I've always loved Kenny Vaughan. I was playing a festival and Marty Stuart's band was on the bill. Kenny came over during soundcheck, said some nice things about my playing. Me, Kenny and my bass player hung out a good part of the evening talkin about William Burroughs and telecaster neck pickups, you know all this stuff cool kids are in to. He's a national treasure and a excellent hang. Keep up the good work Otis.

Man my heart sank when you said Gillian and David at the Ryman. I can't imagine how great that would have been. I'm starting to reach an age where I'm realizing that I might not get to do all these things that I thought I would one day. I can't seem to get to Nashville for a pleasure trip and it seems like everyday a little bit more of what I want to visit is gone anyway.

Hey Otis, David and Gillian would do sets at a very small club in Bloomington. They were here for a while recording. They would bring in song books like Beatles, Neil Young, Dylan ect. 1 artist a night. They’d have the crowd call out a page number and they’d go to that page and play whatever song it was. Incredible. Saw Gillian first time at First Christian Church during the Lotus Fest. Fab. Ryman was a venue on my bucket list. Mark Knopfler was the show. Really loved the venue and the show. Saw David with The Machine at The Bird and great too. He is such a cool player. He makes that old Epi Olympic sing.

Blessed to have such a wealth of things going on, but it is a shame I won’t be able to come say hi. I’ve seen him play a couple of times and it’s always exceptional stuff. Have a great time.

I jumped when you mentioned going up into the rafters at the Ryman, Otis! I did the same. One of the three times I played there, we had the big dressing room upstairs. I saw a door and opened it and there was a ladder going up. I climbed up there and saw the par 64 lights they point at the stained glass so the windows are illuminated at night. I took a few photos up there. I also had the parallel choices between Austin and Nashville when leaving Sacramento for greener pastures.

I'm at the Super Duty truck plant in Louisville when I watch your videos...as time permits. Always enjoy them and your even keel demeanor...really enjoyed the "badass Willie stories" video yesterday, glad you included the excerpt from reading in his book. Town For Sale for some reason made me think of Dwight's lesser known song Home For Sale - which is a great song. No Columbus for me today, but if you or your pals are ever near Louisville - would be great to meet up or see a good show. Thanks for informing and providing us with your videos - much appreciated!

All songwriters, perhaps all writers of any type, like cloudy overcast days, don't they? I do. Makes the coffee taste better, and that blank page staring back at you looks more like a warm blanket. And there's always the option of running a John Prine Illegal Smile play from the songwriters' playbook.

First, I am tickled that you and Todd Fox are getting in a car and going somewhere together. Sounds like a much needed Otis and Todd road trip. 2nd, why in the world would Hank Williams and Townes not be 2/3rds of your trilogy? :) I live in Omaha. If you’d give me a little more warning, I’d be at a Peter Case show tonight in Ohio and I would definitely talk to you when he wasn’t playing. My family and I spread my sister in law’s ashes this morning and I kept thinking of how floored you were to find out your lyrics to “Bury Me on Rainy Day” were on a tombstone in Europe. That has to be an equivalent to one of those little gold statues to a guy like Otis. It’s a perfect song to say good bye to a loved one to. Thank you for writing it and performing it so honestly! I thought of it for the whole service this morning. Otis Gibbs/Todd Fox 2024!!!

Happy Saturday, Otis! I don't remember when I first heard Gillian Welch and David Rawlings... maybe it was The Revelator... probably "Everything is Free", though it could be earlier. They are on a playlist on a fairly regular rotation in my world. So good. There are a few ghost towns over in Oregon, and I've seen a few of the old stage stop towns come up for sale over the years. Wide spots in along the highway that still have some remnants of another time. Good videos all this week. I'm going to have to set aside some time to get through the Willie stories. Keep doing what you do, it is appreciated. Be good to you 🤍💛🙏🏻

Hey Otis, First time text... How about Revrend Otis! Board of Director's for the O'le Hippie's home with 2 show's per day. Who the hell can afford to go to a concert these day's??! I have a good friend who's packing right now for Merl fest. You know what that co$t$ now. l'm certain you do. Hell! I can't even pay attention any more! I stay home and listen or play along if l feel it rite. I'm in my 60's now and do not get out any more. Plus, l hate being the oldest guy in the place. But... l used to be a bouncer and door man at the local blue's bar in my little town. Ever hear of Hickory N.C.? It's 50 miles from Charlotte. Got lucky and met several pro guitarist like Lonnie Mack and John Hamond and Bob Margolin. Some killer blue'smen who've all but a few passed on. It's a shame what time will do to a guy or gal. Were all"but a breath away"even on our best day. Glad l left a comment. I been watching for a good bit. You comment on thing's of my generation without all that flashsy loud BS. Yes jr. Iess is more in most case's. I can't belive you still fly??? Must be BIG$MONEY! Just kiddin'. You do earn and deserve your's too! All the best to you and your's sir!! Hey? Would you consider intervjewing Bob Marolin? or Revrend Billy Wirtz? That would be some wild stuff. Or mabey Jimmy Thackery too. He was a monster on a teley! Keep doin' what your doin'. I really enjoy the interview's with Kenny Vaughn. I did'nt realize just how much l liked his sound till recent. He's got some mud on him... keep up the good work

Always appreciate your familiarity with UK indie music names. The big take away from punk was the proliferation of independent record labels, delivering a great alternative to the mainstream. Helping to run a second hand record shop (mid 80s to early 90s), I used to make regular visits to a distributor of various indie labels, especially for reggae and dub. Sometime in 87, after picking up the usual assortment I notice TVZ's "Through My Window", no idea who or what, but buy half dozen vinyls and one CD, on the strength of the cover alone. Next day in the shop I get round to putting the CD on. Before the CD has finished I've gone through the same routine six times - "Who's that you're playing? Isn't he in Springsteen's band/Lynn Skyn? How much? Gissit!" Sold the CD later in the day. Week later back to the warehouse for a restock, but the shelf's bare. When I ask if they intend a restock there's a tale of woe as another distributor had picked up the label, AFTER they had got TVZ to the UK to promote the album. Used to the antics of indie and punk bands during promo tours was apparently no training to dealing with TVZ touring small venues in England! Good on you for talking up Billy Bragg, like you he's genuine.

I'm not too far from Austin. You made the right choice. It was a great place to spend some time 20-30 years ago, but it's living on myth now. It has horrible big city issues now. The original charm is now only in myth and legend. Oh, and I really enjoy hearing the birds in the background. Make me wish I were there with my camera and binoculars.

I always wanted to find a big old building where I could put 30-50 small 2 room apartments around the outside walls of it. Then have a big common area, practice rooms, maybe a small studio, and a small stage/venue with maybe 150ish seats. All for guitar players struggling to improve and advance their careers. I would charge just enough to cover expenses and feed everybody. LOL I still look when I see a warehouse or something for sale. I'm getting kind of old to start that now, but I think it could be a real cool place. Maybe for retired guitar players too! LOL Peace -gary

Enjoy the channel and watch regularly (just ordered a cool looking T-shirt, too...). Anyway, total long shot and hopefully not out of line, but if you are ever around Austin, TX and have any way to hook up with Mike Barfield and/or Johnny Moeller, that would be some great content. The Tyrant of Texas Funk (Barfield) seems like he'd be right up your alley and those guys, along with a tight rhythm section, put on a fantastic show. I'm in FL and have no other connection to them other than I was lucky enough to catch them at C-Boy's when I was in Austin a couple of months ago. Followed up by reading a bit on them when I got home. Lifers...probably a treasure trove of cool stories. Anyway, all the best...enjoy the weekend.
