3 days of watching you chip has inspired me to hack into a ligustrum rotundifolium to cloud prune it. 1/2 today 1/2 tomorrow and it’s going well. Next thing I’m going to get a wee scratchy rake like yours to deal with the root ball. Usually I’m scared to touch them. Thank you

it's so cool that you already have perfect plants for your new project. I imagine it dampens the blow from leaving your old garden. I wonder how Spud will feel about becoming a city girl?

Hi Jlanvers & thank you for your message 🤠 yes it really helps having my potted plants to take with me when I move & it makes things much easier for me & saves a lot of money too 👍🏼 Spud hopefully will be ok as she spent a year living here around 8 years ago , so fingers crossed she will settle in to Town life 👍🏼 have yourself a lovely week & all the best 🌱 Chip

I have a similar small terraced type space in my back garden and I planted 6 box plants last Autumn in front of the retaining wall and was planning on letting it grow into a small hedge but now I've seen how nice the balls are I'm giving serious consideration to shaping them up and making it a more formal space. (although the rest of it is all flowery with a little lawn). Love it though, so good.

I put in a hedge of boxwoods and they took so long to join up, they were nearly there and then we moved. I drove by after, and the owners had made a row of little balls and I loved that too. It does make you think. I've just planted a "parterre" and if I can't wait for ten years again, maybe I should think about balls again! 💚🌳

Oh Chip this to me is perfection!! You are a fabulous garden designer, the boxwoods look beautiful and so green and healthy. I’m a sucker for formality and I would not change one single thing. Wonderful! If I were going to paint the wood I think I’d choose black. Are you going to plant the front left border? As you say, “marvellous”. Have a great week ❤

Hi Janette & thank you for your lovely message 🤠 I was thinking the same thing on the colour but I may do a couple of colour sample test squares just to make sure 👍🏼 I will be planting the lower bed but I keep changing my mind on what to plant as I want it to look green all year round, hopefully I will make a decision soon lol 😂 have a lovely day in the garden 🌱 Chip

Hi Chip. Just curious as to wether you have had any problems with box tree caterpillars? All my hedges and balls are being eaten away rather rapidly. I have picked as many as I can see off yet they just keep on re appearing. I see that box hedging and topiary is becoming harder and harder to have as disease and pests are becoming so common. Cheers mate 👍🏻

Hi Chris thank you for your message & so sorry to hear about your boxwood problem I myself have not had any problems with the wretched caterpillars yet , fingers crossed 🤞 unfortunately all I know is to do exactly what your doing which is to keep picking them off.. hope you win the battle 👍🏼 all the best & have yourself a beautiful day 🌱 Chip
