Hi. I haven't got round to putting anything up on GitHub yet. May get round to it in the next couple of weeks. I'm using a PIC microcontroller for both the scale controller and the combiner. I think that's always the way. I didn't feel too out of touch until we got some new graduates in, and they're almost talking a different language now.

Hi Dave. I came across the caliper to pc system right when I started looking at this, but I didn't want to have a laptop next to the mill, it just seemed too untidy, so I did my own take on it. I'll show a bit more detail on the mods to the scales in the next video. Just off to the shed now that the kids are asleep.

I know, it's just one of those projects I started ages ago when I didn't have that kind of money, and I wanted to finally make it work. It's the problem solving that's the interesting bit for me. That said I'm considering buying some decent scales, but I prefer the TouchDRO interface to the basic DROs that you get.

@@ollysworkshop You know that Yuriy sells a 4,3,2,1 chan adapter for essentially all scales out there now with BT to his TouchDRO. 4ch kit (assemble only, not raw board component kit - they're even lower in price) is currently only $109 and the new versions also have RPM and limit switch inputs and touch probe soon to be. So you can use your glass, magnetic, capacitive scales with the touchDRO on your tablet. You are literally $109 and 3 DB(E)-9 connector pinouts away (I just watched your "Cheapest DRO I could find" video) where you've replaced all this project with turn-key. But you can still use your TouchDRO if you wish as well :-). Cheers!

@@physicsguybrian Hi, yes I do. There were two reasons for doing this. One was an exercise in programming for my own benefit, second I wanted to use calipers to keep the cost low, and they all seem to have auto power off now, so my little circuit would turn them back on again. Yuriys solution doesn't have a method for doing this as far as I can see. All academic now though as I got a proper DRO. Thanks.

Hi, first try the 'digital filter options in the settings on touch DRO. One thing that seems to be necessary is isolating the scale from the machine. Stand it off from the metal of the machine with plastic spacers, and sleeve screw holes so there's no contact. Ground loops can cause a lot of noise. I ended up making little microcontroller boards to put with the read head that convert the 1.5v scale Comms to 5v TTL UART type Comms. This is pretty bomb proof. Hope this helps.
