Yeah Johnson does seem quite limited. Considering how well we have been doing in the transfer market recently I am surprised we spent nearly £50 mil on him. Doesn't look like a great investment

He's young, has some potential, but in my opinion, decent for mid-table side, not a potential European cup/title challenging side we want to eventually become. People love to bring up his "G+A" but if you actually look deeper at his underlying numbers, he is hugely underperforming the opportunities he gets in this team, and overperforming his expected assists by over 100% with teammates in Son and Richarlison who have overperformed their xG this season. He's unfortunately bottom 1% in xG (expected goals) conversion in all of the top 5 leagues for wingers/atk mids. It's like have 20 big chances, scoring 10 of them and fans going, "Look, he scored 10 goals, what a good player." Now that we better understand his "stats", as "stats" aren't the be-all end all of evaluating a player, we use the eye test instead. Which unfortunately, is where he fails the most for me. My biggest gripes are his, both very limited arsenal and inconsistent final ball delivery. He is clearly not a great dribbler or very inspiring on the ball. Most people would agree his best attribute is not really a footballing specified one in his pace. And at this level, you just become way too predictable, easy to defend and end up wasting opportunities in the final 3rd. I think most people can see how many times he crosses straight into a defender, or tries to ambitiously cross it across a full box of defenders where they easily deal with it or he completely overhits it. Second, is his poor control when receiving the ball, many times, you will see the ball slide right off his boot and lose possession, the same issue is there when positioning his feet to take a first time shot where he may completely mishit the ball . He just seems to never be ready to receive the ball either due to a technical or focus issue and we always think, "oh, he got unlucky there", or "the pass was too strong". I think the club kind of panicked towards the end of the last summer window when Kane got sold right before the season started, and they needed a HG forward in numbers to replace Kane, saw Forest had FFP problems and tried to get a "good deal". He did not even stand out at Forest and probably still would not at a club I feel better suited for him in Brentford. Since he's already here, has a good personality in the squad and since it's probably unrealistic to see him getting sold, I have little problems as long as he is not our starting winger.

Totally agree. More athlete than footballer. Hard to believe we spent half the Kane money on him. But like you suggest, that's not his fault, we chose to spend that money on him

First of all, per the original comment, signing them is *what I would try to do* ... IE, not what I think the club will do and not what I think would happen. To be fair to you, it is funny to think about Spurs immediately doubting a player's ambition after they've agreed to sign, but that's not really how it would happen... and obviously no club in Spurs position with a need to sign wide forwards would realistically pass on an opportunity to sign either of those players at £60;million each as reported 😂 Any team that puts in the right bid can chat to the player and discuss the details of a move before making a final decision. That is an actual clear fact and it really that simple. Although it's obviously more of an outside chance, Spurs and Ange have publicly stated their title ambitions... albeit very optimistic to say the least, they have that goal and trying to get good players is pretty important to that 🤷‍♂️ I look at the top three clubs right now and I don't see either of Eze or Olise in the starting 11 week in/week out over the likes of Saka, Salah, Silva, Foden, Grealish, Doku, Martinelli, Trossard, Diaz, etc. Maybe they don't care about that, I don't know, but they've both signed deals at Palace while being linked to bigger clubs already. Then there's Spurs/Villa/Newcastle/Chelsea/Man U where they could play a lot and have a natural step up from Palace. They can just put the money on the table without selling anyone first, get on the phone and sell the project. It's not unrealistic for Spurs to want them and then to be sold on the move.
