I had the PS Audio Pre-amp and Phono stage amp at one time and I have to say, they were the best sounding amps I have ever owned. And I've owned quite a few. In fact, I'd give anything if I could find a set again. This time I will NOT get rid of them. Great work, Paul.

@magicmulder
@magicmulder 3 жыл бұрын
@@utub1473 Today, from a sensible point of view, the B&W 800 D3. If it's got to be big because your living room is the size of a small stadium, Backes & Müller BM 80 or 100, or Focal Grande Utopia. Even back in the day, other giants like the Fischer Audio Pegasus had better reviews (I only got a chance to listen to the smaller Anthaeus).

I'd love to hear that system. Back in 1989 I got to hear a system based on IRS Betas. It was quite an experience. The servo towers have great bass that is never overpowering and very much in control and can produce that "in the air" feeling you get when playing a huge pipe organ! Love it!

Great room. I remember hearing these in the a Toronto hifi shop back in the 80s. A couple of us heard Pink Floyd coming from the back of store. They were blasting it on this Infinity system. Once we stepped into the back, smoke came out of the amps and that was it. On a side note, you're using the chairs I always wanted in my listening room. I eventually got one but removed it quickly. The reason is, and I'm surprised more people don't know this, but the high leather headrest creates reflection that change the sound. As does a baseball cap or heavy clothing around your head. That's my experience. Love your channel Paul!

In 1983 I owned the reduced size RS-1 Improveds, with seven EMIMs, 4 EMITs, and six 8 inch subs per side. In my room, at least double the width and four times the length of yours, the sound was good. The low bass was the best I've ever heard (thank goodness the speakers were on a concrete slab). But when I moved to an apartment, not so great. I completely rewired my speakers, and am surprised you have not done that. The Monster Cable wire they came with is marginal, to say the least. But I am sure they sound good!

Paul, You covered everything in Music Room 1, except the components! Show us each one, and tell us something about it, such as how it may be connected, what cables, why; how everything switches on; etc. For a component manufacturer to gloss over his components is quizzical. However, I love the fact that your turntable shelf is covered in CD boxes! A man after my own digital ears!

Back in my audiophile days (mid-eighties), I auditioned a lot of high end stuff... Infinity, Polk, Magnepan, Thiel, Paradigm, Warfdale, B&W, Klipsch, and I never heard anything that impressed me as much as Vandersteen. Vandersteens don't sound like most other speakers, and a lot of people don't like their sound, but I never found a speaker that was less fatiguing. Loud, high dynamic range, killer bass is all great, but I'll gladly trade a lot of that for a speaker that is easy to listen to, that doesn't assault your ears after a few hours.
