station. My uncle was an attorney and said it was totally legal to light a car on fire as long as it didn't do any damage to other property or any person. He even said he would defend me if needed. The fire chief and a nice police officer asked me what happened. I told them my story and said I felt like I should return the car to where it came from and that I should put it out of its misery. I was 16 years old and the cop just laughed his ass off. The fire chief thanked me for removing and diluting the remaining fuel. The news reporter asked me what happened so I shared my story and made sure to mention the dealer's name and asked him to make sure he had it. The reporter asked if I would go on camera and I said absolutely. They recorded my comments and it was shown on the 6:00 news!!! The dealer threatend to sue me, but my uncle helped them understand the error of their ways. They then sent him my refund of $1,500. My parents were a little upset, but then decided it was a classic move. I'm not sure I did the right thing, but I worked hard for that $1,500 and I was not going to let them get away with it.

Don't feel too bad. You took a chance. Most people live in fear of what might happen and never take that chance. In this case, it was a negative experience, but it's not the worst. You are out some money but you mitigated the worst of it. You learned an extremely valuable life lesson, and won't make that same mistake again.

What they did was they took your excitement about getting a new vehicle and sliding a fast one on you thinking that you'll just sign really quick and go with the deal to get that van. I'm dealing with a similar issue where I had a visit about 10 dealerships across five different states to find my cargo van and I had a whole bunch of IOUs and writing to be done and I'm still having an issue that they do not fix that I spent 5 hours waiting in the dealership for with a door sensor. They try to band-aid it with gell instead of actually fixing or replacing it

Fine print cannot express this enough read the fine print. When you buy a car the following terms you must scrutinize. 1. Total price 2. Loan term 3. Interest rate 4. Warranties or add one 5. Payment amount 6. Where your down payment is being allocated

im with you on this, vehicle i test drove a few times i signed on dotted line should of taken a picture of vin. Ford dealership gave me 3rd party warranrty who did squat on repairs. I paid $36,000 for 2012 f150, everytime i take my vehicle in for oil change & drive it out of their lot something else goes wrong. Whenever you bring your vehicle in take pictures of the body & wheels as you may have dents or scratches when you pick up your vehicle. Good luck with the build!!!

I ordered a new truck and it's production was delayed (for whatever reason) and when it arrived it was the next years model. Although identical to the year I ordered I was still charged an additional 2k for the newer year model. After contacting a lawyer I was told I couldn't fight the deceptive practice because it would cost more to do that then just pay the sleazy dealer.

You have to look over the paperwork real good now. You better look and see what other coverages he put on there. All those add-on can be canceled. ALWAYS have them print a copy of what you’re signing before you sign. The biggest scam going now is they have you sign on a iPad then print it all out. Get a hard copy of the big long sales agreement before you sign. Also he probably put GAP insurance on which can be added on your auto insurance in most cases for a fraction of what the dealer charges. Check with your insurance company and if they offer it Vance the dealer gap insurance and get a refund. Always take someone with you to help look everything over. The same thing just happened with a friend of mine, try put warranty, maintenance package and Gap, all mode $10k extra. Look again and see what else they charged you and go back and cancel it.

You need a man like me who would give them options in person! I would inform them of my steps to a better resolution to file a complaint with the State Attorney General, and or file a lawsuit about your agreed upon revision of purchase which they did not honor. I would inform the sales person that their deceitful action will be sent to the State license discipinary department for suspension or revoktion of their license. Heads would ROLL!!

It happens to everyone. Sorry it happened to you. For most people a vehicle purchase is their second most expensive purchase and as far as I know there is no oversight on car dealers. As a REALTOR, there are so many laws that govern our profession and possible repercussions holding us accountable, that in 15 years, I have not known of anyone being "ripped off" purchasing real estate. But everyone I know has a car buying horror story. Good Luck to you.

Don't blame yourself. Many have fallen for the slick car salesman, that's what they do. More slippery than a greased pig in my opinion. They are at the advantage because they know they have something you want and the adrenaline is flowing through you and they take advantage of that. Still you seem to have had a hard lesson on buying something from a salesman that will have hopefully been seared into your memory. We all have to live and learn and that is all part of life and having our eyes opened to the real world. Take my word for it, at 63 I have been focked over many times and sometimes over the same thing several times. Hay ho. Like and sub

You are not dumb. At all. I worked at a car dealership in the service side, and even then I couldn't handle it for a year. I left a week shy of making it a year. The sales side is so sketchy and they flat out lie to people all the time. Seeing how much they took advantage of women was something I couldn't deal with. When I know someone is going to buy I used car I ask them if I can tag along so I can look over the safety paperwork. They won't even show you the safety inspection unless you request it and even then they try to distract you. It's horrible! You did nothing wrong.

This purchase gives you your life on the road choice so enjoy your journey, you wiser. We all learn by such experiences so sadly this was a hard 5K lesson but nonetheless you are moving on and we are privileged to come along on your journey.
