Emy Koopman investigates the equality struggle between men and women in Canada. With a self-proclaimed feminist prime minister, a cabinet full of female ministers, and gender-neutral toilets everywhere, the country seems extraordinarily progressive.
But how is it possible that there have already been two attacks in Canada specifically against women? The 'Toronto of attack' in 2018 claimed the lives of ten people. The perpetrator claimed to belong to the 'incels', an online group of heavily frustrated men, who involuntarily run out of sex and blame women for it.
How can such misogyny flourish in Canada, and what is being done about it? Koopman joins male feminists in heels and female boxers, but also speaks self-help guru and psychology professor Jordan Peterson, who became known for his criticism of contemporary feminism. Is Canada polarising?

36:09 benefiting eh? - 99% deaths in war are men - 90% workplace deaths are men - 75% suicide deaths are men - 90% dangerous jobs are done by men - 60% more jail time for the same crime if you're a man - In a divorce, you are more likely to be forced to pay child support for a child that isn't even yours biologically - Hundreds of shelters for women suffering spousal abuse, but only a handful for men suffering violent abuse and sexual assault - Many countries force men into mandatory military service

So this is the second video by Emy about Canada that I have seen. I'm Canadian, I live in Toronto, and it is fascinating to me to see how a number of snippets forming a documentary does not even come close to giving you an idea on what life is actually like here. This is a very diverse and very complex society which varies from person to person and place to place. Something to remember as you watch these documentaries. I will also remenber when I watch documentaries about life elsewhere.

It’s very telling the narrator says her experience with men is her fear of getting killed and that’s how she grew up. Actually this kind of proves the point that a resentment of ALL men and masculinity stems from her bad experiences with some men. The irony of course is that feminists that do this (like the narrator) extrapolate a subjective experience and project it onto. ALL men, which is EXACTLY what they acuse the crazy women hating men of doing themselves. This is the problem: blaming all women or men for something that happened to you is as ridiculous as hating all dogs just because you ran into an aggressive pitbull once... Society is doomed, angry resentful idiots on ALL sides. The “patriarchy haters” sound as resentful to me as the incel guys that think it’s unfair they can’t get laid... what a mess 😂🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

I am American and I used to consider myself a feminist until it took on this very clear man-hating tone. Now I redirect my energy to men's rights because they are the main one's under attack. I'll keep fighting for equal opportunity (not outcome) for everyone, and white males are getting the worst treatment right now. There is so much evidence in psychology that vilifying the "bully" doesn't work. It just swings the mistreatment pendulum the other way. We need to talk to the bullies with compassion and help them see the other side.

I started adult life with no intention of having children. I was ready to be a strong woman out in the world making a difference. Then at about 25, my biological clock went off. Contrary to all of the people I was around, all my friends, and the ideological feminist bubble I was in, I wanted children more than anything else. Thankfully, I had an amazing husband and he conceded with some convincing on my part (he would have been fine if we never had children.) What followed has been almost two decades of a gradual journey where I realized that I was fundamentally happier when I was caring for my children and being a home schooling stay-at-home mom. Now that my children are about to enter the adult world themselves, I am excitedly considering what careers I will have and what I will do out in the world. But I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the best period of my life will be my "1950s housewife" period. It satisfied something at the deepest level of my psyche as a woman--to create, care for, and educate my children. In case my children do not decide to have one parent stay at home with the children (whether its their mom or dad), I have offered to do that for my grandchildren, as my many years of experience and graduate level research into child development has led me to understand that children fair much better if they are homeschooled and one parent is able to take on as a full-time job the psychological, educational, and emotional care of the children.

Misogyny and misandry stem from misantrophy, exactly like racism. And non of them are solved by pointing fingers at individuals who practice those currents of thinking and then generalize them as representatives of certain groups. You can teach at a young age to have respect for others. You can make preventive and mitigating laws to each problem. And the rest is just humanity at work.

It makes me sad that the abuse of boys by unfit abusive mothers is swept under the rug. This breeds angry men. Or fathers that were raised in abusive households. That is what they saw . The fact of the matter is abuse of all people needs to stop. Women are just as abusive as men. So, targeting one group over another will never solve the problem. Love. Love all kinds of people. Soft mannered people. "Masculine" people. Men can be "manly" without being abusive. If we show respect, dignity, and love to our children and neighbors we raise a well mentally nourished child. Then adult. Women are more versatile. We can raise children, create beauty, be soft and then go out and cut down a 30' tree with a chain saw while listening to a pod cast about how to replace the throttle on our street bike :) And my husband loves me, because its me. I have worked in automation engineering, water rescue, bank management and mom. I love being home with my kids raising them to explore their interests. But LOVE is #1 rule. All deserve respect. They deserve respect. My boys are happy being "manly" getting outside and being strong. But they also enjoy art, music and friends. But they would never be horrible to a girl/woman, because I teach them love. Love of ALL is the only way, even if you don't agree with everything they do. Love them and see the anger slowly melt away. We are not victims. And I refuse to introduce my brain with that negativity. I have been hit, I have been degraded, but so has my husband. Call the police. We are dealing with poorly raised children. And if you don't like what someone says, change their mind with your love.

You will immediately realize why what is saying is so immensely helpful and precious and cannot simply be described and dismissed by a dull and one-sided term such as "toxic masculinity". I don't think the resistance to a narrative of "The Oppressive Patriarchy" is understood, here. However useful the patriarchal lens is for viewing problems between men and women in our civilizations, at best it looks at *half* of the issue. Or, maybe, the documentary just presented the resistance to it sub-optimally? To be fair, those who need to resist it often can't explain it too well themselves. It's not simple resentment at some loss of power. I suspect the explanation is more about a lack of opportunities for me to do something deeply meaningful. I do appreciate that you've put out the entire Peterson Interview (not here, of course - but on KZfaq). JP does, I think, a good job articulating the legitimate criticisms of a tyrannic patriarchal narrative -- both how it's used for ill and how it fails to address what's actually going on between men and women.

