Very early on in the battle, both sides realized that the terrain at Shiloh was going to make for a difficult conflict. General Parker Hills details the intriguing action between Confederate forces under Brigadier General Adley H. Gladden and Union forces under Col. David Stuart. #ShilohBattlefieldTour

The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

Thank you: I've never had the foggiest understanding of any battle until I saw the battlefield.

Huzzah to the 1st MN Battery under Emil Munch!!! They were also engaged in Corinth, Vicksburg, and Sherman Atlanta Campaign till end of the war. Recruits came from an area not far from my hometown in MN. One of the cities was New Ulm which is home also to the New Ulm Battery, the longest active militia battery still in service. Formed in 1863 in defense after the 1862 Sioux Uprising. I had the distinction of serving with the battery for a number of years when I was younger. Thanks always to Garry, Chris and Kris and all the wonderful guests you had on your trip!

“Creating better citizens in the meantime.” Well said. The general state of decay in our country is directly related to a lack of knowledge of our history among the average American. I appreciate what y’all do. Incidentally, my 2nd Great Grandfather, John Henry Coker, and his brother Albert both fought at Shiloh in the 3rd Mississippi Battalion under Aaron B. Hardcastle. I take friends and family there every spring and we walk in his footsteps as we follow the route of Wood’s brigade through the battle. Thanks again!

At 8:00 - These were the same reasons that it was so vital to restore the battlefield at Gettysburg with tree removal, building removal, etc.

does anyone know what the plans are for overgrown fields on the battlefield (such as Lost Field, which is completely wooded now)? will they ever clear those fields and restore field dimensions (such as the southern portion of Rhea Field)?

It would be nice if you invested into body microphones so that we can understand what is being said off-camera.

Thank you for a wonderful time watching...and good to see Woody Allen working again...though that's not a moral endorsement...just a smart arsed observation 😐

Another good reason to purchase more acres is to create a larger buffer against development.

I love these videos but I find it gets boring with all the maps. I rather see the place where the battle was than the map.
