We start with our incredibly popular Entertainer violin which sounds surprisingly warm, and powerful at such an affordable price, and we install the Wittner Geared Pegs, which behave like guitar pegs. Their 8:1 turning ratio makes the pegs a breeze to use. No more slipping, squeaking, forcefully pushing and turning, and no more awkwardly pushing the scroll into your knee, while trying to tune!
We go the extra step to install finger marker tapes, so that you can see where to place your fingers for the best intonation. No more waiting around for a teacher to hopefully help you out with this, you'll be playing right out of the box!

The Fiddlershop installed the Wittner geared pegs on my Red Mendelssohn. It's the only way to go and join the 21st Century.

I’ve got them on both of my violins (including a soloist from fiddler shop) and my viola! Such amazing pegs! Hopefully I’ll have them on a Red Mendelssohn one day 😂

Those Wittner Geared Pegs are a huge improvement over the friction pegs because they save the headstock from wearing out. Also they make a stringing crank for these types of Pegs which makes restringing easier because now all you need to do is turn the handle.

I need to get that crank. Where ? the crank for my banjo and mandolin pegs don't fit the Wittners, and that 8:1 ratio requires a lot of turning when changing strings.

Using the Wittner FineTune pegs is brilliant. I have them on my violin, viola and cello and I love them.

Hi Kehran, I put the Perfection geared pegs on my violins, violas, and cello. My Mezzo Forte EVO violin has Wittner geared pegs. Perfection pegs have a 4:1 ratio while the Wittner have an 8:1 ratio. With geared pegs one doesn't need to have fine turners which lightens the tailpiece for improved sound quality. Tuning with geared pegs is a godsend for easy tuning. IMO all student violins should have geared pegs. Violin teachers will appreciate the ability for students to easily keep their instruments in tune without needing 15 minutes of a lesson to tune with traditional pegs.

Must one first pull out the peg to engage the gears then, when tuned, put it back in to lock the tuning? In other words, if tuning with the peg in the locked position, will it harm the internal gears to turn with the end pushed in?

Nope, the Wittner pegs are just "turn and go." The Perfection Planetary pegs do have this feature though, where they stay put better when they are pushed in.
