With the hill country getting all the attention it’s nice to see east Texas getting a little. While a lot of areas are just oceans of bland corporate pine plantations there are still some beautiful naturally wooded forest areas and nice friendly small towns.

Hello,. I live in. Woodville Texas & go to the Heritage Village to eat all the time. Don't forget about the Picket House, serving home cooked foods family style. Yes a very good place for family fun. Very educational for learning the past way of living in. E. Tex.

My father was a cotton farmer outside Lubbbock back in 50s&60s when I was 9 in 1964 he became a preacher and his first church was a country church in east Texas I had never seen so many trees and creeks in my short life Still love east Texas to this day

You did such a nice job of showing Heritage Village. And included the beautiful library, too. The food at the picket House is delicious -always a great place to stop when you’re hankering for some crispy fried chicken, mashed taters, and peach cobbler.

I'm rolling up on 65 years old now and clearly remember my grandparents taking me along with my brothers there some 55 years ago . It's expanded over the years but still had plenty for our little minds to soak in. What an adventure.

The Pickett House Restaurant is the best thing there. Fried chicken and Chicken n dumplings is the best main course ever.

I visited another Heritage Village near Dennison Texas with my wife earlier this month. We loved it.

I would love to visit this place. I love historical sites. Fort Concho, Fort Davis, and Fort Gibson (Oklahoma) are my main visits, as well as Silver Dollar City.

Eat at the Picket House. You won't be disappointed. Chicken and dumplings. Fram raised vegetables. They used to serve sassafras tea but sadly had ti quit serving it. It made your heart race.

Went hiking around the area earlier this year and like you mentioned there are such a variety of different trees there. Over off the Kirby Nature Trail there is a whole little grove of those magnolia trees I came across. I had to sit down and have a snack under them before continuing. The big thicket area of Texas has so many little treasures tucked off in the woods

I've been through Woodville hundreds of times and never knew about any of this stuff. Next time I go through there I will have to stop and visit some of these old houses. Thanks for sharing!

Cool looking place

My family used to go to The Picket House in the early 70's when I was a little boy. In 2002 my wife and I toured Heritage Village.

The restaurant is awesome also, they dress like old times, have shareable tables and serve food in family bowls! But sadly they have resorted to instant potatoes. They always serve good fried chicken and awesome cobbler.❤
