This is also a big lightbulb moment for me, I have always been trying to get open. Once I understood that the arms lower and the pivot brings them around, my rotation is automatic

Trail side impact makes sense, never thought it that way. It was hard for me to get the club around and in front of my trail leg even as a 4 handicap. I added right side bend to this equation and it all came together since I needed a trigger because the golf swing is only about 1 second. Thank you, best video I've seen out there in the ether.

This has to be one of your best videos yet. Great explanation of the relationship and contributions of the arms and the body to achieve the best results. Like most of us i thought the hands were much further advanced that you showed, at impact. As you say, just an illusion from the 2d front on camera angle.

I've been a long time fan of Pete Cowan, and this jives identically at what he teaches, along with loading the shoulders and putting pressure into the ground to generate power when you rotate correctly. It was game changing for me when I understood his approach and how much noise there was in my previous swing and how simple a good swing really is (but very hard to understand and produce). One other thing that you didn't talk about (but I think was instrumental in helping me visualize it correctly) is the position and flex of the right hand through the swing and how important it is in stabilizing the head through impact. Also, the split hand drill and cross-hand grip drill also really helped me get my club in the right spot on the downswing as it transitions into rotation.

Was in a pretty big slump and couldn't hit a good iron shot to save my life. Been watching your videos and they are all so comprehensive and you are never contradicting yourselves. Especially the videos about shallowing and releasing the wrist angles have made my iron game so much better, I was always thinking i had to keep the full lag-angle in my wrist and never release them which only made me mess up, as well as making it harder for myself. Getting that natural release is amazing, I loved the drill with doing the "quarter follow through", lifting the right heel, then pressing back and swinging back. I combined that with the drill where you only swing through with the left arm to let the club shallow naturally. BIG THANK YOU!

What a great video. The segment at 11 minutes is like a super medicine--it cures so many things, Better balance, better hand path, better finish, better compression. Took 2 or 3 swings to get into this position the right way and after that the results were great. I stopped feeling so awkward at the end of the swing and the ball flight was not too high and not too low and really ripped. Very nice work--thanks.

Your videos have helped me immensely, thanks guys. As an older golfer I have limited movement in the lead shoulder so at the top of my backswing my shoulders are fully rotated but the left arm can't pull tight across my chest (adduction) resulting in being half way through shallowing at the start of the downswing. Would like to see something on how to sequence the downswing with an incomplete back swing.

Guys, this is by far the best and most all encompassing tutoring I have come across! When you talk about the issues that emerge when we follow this 'myth' of shaft lean you are literally describing me! I have just won my match today using exactly the ideas you are proposing in this and other videos. I have particularly benefitted from this video because it has helped me to stop flicking and swishing at the ball in an attempt to get to the 'right' position! Before I saw this video my shots were going dead straight, but 30 degrees left! Today I had lots of pars and two birdies by simply putting this teaching into action. And you are right by the way, the right way to do it is easier than the wrong way that so many teachers are suggesting. Thanks again, if there is any more teaching you are doing, please sign me up!

Great video! Really helped me out as it connected the final pieces. When I first learned of the arm swing myth, it was about the backswing. I was able to conceptualize the arm swing in the downswing, but I didn't understand the swing from p6 to p7 because my clubhead would be a foot or so behind the ball. I also didn't comprehend the 'crossover' into the follow thru. Now I do and I've been able to connect the dots better with my pivot and pressure shifts. I do have a question of what the arm swing looks like if you were to take the turn out of the golfer from p6 to p7 as the hand path goes upward. I can't quite wrap my head around it. I also have a question with regards to the arm swing in the backswing and downswing...for tour pros. is the body pivoting at a faster rate than the arms are raising and lowering? Thanks in advance.

I was going to say this video is pure gold, I think I would go a step higher and say platinum... As it pertains to my swing, and what I've said over at the shallowing video, what Shaun said about the arms basically being finished coming down and then adding the pivot to bring them and the club around, I cannot believe how true that is. I think so many of us have been led to believe otherwise, especially in search of the holy grail of shaft lean. The Gears and 3D data are literally the best thing to happen in regards to understanding a proper golf swing, and what the best pros do. I am so thankful you guys have access to this and can break it down for us. 🏆👍

The video, finally, that is most needed for all golfers everywhere. Wonderful! However, i would add one thing. We don't let the club swing, but instead we accelerate the clubhead to and through impact. This is done with a power rotation of the upper arm bones, such that the right hand gets squarely on the back of the shaft, and it feels like the right hand holds the handle in the palm and gives support to the shaft at impact. The golf club passes over the hands as they describe, which enhances the upper arm bone rotation, a power rotation. This results in the classic wrist, hand postion at impact that is seen in pro swings. A feel would be that the hands flip over in front of the right thigh, and this puts the hands and wrists in the correct position when the clubface catches the golf ball.

Very, very interesting and educational. Since I started implementing the idea of moving the arms and hands down and away from the ball, I've realised that I have to rotate my body to like "pull" the club towards the ball. This creates this great feeling of "unwinding" the energy of club head and started to produce some crazy speed without effort. This is my problem now. I used to hit my 8i around 140y-145y carry. My irons have modern aggressive lofts. But sometimes, if I remember to do it "your way", it suddenly goes 175y carry. It is a bit of a problem, I started overshooting greens with approach shot...
