I bought one of these Bullet Trials last July. Absolutely love it. I have owned many brands...Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawi, Triumph and many sizes...1, 2, 4 cylinder from 90cc up to 900. Every other bike I owned were all actually kind of boring compared to my RE. It ain't fast or particularly smooth, but it looks, runs, shifts, and rides like a real motorcycle. All iron, no plastic, simple, easy to work on. A real motorcycle the way they were intended originally. These bikes scream personality! And comfortable??? OMG easily THE most comfortable sitting/riding position of any motorcycle I have ever owned. The seat is amazing. Just about every other bike I have owned needed aftermarket parts to get to a decent rideable comfort level. These RE's are amazing right out of the box. That was the first thing I noticed the very first time I rode one. I have not seen any quality issues at all that everyone bitches about on these forums either. I know there are better riding, running motorcycles out there but I am long past the crotch rocket stage and lying on a gas tank to ride with your head at a 90 degree angle to your back looks horrid for comfort, and I refuse to ride a big, heavy chrome plated bulldozer around town, so the Royal Enfield suits me perfect. It is low, slow, comfortable, not real big, not real heavy, and is a blast for this short old man to ride. Might even try a little off road with it soon. GREAT,GREAT job Royal Enfield. Sorry I didn't find you sooner and also sorry to see after 70 something years you are moving on from the Bullet model but we all know change is inevitable...like it or not.

The vibration is due to needing running in. 500 miles plus! I wish the shops selling these bike would not let reviewers have brand new bikes that have not been run in.

Vibration is always worse when the engine is new. Improves dramatically with use. Easy to fit mirror adaptors to sort problem.

Yeah...totally different experience than any modern offerings. Vibration improves with mileage. I had same issue with gear to footpeg distance when riding in conventional modern boots. A change of footwear to boots which allow more ankle flex sorts that plus muscle memory when ridden often. They're for the enthusiast. A bit like marmite. I love em😊

The engines barely done any miles so it'll feel like a bag of spanners until you hit 6-700 miles and she smooths out. I've got 1,200 miles on mine & she feels great now.

Every new bike I’ve testrode needed the shifter moved up a notch or two for boots, not a big deal. “Only had 24 miles on it when we picked it up, it’s got substantially more than that now”...yes Mark, 33, thats 9 more, time for an in-depth review .😊

That's what I thought, even my CRF Rally needed to move the gear shifter up 2 notches which is a 2 min job with a spanner lol!

I love most bikes. Bullet 500s are the ones that makes me smile the most. The reviewer was complaining about a pro - the optional kick start? They complained that it didn't get up and go? It's a modern single 500. All sorts of complaints. From the pegs to the gearing display and so on. I haven't heard any other reviews mention these things. I don't understand. It's nice to hear different points of view, but maybe this reviewer wasn't the person for this bike?

I ride mine regularly here in Pennsylvania USA. I ride on back roads and generally keep it under 50 MPH. I have never had a problem with it. My trips are usually 25 - 75 miles. Very comfy for that distance. The mirrors are NOT USELESS. You need to adjust them. I can see behind me with both. Yes, it draws a crowd wherever you take it. The bike becomes totally different after it's broken in - around 1200 to 1500 miles. As for the gear shift, all you do is loosen the bolt on the spline and rotate the gear lever up either one or two notches. That's what I did right away and then you have lots of room for your foot. Vibration is what a single does and I love it. Cheers.

You seemed to have issues which are an easy fix like the gear lever and vibration which suggest you have always ridden a multi cylinder smooth modern styled bike so don't apreciate what this bike is. The gear lever problem takes 5 minutes of your time, take out one small bolt and reposition the lever about three splines up and your foot will fit under easily. As for vibrations putting 1k on the clock fixes that. It will always vibrate a bit but that is the character of the bike. I have owned one in the past and would have another tomorrow but as a second bike just for fun. This new scrambler model looks awesome.

It's a classic, not a retro. They need a few miles on to free up. And only 4k at mo! I have friends who ride 60,s British classics and they think its smooth. If you are coming from honda cb500 then you won,t. All relative.love mine but I accept it warts and all.

