The copper washer annealing method is an old aircraft A&P trick we use for our spark plug washers. You had so much fun annealing them that you put the sequence in twice. It was Deja Vu all over again.

I knew about annealing but I didn't know copper age-hardens on its own. I'll be doing this with my hoard of copper washers from now on. Good one.

Major MISTAKE: You did not remove the rust from the drive flange when you fitted your new disc ....................Thats a sure fire way to have Brake Squeal and Judder. Also Eicher BD's are garbage ....................should have fitted Brembo's or Mintex

I was told never lubricate wheel bolts/nuts, fools the torque wrench, thus they are overtightened. A good clean with wire brush is enough. My 2 penneth for what its worth.

Thats a good point Ian. I will have to have a think about that one🤔

in one sense that's true if it slips, but there's no slip then I cannot see it making any difference, just my thoughts

where as putting copper grease on your threads has has to be a good thing.
@peterrenn6341 Жыл бұрын
@@toucan221 Yup. Copper grease is not a lubricant it's an anti-seize.

Hi John .... just catching up with your videos. This one is very informative as usual but I would suggest that you might be overtightening the front brake line banjo connection to the calliper. I believe that the recommended torque for the front banjos is around 15Nm but I would bet that yours are at 2 or 3 times that level. The threads have clearly survived but I would suggest a careful inspection if you have to remove the banjo bolts again. All the best. Richard.

Thanks richard. Good advice. I will get a good small torque wrench once the autojumbles restart👍

Banjo bolts snap very easily if over-torqued - especially super-expensive BMW ones. Ask me how I know ;-(
@FS-wl6uo25 күн бұрын
On the X350 workshop manual, the manufacturer instructs to tighten to 35 NM - that considering you are using genuine banjo bolt. I've snapped an aftermarket bolt with probably not even half of that.

Re the comment at the end of my video. One of our subscribers needs some tips from someone who has a functional OE XK8 phone that rings. Anyone help?

I had a Startac Motorola phone in my XJ8, which phone does he have?
@ToTheGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hi Graham. I have just this moment emailed the gent in question and asked him to reply to your comment His name is Kevin Still. I won't hand out his email address as its not my place to do so, but I imagine he will let us know what his phone is very soon. Thanks for responding. FYI here is an extract from a recent email I have an issue with the in car phone. I decided to use it as an a emergency back up and put a cheap PAYG SIM card in it and it worked!.... partially. I can make and receive calls directly from the handset but on incoming calls neither the handset (when off cradle) or the car sound system (when on cradle) will ring... I’ve removed all sounder off options on the phone menu. Is there a phone guru out there that can assist? Am I missing something? Kind Regards, Kevin Still

Good video. But that rear looked veery tight. You should not have to hammer them on if the piston is back all the way.
@ToTheGarage3 жыл бұрын
Correct lorcan. If I had used a calliper retractor just prior to installation. it would have gone in easier. 👍
@lmachugh18103 жыл бұрын
Just make sure it’s not binding.
