As I already said in "Into the open air", I'm not a massive fan of the European French version, since I think the singer doesn't fit much the whole atmosphere of the movie, but I just love these lyrics (and even more those of Into the open air). That's why I decided to make this video!

I’m not at all agree with people who think Maeva’s voice doesn’t fit with Merida character. She’s brave, hard and rebel, that’s right, she’s not like others princesses and more like girls from our era. That’s doesn’t mean she can’t have a girl, pretty and noble voice. Maeva’s voice fit with the lyrics and she sing right, so I don’t understand why she’s better for Rapunzel than Merida. Maybe you think that cause you’re not French (I am) but her way to sing is not at all like Maeva sing as Rapunzel. It’s totally different. I’ve a rough voice, strong and harsh, but I look like a tiny fourteen years old girl (I’ve 18). So that’s not pertinent, so I think Maeva’s voice is perfect for break the idea that brave and strong persons have a voice similar to their apparence/personality

People also conveniently forget that the original wasn't sung by the voice actor but by a singer with a completely different voice

I really like Maeva Méline's voice... but only if she isn't singing as Merida. You're right, she doesn't fit Merida at all; actually, she fits Rapunzel way better ! I prefer Marilou, the Canadian French singer, as Merida.

Sheridan Mann Yes, but anyway she doesn't fit. I'll try to make you understand *my* opinion. Listen to the italian version, for example: she's obviously an adult voice, but she fits, because she's brave, she's rebel, she's, someway, Merida, she isn't only a cute voice. Do you know what I mean?

I've listened to this version and another French one sung by Anais Delva and I much prefer this version. Next to Toi (French version of Strong from the live action Cinderella) I have developed an addiction to this song and the French lyrics.

Completely agree with you. Anaïs Delva has a strong voice while Maeva Meline has a soft voice that matches well with this song! If you wanna know more, she is actually the singer/voice of Rapunzel! :D

The singer is not unfortunately Merida because her voice can't match with Merida's attitude. Tough, this singer is the French voice of Rapunzel! :)

Wow, you're not need to be offensive. If she was the voice and singer of Merida, it would be totally normal. It depends of the director's choice. But in this case, Merida's voice and singer are not the same but I'd be agree if there were the same.

Okay now I get it. It is not about fitting Merida's voice but about fitting the English singer's voice. I'm sure you have listened to the English version and the singer doesn't really fit with Merida. The director decided to fit the singer and not the character.

My ears are bleeding. Her voice is not Merida at all. But she's good. Not as Merida but she's good. And can someone tell me what ''Furibonde'' means? I mean, I'm from Quebec and I don't understand it

+edith gagnon Pour une fois que vous ne rabaissez pas notre version française :) "furibonde" signifie furieuse, mais peut-être que c'est une expression typiquement française que vous n'utilisez pas au Québec

Agathe H Non j'adore la voix de Maeva sur Raiponce c'est ma préférée dans toutes les langues :) mais sur Merida je préfère Marilou du Québec. Merci pour Furibonde et je dois avouer que je n'avais jamais entendu ce mot de toute ma vie! Alors je crois que ce doit être comme tu dis une expression typiquement française :) Merci pour ta réponse et de ne pas m'insulter parce que je suis québécoise...

edith gagnon Oui, j'adore Maeva aussi, elle a fait un travail remarquable dans Raiponce, surtout pour le doublage parlé. Je ne suis pas une grande fan de la performance de Marilou, qui manque un peu de dynamisme selon moi, mais je dois avouer qu'elle a une voix splendide (elle correspond plus à Merida que Maéva mais pas encore assez à mon goût). Ahah, pourquoi je vous insulterais ? Ça me choque que vous pensiez ça

Agathe H Oh oui Maeva est superbe et je trouve que Marilou a une voix d'ange et que son manque de dynamisme fait que sa version est excellente. À propos des insultes, à chaque fois que je mentionne dans un commentaire que je suis québécoise, il y a toujours un français ou une française qui m'insulte en disant que je ne sais pas parlé le « vrai » français comme eux et que les québécois sont une honte pour la langue française, etc, etc. Ce n'est absolument pas contre vous, au contraire je suis heureuse de pouvoir enfin avoir une discussion sensée avec quelqu'un de la France :)

edith gagnon Je trouve ça ridicule d'insulter les québécois parce qu'ils sont québécois, ça nous fait juste passer pour encore plus arrogants, aux yeux du monde. Je sais que les français ont pris l'habitude de se moquer gentiment de l'accent québécois parce qu’à nos oreilles, cette façon de parler a quelque chose de très caricaturale, et ça la rend du coup très attachante (vraiment, dès que j'entends un québécois parler, ça me fait sourire, pas parce que je me moque mais parce que ça m'attendris). Mais l'accent et les expressions, c'est tout ce qui nous différencie en réalité. La preuve : on se comprend sans problème à l'écrit
