Because Legend has said multiple times that Attila was his least favorite Total War (next to Empire) and one of the only game from the series he actually hates. I don't know when this series was recorded though, maybe he didn't hate it back then but you can hear the frustration in his voice. Well, more than the usual I mean.

I can't remember in which video Legend gave the most detailed explanation as to why he hates it, maybe it was even during a livestream. But from what I remember, he actually really liked the battles but thought the campaign was badly designed. He thought the AI was too focused on annoying the player rather than actually trying to win (by declaring war on the player for no reason despite sharing no borders, then sending a stack to raze a random city and go back home). He thought the negative effects of buildings sometimes didn't make sense (like for example, building a bath consumes food), in his opinion the cities should have a population like in the older games and then the population should consume food instead of the consumption being linked to random buildings. And then you have his usual problems with the way legendary difficulty is made "difficult". Especially the public order being bad for no reason other than you playing on legendary difficulty. Like it would make more sense if, for example, a city not following your religion gave you -5 PO on normal and -15 on legendary, so it would be harder to manage but you could still sort it out. A constant -8 just means that you'll have to fight rebellions until you get the correct techs or many PO buildings. You also have the AI cheating by paying no upkeep for their armies, the double standards when it comes to retreating.... Attila isn't the only TW game that balances legendary difficulty like this, but when you add that to his other problems with the game it explains why he dislikes it more than the others. Also the Roman Empire is his waifu and he doesn't like seeing it getting bodied.

MrRainbowization Plus the fact that Western Rome is supposed to have the stronger military (since when have Greeks beem better militarily than Romans anyway? :P) and it consistently has the worse one in this game plus that Athars OP bullshit skullfucks HEAVY INFANTRY on the charge. Ahistorical minority appeasing childfriendly bullshit everywhere like this needless pandering to the Eastern rosters. Athar's Fucking chosen ruined the entire Grand Campaign for me because they were wearing plot armor. The logic of the AI and CA to boot has no logic. Tanukhids tho were deliciously well designed. Light light light.

Thanks so much for this, Attila is the first Total War game I've had to consult help for. The victory conditions are understandably weird since these were empires falling when most Total War entries were rising empires which is easier.

What I usually do with river battles is put my melee units in a U shape around the choke point and put my skirmishers on the sides of the U and they fire onto the opposite side of the U this allows them to fire into the enemies back rather than at their front or sides.

great concept to coordinate with your CK2 campaign & good to see someone playing the Age of Charlemagne expansion, in my opinion was better than the Attila stand alone. Keep it up with the new ideas!

Just started a Charlemagne on Legendary, new to Attila. Almost had a really great victory on a battle outside of Beadoux, but I started messing around with the enemy reinforcements that were still marching up to an otherwise lost battle (for them), just playing with them. Next thing I know my army has been wiped clean the fuck out by archer towers...I also just learned that Attila has the strongest and most ridiculous archer towers in the whole series. The 1 surviving enemey reinforcement won because i couldnt get my men on the cap points for archer towers in time or they didnt cap them fast enough before routing. Can't believe I was beat by archer towers.

Yaaay, Legend!!! I like Warhammer because of the new types of stuff we get to see. But honestly the arcadey style of the game sometimes gets to me. To that end I fire up Rome 2 or Attila for a better tactical playthrough, especially on the battlefield. Honestly in Warhammer, once the armies and especially the Legendary Lords get levelled up, they turn into absolute murder hordes. And are frankly unbeatable. It takes Chaos 3 armies to atleast severely bruise and outright kill off units in my H/H campaign. Might just start a Legendary playthrough once the new DLCs drop

if people want a comparison of how long the ck2 one can become Charlagmagne around 760ish and the game in ck2 can go on until 1453 so that is about 700 years. while i don't know how long the total war age of Charlemagne can go on to my best guess is just in time for the viking age but i do not know turn/year ratio here so i can just be stupid.

Seax: old English for knife; modern archaeology for sword or dagger. You have heard it pronounced many times, in the word Saxon cuz unless someone is trying to make something look exotic, sax is just as valid. Say it same way too, since you speak english. And if I was gonna trick ya, I'd say it was pronounced sex band, make ya think twice about poking em lol

Great player and fun game to watch, but am I the only who thinks that this game's UI makes it difficult to see what's going on? Like everything just kinda blends together. New to this game so I understand, but things really lack some pop to the untrained eye. Love the series so far though!

the unit card really turned me off from playing this expansion lol, they could have at least used a still image of the unit models or something, the detail in those models have gotten so good... feels half ass'd and cartoon like with what they got.. the unit cards should look bad ass, its pretty much the only time you see your units, unless you have a cinematic feeling moment in the middle of a battle
