I have a 2019 in red frame. Great bike to get back in cycling after a 30 year break. Perfect for the roads and fire trails in the Black Hills of South Dakota. 3000 miles over the last 2 summers. Sold me so hard on RE that I now also have a 650 Continental GT as a stablemate. Simple, rugged, and dependable. Only change I made was to change indicator lights on the dash to LED except for the high beam indicator.

@@forgottenmotorcycles I do not know about eastern SD but on the west side we have 2. One in Spearfish and one in Rapid City.

I’ve got one here in the U.K. Absolutely love it, great for shorter rides up to 50 miles. I have done a 180 miler on it but prefer my BMW 850gs for longer rides. Enfield fuel consumption is amazing, I forget when I last filled it.

This is probably my favorite RE 500 model. Would love to have one of my own. Do have a good friend with one but he doesn't let me ride it enough...lol! Wahoo!

Apparently the works ISDT bikes had green frames & the red framed bikes were used as back up to monitor any problems or breakdowns complete with a field telephone on the back.

I had a green one. Absolutely stunning motorcycle. I ended up selling it just this summer because I am older and short and was having difficulty with the very heavy weight of the bike. I felt it was better for both me and the motorcycle if I got rid of it before I laid her over. And FYI that is not the stock muffler that one looks very wrong on that motorcycle.

Beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I think that the stock silencer looks absolutely hideous... Changed mine for a Hitchcocks upswept alternative (Hitchcocks are a UK specialist Royal Enfield aftermarket parts supplier). Doesn't look too dissimilar to the one fitted to this bike....but more old fashioned British.

old video i know, but question of choice... do you like the 2020 royal enfield 500's more or less than the royal enfield 350's?? both look very custom friendly, and looks like both can cope with knobby tyres for light off roading ... not as much as your himalayan... but some :)

We've talked about this at that shop a few times. RE350 are smother, better handling and have higher level of fit & finish, not to mention the 3 year warranty. The 500 does have more power and feels more like a vintage bike. 500 vibrates a bit, isn't as smooth and takes a bit more effort to ride, not much but more. Both are good bikes, the current 350 is more modern. I do have a 350 Classic and have done a bit of dirt, gravel and some mud, bike did well. Would love to have both and I'm sure I'd ride the 350 more. Wahoo!

I never noticed the muffler on one of these before. It looks like a double tube design. I wonder if these are available.

Any luck on finding out what muffler is mounted? I am very interested myself, imo best looking alternative seen so far! Much appreciated if you could come back to this if any news.

This is absolutely not a replica of anything made in the 50s. This is a completely new design and doesn't even have any ground clearance to make it suitable for the mildest off roading. It looks OK for what it is though.
