Some clips from a visit to the Detroit Land Bank december 2014 open houses in the Boston Edison Historic District. They need a ton of work, and are surrounded by miles of blight, but have the historic character worthy of restoration.

you need a 24hr security guard there just to renovate

notso fast............. and your security guard will be selling your stuff out the back door quicker than it came in the front..............and if you need a security while renovated who will protect you when jobs complete and you move in with your possessions and family?......police wont.

Unfortunately, here in the colonies, we don't appreciate history the way you folks in the UK do. We just tend to abandon or tear down then move on to new.

Its beautiful and people go out side they ride a bike, they don't get shot its really decent for Detroit. The problem is 2 blocks away you will get murdered for a dollar. Detroit is getting a lot better but its because housing prices are going way up and the people moving in seem to have a bit lighter skin then the population being displaced.

What I seen was nice. I’ve been through Boston Edison a lot. But you mainly filmed floors and walls and I have no clue what the house inside really looks like

Detroit gets a bad rep! I lived there and its only certain areas, Detroit is beautiful!

This is what I would be doing if I had just enough money and a reliable team of workers and certified specialists. Some remind me of the Fabulous homes I rented in So. CA. in the 1970's. Two specifically were carefully maintained in original early 1920's-30's condition. Except for the gas stove being restored and slightly modified in one . . . The owner of one of them set up an architectural selvedge company when he retired. Wood work, tile, fireplace mantles, vintage plumbing fixtures, ECT.

What does Detroit's economic future look like? Since the 50s there's been efforts to save the city and they have all failed. If there's no big, non-trendy industries coming in I can't see the sense.

Increasing the population of Detroit is the only real solution because a city designed for 2 million can't survive with 700 thousand; but it won't happen overnight.
