Antonio Conte's time at Tottenham Hotspur appears to be coming to a close. I know- shocking. Because of that, I think now seems like a good time to recount what's been going on over in North London that has led us to this point.

Can someone please explain to me how one becomes a Tottenham fan? You would have to have been bullied into it by a family member or something. Otherwise for anyone outside of North London who isn't a gunners fan, what recent history of winning do they have to get new fans? It really looks like an abusive relationship for the spurs supporters.

Antonio is an absolute Legend. Remember when he took Juventus from Seventh place in the league to winning it 3 times in a row? Remember him leading Bari to a Serie B title, and Siena to promotion from the same division two years later? Remember when he took struggling Inter to Europa final? @@gabrieldrg7814 Conte, like mourinho works well with hardworking players that pickup the slack. Look at the character of the players he's been successful with and look at the character of the Tottenham players. You can bring a horse to water but you cannot force him to drink. He cannot FORCE Tottenham players to play like they want to win consistently. They have to WANT to. When Antonio went to Juventus and told players like Andrea Pirlo and Giorgio chiellini, that they need to stop playing so crap, they understood the assignment IMMEDIATELY and went on to win several titles in 3 years because they WANTED to be better. Tottenham does not WANT to be better badly enough.

In Argentina we have a phrase: "le faltan cinco para el Peso" (roughly translates to "they're five cents short of the Peso") which is used to refer to a club (or any institution/person, really) that keeps showing promise and potential, but when the "important moments" show up, they're lacking. They're always missing *something* and they can't turn their potential into reality because of it. That describes the Spurs in a nutshell, good but never good enough when it matters.

As a spurs fan, I blame this on the upper management and owner. There’s a reason that we haven’t won anything in 15 years, and it sure as hell isn’t because of bad players. However, I am, unlike most people, not happy with Conte’s interviews and choices. Yes, we definitely took our foot off the petal vs Southampton, but it was his subs (mainly Sarr) who helped weaken us and it only took one of the worst pen calls I’ve ever seen to walk away with a DRAW. Also, I think his favoritism for Son and Perisic is terrible. Yes, they are amazing players but back when we ran Richarlison at LW (over son) and Ben Davies (over Perisic), we got a great result over Chelsea. Then, despite both players having objectively better form than Son and Perisic, he benched them vs A.C. Milan. Furthermore, the formations need work. Tottenham are not meant to be a back 3 club. Earlier in the season (back when we stayed top of the Prem table for a bit), we ran a back 4 and got results (I think this is because Romero is our only good CB and our full-backs could cover our CB weakness more). Then, he switched to a back 3 and our defense got leaky. Then, in January, instead of getting a desperately needed CB, he gets a ST on loan and a RWB in Pedro Porro. Yes, Porro is a great signing but I feel a CB would have helped more. Anyways, because of all this, we will most likely lose one of the best strikers of this generation in Harry Kane, most likely lose Kuli back to Juve, and might even lose Son! This is years in the making and I hope non-spurs fans can recognize how hard it to support this hellhole that they call a club.

Tottenham is an eternal unfinished club. Conte is doing what he can, but the entire environment just isn't with him. Of course his idea of football is very attached to the classic Italian style (even if today many top Italian managers don't use that style anymore: Ancelotti, Spalletti, Sarri, Pioli, Italiano, De Zerbi... Allegri doesn't really have a playbook) and maybe it collides with the squad he manages. But we must me honest: the manager isn't the guilty one. The board has the haughtiness that their club is a big club: it is, of course, but this doesn't mean they can't be humble. Arsenal is a big club but they decided to trust Arteta, giving him time, rebuilding the squad as he preferred, accepted the idea to "not exactly" thrive for a number of years but finally have a healthy, sustainable and (almost, we'll see) successful project. Spurs simply don't do it. They consider themselves big and want everything instantly. It doesn't matter how much you pay a manager, it doesn't matter how many trophies he won... They must change their attitude. Invest in youngsters, don't spend millions and millions to be competitive for just a year. Build a project. Build a vision.
@domenicocolletti6052
@domenicocolletti6052 Жыл бұрын
The fact is that if you want to achieve some results you can't lose dumb points in the league. That's the difference between an attitude to perform and win something at the end of the season and an attitude to don't achieve anything at the end. You can lose point or matches for tactical reasons with other teams at the same level on the paper. But in the other matches you have to be strong enough in mentality to not reopen It in the last minute ...

The problem is that when Poch's tenure started to go wrong, instead fix it Spurs completely lost the plot and turned around the way how the team was built and trained. If they couldn't keep the argentine, they still could get someone aligned to the same philosophy of building the team playing positive football you can enjoy and try to win something. And as a neutral I was full of prise for them, and the way they had played under Pochetino. There's a lot of big clubs that haven't won anything for the long time, as a competition is getting stronger every year, with new super rich state owned clubs in the game. Just look at arsenal, they were really poor for long time. What Spurs have now it's, eye souring football style, and.... no success.

