In this video I completely replace my Cobras suspension with a combination of parts from Koni, Maximum Motorsports, and Eibach. All of this gets done less than 24hr before I have to be at the shop for exhaust work. Can it be done? Yes. Is it a good idea? You will have to watch and see

little tip, don't bother with the spring compressor in the future, just slowly drop the rear axle and control arms then you can use a long prybar to pull it, with the shocks undone theres hardly any tension on the spring

Good vid. Nothing like doing major work like this on a schedule. There's usually a spec for preloading the bushings on the control arms where you measure the center of the hub to the fender. Lowering it blows that out of the water so I usually just jack up the suspension until it starts lifting the car off the jack stand, bounce on it a few times to settle it, then torque the bolts. That sucks you couldn't get those fronts torqued though. I had that problem on my wife's Fusion. The only way I could tighten one of the control arm bolts was with the subframe dropped 1/2", and I could only get a box end in there. So it was the old crank on it as hard as I could, make a "click" sound and call it good.

The front springs are a pain in the vag ! Tried couple different spring compressors non would work... ended up putting jack n 2x4 under control arm where the 2 bolts that hold control arm to k member, leave ball joint connected take the 2 21mm bolts out and lower control arm down with jack. spring won't fly out or nothing crazy.. putting the stock springs back in is difficult but do able dont be scared of spring it's not going to kill you in this case. .. the 2nd time I did this I cut the springs a coil or 2 so much easier to install.

I've done this a few times on sn95s and fox's. I learned after the first time to ditch the spring compressors and just use the jack to let off pressure. Cuts down the extra time dramatically. You can catch a Darwin award still, but you would really have to be an idiot about it.

Which video do you cover the ride height and handling after the suspension install? I'm considering MM road & track springs for my 97 convertible Cobra (have Koni yellows, MM CC plates, Prothane isos too). I'd love to know your thoughts. What was your actual lowering amount with those springs & isos? Thanks for the vids!

I know the car is gone now but I had an exhaust question: I am also using the SR tailpipes but with Flowmasters. If I recall you said you were using SLP mufflers. Did you have any issues getting them to fit together? I wanted to do that setup but I know the SR pipes are intended for the OEM offset type mufflers and I figured since the SLP’s are straight that they wouldn’t line up with the tailpipes. Did you have any fitment issues with the SR pipes in general? I almost wonder if my drivers side pipe was either bent or if they welded the hanger in the wrong spot because when I get it to where it’s not making contact with anything it’s exiting crooked like the tip is about 15 degrees left of center and pointing inward. It’s pretty irritating, lol.
@truckandroll989
@truckandroll989 Жыл бұрын
It is funny you mention that they are meant for an offset. So i was able to make them work with the SLP straight through muffler but I would get rubbing issues against the tire (315 17s) on the road course. I always assumed it was the tire width or just pipes moving side to side. Long story short you can make it work but with 315s and a lowered car you may rub slightly if you drive aggressively.
@richardrawson
@richardrawson Жыл бұрын
@@truckandroll989 were you able to get the SLP’s connected as-is or did you use an angled coupler? I initially thought of using those flexible exhaust couplers but scrapped the idea because I thought it would just get to janky and look cobbled together but if it works I’m down because the flowmasters are a bit too quiet for me, lol.

What are your driving impressions with the MM Road & Track springs? I would be interested in your opinion of these springs for street driving and if you experience any grinding due to a lower ground clearance. It would be great if you could add some side views of the car either in a video here or stills on IG.
@truckandroll989
@truckandroll989 3 жыл бұрын
Yea i can put some additional shots on instagram for reference. So if you want springs for lower ride height im sure there are others which drop you lower. The ride is definitely harsher than stock but some of that is probably amplified by the fact this is a 23yo car with a lot of plastic interior parts from the factory. Its definately not too harsh to daily drive nor do I scrape often. If i could do it all over again and if lead times were not an issue i would probably do coilovers. My understand is that they are the best of both worlds. However given those weren’t available when i bought these i think they work fine and respond well on the track.

@@truckandroll989 Thanks for your impressions, that was what I was hoping to find out. There are not many reviews for the MM springs on the forums. I am still on stock springs and do not have an interest in any spring set that drops more than 1.25" for the rough streets I encounter.
