I saw Ronnie in 76, and he's always played with the same passion, and natural ability. Apples are for shredding, not guitar solos. Real guitarists like Ronnie don't shred. They play through the notes with all the feel, tension, and even rests, in the right places. They take you to places. RIP, Sir. Thank you for sharing! : )

Saw Ronnie perform this song at a small club in SF. Had front row seats & while deep into the song, my wife had her legs propped up on the stage, he hadn’t even noticed that he was standing on wifey’s pant cuff. She was mesmerized & will never forget it. RIP Ronnie 🥲

If anybody out there is curious, Town Without Pity was the theme song to a movie of the same name. Made in the early 60's, it is the story of the rape of a German girl by occupying US soldiers, and the condemnation of the girl by the town. The original song was sung by Gene Pitney. It sounds like an early 60's lounge song.

this is great for live, but nothing beats the studio version of this tune off of "Open Fire" with Edgar Winter on piano...such amazing track production and with the orchestration...reminds me so much of the theme from Perry Mason...love those dark half-diminished and b5 chords...so good.

All in all not a bad mix considering it was either the front of house feed or the mic on the camcorder that did the recording. I was Ronnie’s road manager and front of house engineer on his Open Fire tour. Warmest regards to the Montrose family and rest in peace Ronnie 🙏🏼

The board mix turned out to be drums only and the sound guy couldn't/wouldn't fix it so the mix is that plus the onboard video from the center camera which was stereo. It was the best we could do to make it listenable!!

Who played bass and second keyboard for Ronnie on his Open Fire Tour. So far we've got Ronnie, Jim Alcivar moog synthesizer/piano/keyboard, Steve Smith drums....need bass player cuz it don't look like Fitz, too heavy, too much hair on top. And that second keyboardist is even more of a mystery man.

Went to see Humble Pie in maybe 72 or 73. The openers were Montrose and Spooky Tooth. The Pie was one of my faves and I had heard a little bit of Spooky Tooth but man when Montrose came on I was blown away! They played pretty much the first album which I bought immediately, The dude was a monster and definitely pointing the way to the future! The singer… well , we got turned on to two greats that night Sammy was way impressive,which is pretty hard to do when Steve Marriott is getting ready to come out and continue to be one of the greatest rock singers ever. Anyway loved Montrose, miss those days when you had no idea who the opener was and then you’re blown away and got lots of new people to follow!

Yeah but he was a great guitarist in his own right
@dylanchangedeverythingfore13123 жыл бұрын
He copped more than Ronnie's riffs!!! Gary Moore is a >POS< who Ronnie discovered was in possession of a guitar of Ronnie's stolen from the stage in 1972 when Ronnie was with Edgar Winter Group. Ronnie recognized it from a Guitar Magazine cover, did some detective work + found that Moore had had it worked on in a guitar shop and the serial numbers matched, and a couple of custom modifications identified with Ronnie, including a relocation of the guitar strap nut proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Ronnie attempted to contact Gary Moore several times and got no response. Gary Moore never traveled with that guitar again cuz he knew he was in possession of Ronnie's guitar. The guitar was worth at least $200,000... others put the value of Ronnie's stolen guitar as closer to $400,000.

Bart's comment above from 4 months ago spoke with another videographer at that NAMM show...the sound from the soundboard was only getting the drums in the mix and the sound guy was unable to fix it the main sound came from a camcorder. They tried to combine the two mixes and considering it was mostly recorded on a stereo camcorder the sound is pretty darn good for the technology camcorders had back then 15-20 years ago or more
