I was pond fishing with my son who is 7. He caught a good two and a half pounder along the bank, so I came running over to help him get it unhooked and weighed and take some photos. He had dropped the bass on the bank in excitement just before I got over to him, and now was covered in dirt, so I pick the fish up by the lip and tell him to grab the scale and we’ll take some photos. As he is doing that, I go to clean the dirt off of the fish in the water, to make for a better photo. I’ve done it a hundred times over before this, and as I drop the bass in to rinse him off, he goes buck wild and I lose him in the drink. We never got an official weight on him, or a picture. My son just looked at me, and said ‘it’s ok Dad’ ‘he was a 2 pounder at least’. I think I felt worse than he did for losing his fish and not getting it scaled or pictures taken. I probably apologized to him at least 100 times. And he kept saying it was ok. He knew what he caught and was ok with what happened. I definitely owe him one lol! So lesson learned - use two hands on them bass to rinse them off lol.

Sorry it's taking me so long to get to this, and I'm trying to do the best I can to support your channel. It's probably the number one bass fishing channel out there that KZfaq has to offer. I feel extremely blessed to have someone like yourself as a teacher, as far as professional bass fishing tips are considered. Another reason I haven't been keeping up with some of these videos is the fact that I rarely watch a video that is over 40 minutes long, unless you're doing some kind of overnight excursion / living off the land, possibly doing catch and cooks, but so far I haven't seen that type of content on your channel. Other than that brother, superb! If it weren't for you I wouldn't have any idea what I'm doing, and I'm not just saying that to kiss your behind, I think a lot of people could agree!

It's not so much my loss, but my 8 year old son started fishing with me a few months ago. he caught a few reeeeeeally tiny fish then he hooked about a 2-3 pounder and the line snapped. bummed me out more than any fish I've ever lost because he saw it come close and how big it was. the excitement he built up seeing the fish and fighting it followed by the disappointment when the line snapped hurt my heart.

All year I’ve wanted to catch a big pike, but I haven’t had a chance to get the right gear and actually target pike. In my local lake, northern pike are extremely rare. I haven’t seen or heard of anyone catching one there in over 10 years. The other day, I was frog fishing with a buddy of mine, and I was burning the frog in to recast without thinking anything would bite as shallow as the frog was. Boy, was I wrong. A monster pike shoots at the bait - I could see him coming from about 10 feet away like a missile since it was so shallow, but it all seemed to happen in less than a second. And of course, with my luck, he totally missed the frog. It wasn’t a plopper, so it really zig zags when I burn it in. And I cannot stop thinking about that fish. I keep thinking “if I just pulled it in a bit slower… possible PB pike.” But hey, that’s fishing, and I love it

I was fishing as co-angler in a FLW tournament on Kentucky lake. We had 30 minutes left. And I retrieved my hula grub back to the boat and just left it hanging down rite off the bottom. And my angle said are you tired Bruce, i said I’m beat. He said you need one more fish when I felt my line moving and I said I got one when I set the hook I couldn’t move it. We’ll after she jumped 3times, the jig came flying at my head, I ducked and my angle said she was an 8 pounder. What I learned was make sure to duck when I get a big one, and don’t force them in. And I would have got big fish and most weight. Dang. In joying your live video. I’m 68 years old and still addicted to bass fishing. Keep the faith. 🥸👍

Hey Tyler! I really enjoy your content and love your style and attitude. I'm in southeast Michigan, and it's great to see you in the north country. It gives me a better perspective on tackling them around here. I know that you do a lot with BassForecast, and would really like to hear you talk about the BFR for when and where you're fishing and how it changes your approach, if at all. What got me thinking about that was watching you throw topwater on a day that looks all too familiar around here and one I probably wouldn't even think of doing that. Thanks and keep it coming!

Perfect question here. One of the last tournaments I fished with my dad I was feeling super defeated. Didn't catch anything all day even though he did. I was literally trolling a spinner behind the boat like a clown and felt a hard pull. I was embarrassed to tell dad I just got snagged when he's trying his heart out to get us on more fish to catch our weight up. So I started to pull and the snag started to come up, thought I just snagged a stick, got it to surface and it was a 5-6 lb largemouth. In our Michigan River most fish are 2-3 at best or the ones I'd seen. I was young and dumb and excited, I could hear my dad saying don't horse it and keep your line down.. I didn't listen, and tried to boat flip em. Instantly snapped off and boy did I hear about that fish for some time to come. 😅

Hooked up a hog this summer on a spinnerbait with straight 20lb braid - got a bit too excited when I saw him blow up and flare his gills - went to give the hook an extra set to make sure I didn't lose him and my line sheared off 😢 Learned how important a flurocarbon leader is on that day. Now I just throw straight flurocarbon so I don't have to keep tying leader knots. Still hoping to find that fish with my spinnerbait in his mouth 😅

Great question! My biggest lost fish was in a muskie tournament in Northern Minnesota. Lost a muskie over 50 inches in the tournament because my drag was too loose to get a good hookset. Fought it for a while and then saw the white lure just pop out of its mouth. Heartbreaking, legs quivering loss. Lesson is to check your drag. It was like 80lb braid.......but my drag slipped and didn't get the 7/0 hook through. Total bummer.

