Im from Japan. Tosa was my dream dog when I was a little girl. I used to sit infront of my neighbor's yard who was breeding Tosa on my way home from school, watching them. When I asked my parents to get Tosa, they said " he'll no!!" and get me Yokie instead lol. Now I made my " big dog dream" come through with my Cane Corso. Lots of work, but I'm enjoying it everyday doing things with my boy!

I’ve only seen one in my dog career… a guy brought one into our shop for a bath…( self serve) this was probably like 20-25 years ago? It was a beautiful dog and very interesting! The owner was a very sound minded young man, no ego trip, just a love of the breed… the dog was very well behaved and obedient, obviously not a fighting dog, and it really impressed me… beautiful dog and super owner!

25 years ago I was a member of the Tosa Ken society and followed closely several breeding programs out of California. Tosa’s there were mainly bred as silent guard dogs for security company use. Those programs all seemed to fizzle out as more and more communities banned the breed due both to lack of understanding and irresponsible ownership. The Tosa in its purest is a regal strong quiet confident alert responsive and loyal breed.

A Tosa Inu lived in our apartment building. He was extremely sweet with myself, but of course, when I wasn't with my Labrabull. As far as their power, it's up to the individual on what's thought of their power ranking. I can tell you this. The boys can exceed 130lb plus with a bite force almost twice that of a rottie. They have mastiff in them which are powerful.

Even when I was a kid in Japan ( more than few decades ago ), many Japanese dogs are bred in specific regions. Tosa was mostly bread in island of " Shikoku" which was where fighting tradition have carried on and didn't spread to other regions in Japan much. So I can imagine there weren't a large breeding pocket. It could have been many inbreeding or line breeding has taking place...

Toss inu definitely belongs in top 10. It will wreck anything outside a 50 pound APBT

We have a tuso inu he is a gentle giant loves every one. definitely not a breed for 1st time dog owners of the large breed but our prince is 189 at 2 yrs old gentleman but is Def not easy to handle around other animals he doesn't know

They resemble my black mouth cur that I rescued a few years ago. I rescued most of my life, and I'm almost 80. I hear what you're saying. I agree with you totally. They ruin a lot of the breeds because man tries to make them into what man wants, not what the breed is supposed to be and represent. Being in rescue all my life, I have grown much closer to critters and not closer to humans, sorry to say...

The Tosa Inu is Banned in the UK , it's one of the 4 breeds on their dangerous dogs list , a list that many don't agree with as most dog attacks are due to bad owners and can be some breeding but it's the owner not the dog , too many people buy dogs of all breeds without fully researching or fully understanding the amount of training that is required. As the owner of a working line DDR GSD I see so many bad owners , allowing their dog off lead yet it has no recall , allowing the dog to pull them on lead allowing their dog to barks snap growl and be aggressive around other dogs , usually owners of small dogs I may add. My GSD just looks at them as if to ask what their deal is lol , but in all seriousness it can be a nightmare , unless we are in a huge open space where I can see anyone else approaching he stays on lead , his recall is great , he comes to a halt when told he is over 40kg I am just 47kg and he walks on the lead beautifully if he didn't I wouldn't have any hope of staying on my feet , when walking him my attention is on him all the time and I am always aware of what's going on around us. What really annoys me is people with small dogs who have no recall they are off lead and come bothering my on lead dog and are often aggressive , yet if my dog defended himself their dog would be history , but we all know it wouldn't be the little dogs fault it would be the " huge GSD who killed my foofoo dog " if you can't recall your dog DONT LET IT OFF LEAD get a 30 ft lead if you want it to run about but keep control of it ffs.

I've only ever seen two of these in my life (and I am old in YT terms 😂) I have never met anyone who has even seen one fight. In other words, this dog has a reputation that cannot be confirmed in any way. So when people breed with dogs that don't fight, and come from lines that haven't fought, how do you know this dog is any good at what it was originally bred for?

They're in 🇯🇵. Chances are pretty good, you won't see or get one. As you know breeders will cubbie hold they're best stock. Especially if they're working.

Heavyweight tosa is def one of the strongest. This is prob the best sumo style fighting breed. With APBT being the best to the death fighting dog. This dog has great balance and is more of a sport fighting dog. Apbt is more of the pinnacle of real fighting and pinnacle to the death fighting. The best Tosas like Tano got their butt handed to them by apbts… tito killed him after he was known as a “pit bull killer”…. because over there it is a bunch of wannabes who do not condition or breed hard dogs well…. there is no comparison. They WILL catch the face of tosa or alabai or any breed and wear them out. They also keep the best pace under pain and pressure. The apbt is the best dog for it and thus why Tosa people add apbt to them. The matches in china and japan and korea are some of the slowest bs cur fests I or anyone in gamedogs have ever seen lol You all will never go back into europe or american competition lol It is sad to be honest. So just stop the bs. Also apbt can get 90 lbs on a chain lol or even bigger 75 plus in match weight. They are not that small.