RE should have made it more utilitarian, like a despatch bike.. forget the cute tu tone paint.. pegs could be better, like the himalayan's w/removable insets. They gave it the bum's rush into the dust bin of history.. not good enough to use, but great as a conversation piece, and because they're no longer available, I now want one! 🤔

I have 1000 miles on mine and is very smooth and very little vibration. Shifter is fully adjustable ,just in case you have large boots and extra large shoulders the mirrors are adjustable as well.The footpegs are very comfortable. I have more fun on it than my Triumph tiger 800. I wish it had more options,but then it wouldn't be replica trials 500.

Minor quibbles. Assuming 'tis run in properly, vibration near enough vanishes after 1,000 miles. Gear lever is adjustable, no problem there at all! Mirrors? Plenty of altenatives.

One for sale near me. I am so intrigued. I mean, your comments on the basic dash and lack of features is why i like it.... the other stuff can be fixed... change the pegs, adjust the shifter or even get a longer one....Sounds like the motor needs breaking in to get smooth.

Good review guys. I just think you forgot its an old trials style bike so will be minimal. Foot rests need swapping out for steel cleat pegs . Reminds me of Sammy Miller's AJS Apart from obviously the road kit, lights & mud guards

I rode one to test with around 450 miles one the clock a couple of weeks ago, the vibes were just fine. I rode a 500 classic with 0 miles and vibrated badly over 55. So its a bike that needs running in... the only thing I could fault were the mirrors, foot pegs just fine for me. Cheers...
@Tonyv1951
@Tonyv1951 3 жыл бұрын
"Vibrated badly over 55." "0 miles on it". This is why no one should buy one of these that has been a demonstrator. These have to stay below 40 miles an hour until they have covered 300 miles. This is old school engineering. No Nickasil coatings on the bores like Honda (Nickel Silicon Carbide). Just an iron liner with tool marks that needs to be polished.

Put a rubber mounting behind the exhaust mounts. This will reduce vibration by at least 50%.Also an after market air filter and pug will reduce it even further. Hope this helps!

If you want a retro bike that's modern buy a Triumph. This is the Only pure 50's bike that you can buy new. It vibrates because that's what old big capacity singles do. You need to come at this bike from a very different review point if you want to understand what the bike is. They're not the same as every other new bike out there. RE needs to do nothing to them nor will they as they are no longer produced due to emissions regs. Gorgeous machines.

You shouldn't bad mouth it for the vibration when it hasn been run in yet. I'm sure very few will use it as a scrambler , so normal boots should be able to shift gears ok.

Thank you for the test, however I often thing that before these reviews, the tester should tell us what kind of bike he usually rides, this would give us a better prospective of his or her opinion of the bike being tested.

It's basically a Classic 500, I'm looking at buying a 2020 model with 1,000 k's to put the engine in my 2020 Classic 500 that's done 6,000 k's and it has a bad crank. My thinking is swapping the engine over would be a much quicker and a much cheaper option to having my engine repaired.

It is a 1950s bike, disk brakes, abs, cat and injection are all there, because they have to be there. This bike has no rivals its is a rare classic bike you can buy new. not a modern bike made to look retro.

24 miles lol you should not be going over 50 ...no wonder it vibrates its been ridden by testers with no break in ....you want a new bike that looks 75yr old ..why would you want tachs/ fuel gauge and self canceling indicators and gear indicators etc etc... then the bike would not look 75 yrs old...they should come with old school heel /toe shift like in india..u want a bike that looks old but ,has fairly modern reliability but still looks old R.E is the bike ...u want smooth speed and gadgets buy a honda

My Honda scooter is a 300 single smooth as butter from day one. Modern single cylinder engines don't have to vibrate. If Triumph was making this today they would get crucified.

Modern singles all have balancer shafts to counter the vibration - that's why they are smooth. Being 'Old school' the Enfield singles don't have balance shafts - these bikes are heavy enough already without adding extra lumps of metal inside the engine....

I think you have missed the point of what this bike is about. It is an old school classic mainly bought by old guys like me who are about seventy. We cut our teeth on old thumpers with a big single piston made of iron walloping up and down. They were built in the 1950s in the main and had been ridden to work for two decades by the British working man when we bought them for £15 or £20 in the late sixties. I have modern bikes but am still yearning for an old banger like I started out on. I rode about 7000 miles last year.
