Why A1708 is the toughest to perform RAM upgrade?
- Apple likes to put black underfill on this a1708 that makes everything hard: from RAM removal process to New RAM installation(note that we need to scrape off underfill around the perimeter of RAM chips, and remove the RAM using razor blade instead of normal tweezers like other models.)
- You need to clean all the underfill(risk of missing pad and knocking off other components) before putting new RAM chips. Using Black Glue Remover does little effect to it.
- A1708 has RAM chips on both sides, 2 chips on top side, 2 chips on bottom side. So we cant install all 4 chips simultaneously like any other Macs.

To be fair, it's the only way to achieve such a small factor. If people voted with their wallet to buy computers that are user upgradable, Apple would quit the practice.

I used to solder boards at an assembly job. It is not easy to solder mini parts. But if you have not done couple years of soldering, it is easy to burn things up. And the solder joints can be brittle if too much heat. Not enough heat will cause easy disjoint.

Nice job, I'm looking at a MacBook Pro A1708 reporting a possible problem with a memory module. I don't have the skill or the tools to make such repair. This is one of those models that normal repair shops can't do. It falls under the category of NOT REPAIRABLE BY MERE MORTALS.

This is impressive... this guy is litterally playing with components the size of a grain of salt, and risking the integrity of a 1000$+ machine for an upgrade. That's some god-tier operation. Also it's fking sad, because all this super hard work could be avoided by just making swappable memory sticks. Think about it before buying a mac.

Lol, he used all the ways to heat it. Definitely not a DIY thing, must be professionally made (unlike the simple SSD upgeade). And that's gonna cost more. So might be better selling and buying a better mac.