When someone tells the truth of the situation, their first instance to call it a meltdown or egotistic rant instead of testing the validity of the statements being said. Conte took accountability and responsibility for the situation and at the end of the day, he said journalist always make excuses for the players. Whether it is the tactics or the style of management and now the fact that he has not renewed, always excuses. What does Conte's possibility of leaving have to do with your performance on the pitch? Isn't it your responsibility to do your best to win everytime you are out there for the club and the fans? That is the selfishness he speaks of. In the end he said even if they change the manager, the situation won't change. Well that says that the managers at Spurs have little to work with and have to make the best out of it and even if they do, the directors at the club do not increase their support of that manager. Redknapp, AVB, Poch, Nuno, Jose have all done their best yet they are the problem? No. If there is nothing wrong with what he said, it is not a rant, or a meltdown, or lack of accountability, it is the truth.

For years Levy had what he wanted: the promise that kept the ground full but not the success that would have forced his hand in investing in the team. First he sacked the manager that took Spurs to a CL Final, an unthinkable achievement when Poch took over, because Pochettino correctly said that the team needed rebuilding. Then Levy sacked Mourinho when Mourinho threatened to win Spurs a trophy even if it was only the Carabao Cup, because allowing Mourinho to win the trophy would have made him unsackable. It was inevitable that the players would catch on and start playing the game: sign on for good money, promise the supporters the world and then not deliver.

That's what your gonna get, when a team only plays in the 2nd half. How demoralizing it must be, to play like that. Couldn't think of a better way to stop the flow of a player and a team.

I don't understand the grief that Spurs get. In the past decade, they've reached 2 League Cup finals, 1 UCL final, & finished runner up in the PL. They've basically challenged for everything at a time when Chelsea, Arsenal, City, United, and Liverpool can afford to spend more than them. No one outside of Spurs expects them to challenge, so they've done well.

I wrote a comment about Conte, regarding his transfer decisions and tactical changes is burying the class of Son Heung Min on another video. Yet I'm still seeing people 'ball-licking' him as an anti-hero that all the Spurs fans needed, like "It's the history of Tottenham", "Antonio is an absolute legend, he spoke the truth about the club", "Conte won in Chelsea and Inter, so he failed at Tottenham because of the club itself", etc. Why? 1/ Levy and the club banged the summer transfer window just to convince Conte to stay. Now Conte complains about what? 2/ A world-class manager, still, can make mistakes. Pep Guardiola, the best one out there, is still sometimes overthinking. His own mistake even took away City's first and could be the only UCL cup. Conte is no exception. He won at Juventus, Inter, Chelsea, doesn't mean he can do the same thing at Spurs, especially when the opponents know him too well due to his fame already. Yeah every great manager makes mistakes. But the thing that make a man out of you is to make responsibility from that. Conte, I never see him doing it in his entire career. Blam, blame, blame, that's what he is! 3/ He blamed the players' morale. But where are his personnel managing skills as a manager, a head figure of the club? Did he ever reflect himself that he put the players into overloaded work so that the players don't want to work with him anymore? 4/ Somebody will say "Well, but that management sought success in Inter and Chelsea". That's a very wrong thought, regarding ultra-conservative perspectives. Human being diverses in different contexts. So are the players. If you bring a company's vision to 100% apply into another, be ready to see the failure coming. Change! Don't blame! Don't try to use your decent looking CV to cover up the mistake you've just made as a bad and old-fashion fallacy! 5/ More about football diversity, is the evolution of football. Yes, football changes, evolves and is different. You can't bring the winning philosophy in Serie A to EPL and expect to harvest the same success. Neither can you bring the winning philosophy in 2017 into the 2022-2023 time. It's 5 years, not months! Conte demands from the players the adaptations, but never be the one who adapts well. He is just that conservative. I can see from every single ball move, which are mostly solved and countered by his opponents. He is just not adaptable, and yeah, out-dated soon! 6/ Stop hoping that he will bring the winning mentality or any kind of supernatual fortune into Spurs. Don't try to refer Chelsea or Inter to blame the Spurs board as it is meaningless. You have to be realistic! Take the contemporary facts to brainstorm. Take a look on every single gesture, transfer decidion and tactic he does at Spurs to see how bad he did! He can't be successful at Spurs, yeah because of Levy, because of the players, and surely because of himself, too. Don't exclude him from this depression! I don't know if Spurs can change after the Conte's era. Maybe he was right. Situation won't change! But even that, I can't deny the fact that he ruined the club, too, at least this season. I see one key comment under this video to firm my statement: 'Things in life are never black or white. Its easy to put all on the players.' Bloke come on, try to say sorry at least once! Matter of fact, I'm a true Gooner at casual football fan. There's no reason I need to protect Levy or Spurs. But I think we need a fair view about this.
