It brilliant to see these videos, having read many books on selection it is really good to see the terrain in a video. Well done to all that attempt this and respect to all those that manage selection. One question i have is that i thought the Special Forces were always avoiding paths and tracks, is this not the case during selection routes?

23 and 22R Selection has always been a bit of a mystery to me tbh unlike 21 and Regular. This looks a stunning area tbh, is it the Galloway hills or Lowlands? I've just celebrated 50 years in mountaineering with an ascent of The Devils Slide on Lundy with a few Ex Cdo colleagues and have now reverted to sub 2000s, looks like this area is worth a visit 👍👍

Could you provide a breakdown of your food supplies for these six plus hours and what lessons you learned - weight/stomach issues etc with your choice?

White bread from the affiliate lathered up with slightly green marg and thick slices of round cheese 'posessed' (processed) from a tin and strawberry jam sandwiches about 4 rounds. Couple of mars bars and a tin of mandarine slices in syrup any questions ha

That was what it was about. Not easy. Actually harder than PYF. I remember 2 regular 22 attached. Doing it 1 each way. Both fkd at end. 1 def not carrying weight in his day sack! At the time said it all. Yet we stabs got slagged off.

Just laughed my head off. Brought back memories. I remember filming it myself for RTT. With SQN video cam. I set off last and carried weight and camera. No wpn because I was DS. I stopped 2 blokes just about to throw bergans off side of decent twds turn round point. One was my ex PLT CMDR from previous Reg. He was 41 and went on to pass. His unit was sponsor. I wanted him binning for cheating. Like I commented in your other vid. Is it harder than Proper Fan or not. Main diff is its slightly better under foot like you said. Only a few recruits beat me in if I recall correct. Camera battery went just as I descended to final RV. Happy memories.❤❤❤

There was also an officer that was over the cut off time that got a pass and went on to command a sqn...

@@CraigArnott Hi. Im not aware of that. Cut off is cut off. But sometimes numbers game came into play. You might be correct. Bloke i mentioned , i later found out had officer slot already for him. But he had to pass the times and TQ. I cannot and wont ever post my video. It would compromise myself and the blokes. Id love to put the world to rights with it. I was proper breathing out my arse stopping and filming it.

@@rickydepledge3245 the rumour was.. Short of officers and he owned a large part of the land the squadron used for training on.... I remember watching the "hells jocks" vid in the bar i think part of it was released to stv as part of recruitment drive... Think it was made about 97? As had b sqn being first to win the dick arthur cup

Just watched it 2nd time on large screen. Got to take the piss now. Sorry if it offends. You look like your about 0.5km an hour speed. For the record 4km an hour is an average expected speed. You actually must be capable of going between 6 to 8km an hour to make the time on the day. You simply have to run ( jog really) all the flat and all the downhill. Also not hang about on the uphill. Short sharp strides. Your not there to sight see or chat. Head down arse up and go for it. We never put out little flags to mark the way either. Thats copying regular selection. You would not believe it but blokes actually go wrong and get lost on routes like this. Usually switching off and just folowing bloke in front that veers off route. By the time someone realises youve got it wrong your way behind. Hence needing to be capable of 6-8km an hour. We all make mistakes and have to make up time.

You're not wrong 🤣 It took me over 7 hours! Pace collapsed on the return leg. I've put it down as a recce made some route notes and will have a better game-plan for next year! 👊🥾

Cannot expect civvies to complete this sort of tab in realistic time. Even when they dont carry the weight like wr have to do. Your either bergan fit or your not. It realy comes from years carrying weight day in and day out. At you have balls to have a go so fair play to you. Im in my 60s now. I cannot believe i did it myself all those years ago. When i filmed it i was just out of mil hospital with spine fractured in 4 places. Stress fractures!!@@HardRoutine_TOTW

I was a Selection DS for the joint 21/23 camp in the early nineties based out of Beleby. I do not recall this being one of the routes. Back then 'high walk' was called 'Long Drag.'
@HardRoutine_TOTW
@HardRoutine_TOTW 2 ай бұрын
Candidates still do Long Drag along the same route in South Wales at the end of test week. This was a pre-selection route unique to 23 before successful candidates went on to UKSF testweek.

I was DS 23. Dont matter what it was called it was final tab before they went onto joint with regulars.

To add this was instigated in the early 90s. Regular RTT PSIs changed selection to bring it into alignment with 22. 21 and 23 was different so it was all standardised and much improved. MOD then brought it joint selection and Reserves added into it once they had done most at there SQNS.

@rickydepledge3245 I did it in 1999. It's bloody nasty. Greenbell, Randygill Top, The Calf and then White Fell and turn around and repeat. One of the guys had a heart attack on the top of the Calf and was airlifted off. It's a nasty sub 5 hour drama, and we lost a few great fellas who didn't make the time.

@@HardRoutine_TOTW Thanks mate, good of you to reply. I know the Lakes west and a little east but have done very little in the Borders area. I completed the KIMM 'A' class In 1981 around the Lakes, quite enjoyable. I ll look this area up. Of course it's the same old story eh 🙂 we never see the beauty of these areas either while being tested or at night, the objective and concentration is elsewhere, thx again 👍👍🪂🪂