Earlier this year I lost a big bass that would have been my PB by a long shot. It was totally my fault. I just wasn't prepared. Not only did I forget my net, but I also didn't do a good job of tying on the lure. I got him all the way to the kayak and I botched a grab at the fish. He dove deep after a big jump and broke off the bait.

Great vid as always. I don't have a sentimental lost fish, but have lost and learned. I was on a new body of water and hooked what felt like a monster (for me, probably 6# which would have been 2x my PB at that point). Long story short, it was the first fish where I had to work the drag and I didn't know what the heck to do. Lost the fish when it went on a run about 3' from the bank and snapped the line. I now know to think and adjust my drag as necessary throughout the fight.

Beginner here. Just fished a 17 acre pond whole afternoon today, at the shore ofc. Tossed everything I had in the tackle box, not a single bite, the pond is full of coontail, and underwater bushlike grass. Then I went to flip rocks and got myself a couple of worms, and finally caught a 7" largemouth and a couple of 3 inch pumpkin seeds. The last 3 weeks, I havent got a single fish with artificial bait.

Beginner here too. Haven’t fished since I was a kid and had to get some work done before I could but the water. One my first times bass fishing, I casted out a stick bait on wacky. Felt the hit and started reeling in. Got the fish to the bank. It was long and tubular, so I didn't quite know if it was a catfish or striper. Couldn't flip it onto the bank cause it was going snap my line. So finally I get a good look and see that it isn't a catfish, but a striper. I reach down to pick it up, and then it spit the hook and swan off. Would have been the first bass I ever caught.

Shame on me it took me twice to learn my lesson. I had two big fish hit a jig on the initial fall around 20 years ago. I gave them the business and then panicked as I felt how big they were as they pulled my rod down then the line popped. Lesson was don’t leave drag cranked all the way down. I think back on those 2 fish every now and then and wonder how big they were.

I was fishing a pretty small pond and the fish in this pond are not very big. I was throwing the ned rig around and I had just got hung on a tree in the water and it bent my hook. I knew that I should have change my hook but I bent it back and casted back into the water. The next cast I hooked into, probably the biggest fish in the pond, but then he came off. I reeled my line back in and my hook had got bent out by the fish. I was so mad at my self for not retying. So I learned to retie your hook after you get hung up and bend your hook.

So the main place I fish is a 100 acre private lake here in central Virginia, and I’m determined to try to catch a giant bass. I get plenty of 2-3 pounders, but heading into October, what would you say is the best lure/strategy to catch a giant bass? I don’t have a fish finder, so hopefully there is still some method that could work…

It totally depends on the type of fishing I'm doing. If I'm flipping the bank, skipping docks, topwater or swimming a jig, I turn it completely off. But if I'm hopping in and out of shallow water, knowing some fish could be off the bank a bit, I'll keep it on and glance at it as I'm transitioning from deep to shallow

I have a variety right now. Trying to find a bunch I enjoy, and maybe a company to work with to develop boxes

How about a reciprocal challenge to Tyler? Will you tell us about something you learned from the comment section, if anything? Perhaps the best tips the comment section has offered you about any specific locations, lakes, ponds, etc?

Tyler, You mentioned you aren't a pro. If you were to enter a tournament, what would you register under. Because, you might know a thing or two about bass fishing hahaha. Also how do you think you'd do against the "pros"?
@TylersReelFishing
@TylersReelFishing 11 ай бұрын
I’d register as a “pro”, cause that’s how the tournaments like the opens classify it. And I feel like I’d do OK, but not great. A lot of success on those tours, comes from experience on these bodies of water. I just don’t have that much experience on the big tournaments bodies of water.

@TylersReelFishing thanks for your response!! Your content is always enjoyable to watch, and learning from you is a great pleasure. I wish the best to you and your young family. It would be cool to hear your input on the FFS, and all screens in general, if they were to be banned from just tournament days but able to practice with or banned even on practice days, how the outcome would be. Would like to hear your take on it more. My wife believes it's cheating all together and takes away from fishing and requires no skill at that point. Hahaha, I tried to explain it like you did in this video, but she wasn't buying it, hahaha. Anyways maybe touch a little more in a later video. God bless and fish on brother 🤙
