I think you'll be interested how the concepts you've discussed have really come to life in Australia. According to FactCheck, 'Two newspaper owners (News and Fairfax) accounted for 86% of newspaper sales in Australia in 2011' and this is a staggering incomprehensible amount. 23% is owned by Murdoch and 43% is by the Fairfax Media corporation. Much of our political landscape (esp.how Tony Abbot got to be PM), has been shaped and molded as a result of these corporations with agendas against refugees, getting rid of the carbon tax and the likes. Sound familiar? The Republicans in America somehow still don't get climate change and they aren't a fan of immigration. Maybe, the Koch brothers have something to do with that. (cough, cough) ....it is an incredibly frustrating mindbogglingly incomprehensible world we live in. I dreamt last night, Pope Francis looking at the Republicans and saying, 'Guys, I know you're all anti-gays, but the way you're all going, you may as well be making out with the Koch brothers'. I pray to God that this scenario plays out IRL.

Over the years, I've seen quite the amount of abuse of power, or people turning blind eyes, etc. One of my biggest gripes is how some poor decision (say, in context of security or privacy) always seems to force its way to the top of software projects/companies/law. The result of which are insanely silly defaults like your photo apps defaulting to enabling EXIF data in the name of enhancing user experience (more like to try catch criminals that don't know better...). How everything we buy has a camera and a microphone, oh and also happens to have 100+ security issues over the next 5 years of the products life. Or things like Twitter and Facebook that are able to track your whereabouts on the internet due to some unknown force driving all websites to stick these silly widgets on every website that are loaded from the 3rd party, instead of the site you are actually visiting, thus allowing you to be tracked. So many more things like this.... As for celebs like you being stalked by jerks looking to make a quick buck by getting your picture/video on some site, or otherwise trying to take photo's of you relaxing, I think it's despicable. Sure, I'll admit to having watched some celeb videos merely out of curiosity, but I like videos like this one, not videos some guy took while hiding in your back yard. The lengths these guys go to harass you into saying/acting/doing things they want is terrible. I sat down one night and just watched hours and hours of paparazzi videos harassing stars. I actually got leaky eyed seeing how people like Alec Baldwin get goaded into a fight, or how Seth Rogan has to beg paparazzi to just leave him be. Or someone like Katy Perry who is driven crazy just trying to drive out of a parking lot, merely because she wasn't in the mode to "pay her dues" to the cameras. Or how they get talking nicely to you for a few questions and then switch it up to something controversial that clearly offends the actor. And yes, I even heard about your 18th birthday. Even when stuff like this is caught on camera, or witnessed by dozens of people, nothing ever gets done about it unless have lots of influence/power to escalate the problem to someone who can actually attack the root problem. And even then, probably only a slap on the wrist. Sigh, wall-o-text (tm) again! Take care o/

It's too bad that a LOT of great technology actually has its roots in warfare, that in itself proves that technology can easily be used for bad things. Even as a kid I often contemplated if I should try to invent something or not, because I wanted to do good, but immediately recognized the potential for destruction with what I had in mind. However bad technology may be, I'm convinced it's always worth developing it further, because if it can do bad, it can do good too! An I think we should NEVER pass up the oportunity to do good, and to help the people. Not just with technology, but in every step we take in this life. You do a LOT to better the world. More than I could ever hope to achieve, but that doesn't stop me from trying. And it empowered thousands of people to do what they can to help. Even if it's just by posting a comment, by praising anyone that does do good, and by calling people out that don't do good. It's funny how she says it all comes from a one gender perspective, but all emma does is come from her gender's perspective. I thought she was gonna tap into something when she said all media is owned by few people at the top, but in the next sentence she had to say that it's cuz those owners are all men that we get a certain kind of media. Talk... about... missing... the plot. And when she talks about surveillance, she HAS to talk about it from her celebrity perspective, when it's actually a threat for everyone. She did point that out but it wasn't emphasized on, cuz she's a little princess that does not see how every day life is. The few people at the top are doing WAY more nefarious things other than causing certain views in the media to be put out from their "gender's perspective" which isnt even entirely true, they're behind all perspectives, that emma herself had taken on unknowingly. Most people don't know how few of their own opinions and views are actually their own. She thinks everything revolves around that now. Women are extremely suppressed and made disempowered but it's in ways that Emma herself does not see. Having equal pay and what not is NOT ultimately what will make equality. Women today are extremely controlled in ways they don't even notice, the only things they notice are the very blatant ones, albeit very superficial ones. Also she doesn't get that democracy means mob rule. Which doesn't make everyone equal. Having the ability to express yourself and show your take on things without any censorship by using these technologies of today, are COMPLETELY irrelevant if people's fundamental understanding of how the world works is polluted and severely ill informed. Which is caused by those at the top. People think going into one category/persona or the other is the way to go, but those are boxes, and they can see you in boxes. To use the analogy of Frodo staying on the path, he can be seen easier by those who seek the ring. Same is it with being part of a category, following a program (i.e taking on a premade persona/personality and thinking it's who you really are) because you fall right into their trap of those who make sure the world stays asleep. Truth is outside all fixed patterns. As soon as you go into something and call yourself a "liberal", a "feminist", a whatever, you've LOST the plot! It is controlled opposition you've sided with, while thinking you're original and figured things out.
