Tourists experience the power of the Peyote cactus in Mexico - Daily Mail

The number of tourists who visit a town in north Mexico to take peyote, a cactus used in rituals for around 5,000 years, has doubled in five years. But for many expecting a good trip as part of a journey to 'find themselves', it can instead be a nightmare as they misjudge the power of the drug. When MailOnline witnessed a ritual (top right), Diana Prabhu, 22, disappeared into the darkness only to be found literally hugging a tree - then screaming hysterically when she was convinced she had gone blind (main and bottom right). And one shaman described how a French tourist was found to be trying to eat his own arm.

I just got back from a small town in San Luis Potosí. Yes, you can eat the buttons. It took me about 2 hours to eat a little more than three (eat slowly - you don't want to throw up) and the experience was quite pleasant. Deep, meditative experience and intense dreams. I think it's like talking to your subconscious, or being in a dream state but directing the dream with thoughts and words - not symbols.

Peyote knows who are the offenders, who are ill, disingenuous, or insincere. The Brujo should have warned these tourist's, this isn't for kicks. But they would have come anyway. So educating them could go either way. 🤔

Just bc he's not brown or darker doesn't mean he's no longer indigenous, remember not all native Americans are brown, some can have pale skin or if they're mixed then tan

Peyote has to be cooked. 10-15 hours. Only the Buttons, right? then let the brew rest for 1 day. So it is not meant to be eaten like an apple...

Eating the buttons is totally ok!! I have been to San Luis Potosi desert many many times. I always first night ate the fresh buttons and then cooked a tea for the next 2 nights . I would put the tea into cold apple juice!! Both methods were very very rewarding (3 friends and myself 10 or more buttons each every night time) Many times we met and talked to the Huichol Indians that were on their spirit trail. One evening they invited us into the tent and allowed us to experience the ritual). I have 21 small peyotes growing in my apartment.

@@bullhunter45 how to make a tea with peyote? And can a single one make you all trippy?
@bullhunter45
@bullhunter45 4 жыл бұрын
@@Son_of_aesthetics Hello! I don't feel that one button will make you feel trippy. Try 3 and this should get you going pretty well. First time I ate peyote was at the U of A in Arizona 1970 and a friend had gotten some fresh ones from south eastern Texas. I ate 3 and it was really pleasant and still allowed me to walk around a bit and enjoy them. Above 5 will keep you in one place for awhile while you enjoy your voyage. To make the tea grind them up, if they are dry, and then put them into boiling water and let them soft boil for about 4 hours no need to use a ton of water. Cool it down a bit and put it into cold apple juice. Tastes pretty decent!! Kick back and start drinking!! Don't forget that the mescaline takes up to 2 hours before it kicks in so be patient. Some of the other efforts are quite interesting. .

@@bullhunter45 Hi! Thanks for your reply! By any chance do you know how many buttons Aldous Huxley took for his doors of perception book? :D
@bullhunter45
@bullhunter45 4 жыл бұрын
@@Son_of_aesthetics As I understand,Huxley was using synthetic mescaline crystals and also synthetic mescaline. If you are a semi decent bio chemist, you can extract mescaline crystals from the peyote. In fact , the mescaline crystal is studied by all bio chemistry students as it forms the perfect crystal and throws off the most beautiful light!! I think Aldous Huxley was using 400 mg of synthetic mescaline for his trips. I.have used 500mg doses and it was comparable to about 7 medium peyotes . It was missing the little extra that peyote gives but very very clean indeed.
