When planning a vacation to Europe, some of the first destinations that come to mind will be the teeming cities of Paris, London or Rome. Each of these metropolises is incredible, but they are far from all that Europe has to offer. By exploring some of the small towns across the continent, it is possible to see a more authentic, traditional side to Europe. Here’s a look at the most beautiful medieval towns of Europe:

Good memories in Ronda with my son. I wanted to move there immediately. Mont San Michel visit was with a group. Interesting arrow slits in austere buildings. Toledo was seen traveling solo. The river and countryside are pretty. TY for your list.😊👍

And India has nice buildings too. The problem is that the british invaded, conquered, facilitated the creation of slums and stole too much indian wealth, And that´s a problem in the entiere places that were colonised by europeans and the arabs..

Joemontana G Europe is certainly the best place to live on earth. If you value human rights, standard of living, workers rights, food quality, personal safety, everything. The cities are living museums full of art and sculptures and amazing architecture. Europe sets the standard for quality in everything. Other places are great too but mostly all Europe is another level compared to the rest of the world. Whatever Europe does usually the rest of the world tries to do the same.

@@HollandPhotography1 "Most beautiful" is a very subjective term. I grew up in Doesburg in the Netherlands, a beautiful Medieval city (almost 800 years ago it received its city rights), which could definitely be on this list. But there are so many beautiful medieval cities in Europe. The ones in the video above are the most famous, but not necessarily the most beautiful. You can expect lots of tourists in each of the examples in the video.

The earliest signs of a process leading to sedentary culture can be seen in the Levant to as early as 12,000 BC, when the Natufian culture became sedentary; it evolved into an agricultural society by 10,000 BC.[9] The importance of water to safeguard an abundant and stable food supply, due to favourable conditions for hunting, fishing and gathering resources including cereals, provided an initial wide spectrum economy that triggered the creation of permanent villages.[10] The earliest proto-urban settlements with several thousand inhabitants emerged in the Neolithic. The first cities to house several tens of thousands were Memphis and Uruk, by the 31st century BC (see Historical urban community sizes). Historic times are marked apart from prehistoric times when "records of the past begin to be kept for the benefit of future generations";[11] which may be in written or oral form. If the rise of civilization is taken to coincide with the development of writing out of proto-writing, the Near Eastern Chalcolithic, the transitional period between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age during the 4th millennium BC, and the development of proto-writing in Harappa in the Indus Valley of South Asia around 3300 BC are the earliest incidences, followed by Chinese proto-writing evolving into the oracle bone script, and again by the emergence of Mesoamerican writing systems from about 900 BC.

I am also really surprised not to see the castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork Poland which is the largest medieval castle in the world measured by land area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Poland also has well-preserved medieval towns of Torun, Frombork, not to mention bigger cities like Krakow, Wroclaw or Gdansk.

There are many many towns that could be on this list and that could replace any of the excising ones. Sighișoara in Romania, Chester in England, Lucca in Italy, Visby on the Swedish island of Gotland. The list could probably be a thousand cities long but Sienna is however a good choice for number one for its size, it’s accessibility and it’s touristy properties. For the best preserved I would go for Sighișoara. Hands down.

Just check the medieval castle villages built by the Genovese in the Greek island of Chios. Check the villages of Mesta, Pyrgi, Olympoi, Vessa, Kalamoti and many more which are still resided and if you have the chance to travel there you will feel like you travel back in time. Amazing experience!

I have visited the beautiful island of Chios some years ago, and I have been to the village of Pyrgi. And also one abandoned and delapidated village at the mountain top with a monastery nearby. It was an eerie experience and very very beutiful one, too! The tragic history of the people there, as well. Unfortunately I have forgotten the name of the abandoned mountain village.

These guys never heard of Sighisoara, Bucuresti, Timisoara, Sibiu, Deva, Alba Iulia, Iasi, Cluj Napoca, Bran, Constanta just to quickly name a dozen from Romania. Nevermind, Florence, Salzburg, Paris, Viena, Barcelona, Avignon and indeed thousands of others such beautiful places in every corner of Europe. A few of my own favourite towns and cities are Maastricht (my own town!), Monschau, and Nideggen, Bolzano, Perugia, Freiburg, Ancona, Florence (obviously), Zadar, Innsbruck, Rovereto, Merano, Rhodes, Den Bosch... there's just so much to see in my continent, I've really gained a lot of appreciation for traveling around Europe even after seeing a lot of the world. Traveling far has its merits for sure, but there is so much to see in Europe you couldn't do it in a lifetime.. and a lot more sustainable to travel locally by train, bus and ferry if you live here :)

@ewoudalliet1734
@ewoudalliet1734 3 жыл бұрын
@@markoshea6833 How does that work? If we didn't respect eachothers differences, there'd be mass separatism within the EU. Catalans want independence from Spain because they feel they are culturally and linguistically different (as well as economic reasons); same for Galicia, Basque; and Flanders where I'm from, where the Flemish have to learn French, yet the Walloons don't - and many other inequalities due to lingual differences like an unequal voting system. Trust me I grew up in that type of environment, I know how it works. Even more, I don't feel like Belgium is a state that should exist, yet I'm pro-European. If you don't respect Europe's diversity, the people of Europe won't respect you; try to then keep them all together. Within the EU it is of utmost importance to preserve European heritage, which includes lingual and cultural diversity. "Historically" these differences weren't always respected, but the historical climate was also completely different.
