Air suspensions can gradually become inefficient and fail. In the case of Arnott-Wabco air compressors it is often due to wear of the piston ring. This gradual wear leads to inefficient compressor operation with symptoms including excessive noise, a reduced rate of rise or even failure to rise.
In the past replacement parts were not available leaving car owners with the rather expensive solution of replacing the whole compressor. Fortunately there is now a cheap solution in the form of Bagpiping Andy's original piston ring repair kit that solves the problem and costs a fraction of a brand new compressor. Just found this video, your website is added to my bookmarks for future reference. I always thought it was petty and frankly stupid that you could only buy a new or reconditioned pump, as they refused to sell just the piston seal, so well done. I am quite sure you'll be hearing from me in due course when my 14 year old compresser gives up the ghost.....oh yes and Ed from wheeler dealers would appreciate a call re this kit too I'd imagine.

Hi Andy, mine has no problem and its quiet in a good nic for a 2006 and obeys with no faults, but its coming up to 120K Will you advice to change it or only change it when you start having any symptoms? Thanks PS Amazing instructions

+tommymoto41 Hi Tommy. Andy has been in touch and given this answer to your question. The piston ring kit will renew the air pressure, the air drier removes moisture but doesn't add to the compressor air pressure output, I can offer new drier beads if your beads are saturated but its not that common. Just done it as per the instructions and it was pretty straightforward. The old ring was pitted and looked as if it wasn’t really making contact with the bore. Anyway I’ll fit it back into the car and fingers crossed. Why do Land Rover make everything so complicated ????

Hello, I am French and I use an automatic translator so sorry if there are any errors .. I replaced my 4 air cushions (e53 4.8is) but the front suspension remains very very hard! I cannot compressed them by hand, I have 12.5bars in the pressure accumulator. you know why? I have only one fault that sometimes happens: accumulator pressure remains constant, filling has been requested. Compressor ok, trim sensor ok Thank you

I have a 2006 RR (not supercharged)...after a few hours, the vehicle is nearly resting on all the wheels. What is the most common issue I should be checking? I just had the sensor changed out a week ago but didnt change this issue. Thanks

When you replace the compressor will it do away with the air suspension fault?

72Disco1998 Yes it should do. Normally the problem is wear on the original piston ring so replacing it and refitting the compressor should sort out the problem. However make sure you inspect the piston and cylinder walls, if there is damage there the problem may persist.

Great vidi ...... shame about the design ..... ie theirs , not yours , is such pants . Stick a compressor in an insulated , closed box & wait for the money to roll in . You ' d think they were trying to make land fill .

Robert Woodliff You would think that the original manufacturers would know that there is a problem and would either change the design or at least provide replacement piston rings. Until Andy Fulton developed this repair kit the only option was to replace the whole compressor, which is a very expensive job. Although the trend has been to throw away and replace I believe we should return to fixing things, it makes much more sense all round.
