Car Repairs - DIY At Home

Жыл бұрын

In this, my first video ever (take it easy on me!) I take on a suspension fault error on my Range Rover L322 2008 3.6 TDV8.
Confronted with the dashboard warnings ‘’Vehicle Lifting Slowly’’ and ‘’Suspension Fault Normal Height Only’’ I proceed to try and identify the cause with some quick roadside diagnostics using the GAP IID Bluetooth diagnostic tool before digging deeper to identify the prime suspects and causes of my suspension woes and of course trying to repair them.
For full disclosure I am not a mechanic just cursed with an enquiring mind and desire to fix my own cars wherever possible and save some cash and maybe just maybe helping others with fixing theirs.
A bit of Car Repair DIY at home for me is quite therapeutic.
If you take the time to comment I will take the time to answer as I’m nice like that and if you have any experiences to add feel free to pop them into the comments below for all to see.
I aim to get part 2 of this suspension diagnosis and repair uploaded in around 7 days time, where I will further strip down the compressor, service the air dryer and piston, reinstall the compressor before testing the gallery pressure and valves using the GAP tool and of course see if I solved the problem.

Don't know why, but the brummie accent and talking about car problems are a perfect match.

If you're getting regular suspension faults it's likely your Steering angle sensor is on its way out. Sounds strange but it's connected to ABS HDC and suspension.

Thank you for the heads up @George-hs2zm. I'll check it out 👍

I've just replaced mine ( bugger of a job tbh) but it's cleared my abs HDC and suspension,, all lights off. If you take it to the stealership they will add another 3 zeros to the price. It's like they see a guy with a Rangey and the £signs light up in their eyes, you can almost hear the kerching

Hi, i have the 2008 L322 . The suspension constantly goes up and down, Reading suspension fault drive below 50kph. Recently enough i had the compressor and 2 air shocks replaced. It stays up over night so i don't suspect a leak. Do you know of any sensor/sensors i could replace? My mechanic is sick of the sight of me🤦

I would start with the ride height sensors as being the prime suspect. If you had the air shocks replaced it should have been calibrated as well so may be worth checking it was. But I would defo start with the ride hide sensors which may have failed or simply been knocked. Good duck 👍

My 06 TD6 has been giving intermittent 'Normal Height Only' and 'Lifting Slowly' warnings since I bought it. Recently it started to sink on one side when parked for a few hours. Did a bit of investigating and found a pin hole leak in one of the blue pipes going from the compressor to the valve under the rear o/s rear arch. The pipe had been rubbing against the hose clip of the fuel supply line to the fuel burning heater fuel pump. Hoping that pipe will be cheap and easy to source, otherwise I might consider replacing the original compression fittings with standard pneumatic push fittings and off the shelf reel of nylon tube.

@StreetMotionUK nice bit of investigation! Off the shelf pneumatic pipe will do the job no problem and if the section of the pipe with the pinhole is easily accessible you could also consider chopping that small section out and repairing with a pneumatic pipe repair kit. Good luck!

2008 model? How many air bags have you replaced over the years? What brand do you recommend for longevity? TIA

Hi @the1stime , yes it's a 2008 and I’ve only had to replace 2 on this vehicle so far, both front, it was around 4 years go and I replaced with a pair of Dunlop brand, not the cheapest but they are still going strong 👍

Ok how do I get my air suspension switch in or the indicator to work again cause its not allowing me to control it or do anything with it.

@sirkendrick11 It’s difficult to diagnose your issue from your description but I’m guessing your air suspension switch in the centre console is completely inactive and not showing any illuminated lights at all. It could be a number of things but check the fuses first of all but you really need to plug in a diagnostics reader and get some codes to find out what may be wrong. I’m assuming you have no error messages on the dash saying things like ‘’Suspension inactive’’ or ‘’Vehicle raising slowly’’ You could be lucky and its a fuse or you need to do a hard reset as the ECU isn’t happy and this may work but it really could be any number of things and without a diagnostics kit and codes you could be chasing it down forever. Good luck 🤞

So did it work? Was it the compressor?
@car-repairs-diy-at-home

@Schnippen_Schnappen1 The compressor was indeed a large part of the issue but not the whole story, but servicing it helped me then identify the next issue and without having a good compressor I couldn't move on. There are another 3 parts to this series with the final part showing the final result - spoiler - I did fix the suspension fault and saved a decent amount of cash in the process 👍

Are you standing on the car upside down

No, I’m not even sure what you mean but I’m not standing on the car at all either upside down or otherwise, the compressor is in the boot under the spare wheel 🙂