Extremely bias. I think Jordan Peterson during your past interview with him absolutely destroyed your argument. Actually, he demonstrated your foolishness over and over again. I would been been greatly embarrassed. Thank you for being quiet and letting him talk. Great interview!!!!

34:46 "JBP obviously feels attacked by the idea that there is a systematic advantage to being male" For what it's worth, I don't get that vibe from him at all. He's well off financially and more than confident about his competence as a writer and a psychologist and as a man. People shouting "down with the patriarchy" is not enough to make a person in his position feel attacked. The stuff about chaos being feminine and order being masculine from his book 12 rules for life... I had a discussion with my sister about that maybe 4 years ago now. She had all the same misconceptions as the interviewer. Every point my sister had was a misrepresentation of his views, or at the very least me and her interpret his words very differently. Some people just want to see a "far-right anti-feminist" in him, but that notion has been put to rest beyond any doubt by the man himself through his work, interviews, books and presentations. So no, I don't think he feels attacked by the idea that there is no systemic advantage to being a man. You just want to paint a narrative, but you're presenting your feelings as objective observations. I consider that poor style for a journalist or a documentary film maker. Regardless, I'm enjoying the film so far. It's appreciated.

It's interesting how this is a documentary on toxic masculinity yet none of the men who participated in the making of this film display anything close to toxic behaviour, quite the opposite in fact. I wonder if that's intentional or if they just couldn't find any. Even the proud boys seemed like a very down to earth group of guys who just get together to have a few beers and shoot the shit. If anything this film demonstrates a complete lack of toxic, agressive male behaviour. Not saying there aren't any violent men, obviously, but they sure were nowhere to be seen during the making of this documentary.

@@gilesdemedts7986 I agree. I am confused why its called "toxic masculinity." Apart from a few negative comments against males made by the documentarian, I would almost think the documentary is saying that there isn't really toxic masculinity in Canada. Toxic masculinity would be guys sitting around talking about having sex with girls who were drunk or telling their sons to stop crying and acting like a baby and go out and get laid. Toxic femininity would be smothering children especially males and not allowing them to step out on their own in the world or doing "reputation assassination" on people they don't like or making the men in their life feel like they are oppressors when they are just wanting to be protectors.

23:08 "(paraphrasing) tough boys, sweet girls stereotypes can lead to men being unable to be hurt without hurting others..." ok, that sounds profound "...and women must simply bear it" WHOA! WTF! Name one person who said or thought that, other than your self! "women must simply bear men hurting them" That statement is so loaded, it would fall through the star Sol and come out on the other side unchanged. How do you come up with that? Who encourages women to bear violence from men?! You can't be serious. I know people lie, I lie sometimes too - but to state something so twisted... I can't fathom it. "Women must simply bear it" Wow... maybe it's one of those lies or views that if you hear repeated enough times, you get sucked into. Or maybe it's a super manipulative statement that twists reality beyond recognition with the purpose to paint a very specific image. Wait, maybe if i repeat something 5 times ill start believing it. Some women want to paint themselves and other women as victims and avoid responsibility at any cost. Some women want to paint themselves and other women as victims and avoid responsibility at any cost. Some women want to paint themselves and other women as victims and avoid responsibility at any cost. Some women want to paint themselves and other women as victims and avoid responsibility at any cost. Some women want to paint themselves and other women as victims and avoid responsibility at any cost. Nope.... still don't believe it.

Peterson is on point. Atwood sounds like she has no clue what she is talking about. Both of my grandmothers lived through the most devastating war loosing husbands and trying to care for kids while working men's jobs restoring bombed out railways. Atwood may fantacise as much as she wants in her ivory tower, but she is thowing women and children under the bus. Very malevolent.

Jordan Peterson's voice quavers (he's always breaking into tears about what men are going through) as he talks about all these miraculous buildings men have "worked themselves to death" building. He should remember that during WWII, when able-bodied men were off fighting, women took over the production of arms and heavy machinery, doing the same work men had previously done. That's one of the reasons why Hitler was beaten. This is unacknowledged and the myth promoted that while men were off making sacrifices, women were sitting at home waiting for letters from their husbands and fiances. When the war ended, women were "let go," back to the home so that men could perform these "manly" jobs. Women who had operated cranes were told that they should now feel fulfillment in operating household appliances. The "feminists" Peterson refers to are the transgenderite wokies. Feminists have never said that there are no differences between the sexes. They're called "terfs" and are regularly assaulted by the feminised men that JP calls feminists. Peterson doesn't even acknowledge this, probably because it doesn't support the myth of masculinity he's trying to create.

Hmm, few years back I read a feminist bestseller called "Inferior" by Andrea Saini (I think that was the author's name), who for the better part of the book argued that the idea that men and women vary in psychological traits is a sexist myth created to justify women's supposed inferiority. It seems to me that mainstream feminism is well on board with trying to debunk male and female differences.

The likes of Jessie James with his seemingly benevolent desire to help young men but at the same time tells young men constantly demeaned, rejected and outcast that those same perpetrators of that behavior should be uplifted and they should venerate, apologize to and uplift those same perpetrators as if that will make their world better is the worst form of individual destruction. You start no-where on their ground and demean / marginalize their suffering from the first minute you speak to them by minimizing it compared to a very one sided version of history about the role of women and downplaying the centuries of suffering and dying of men. It is clear in that moment, for the likes of you Jessie James, that: You don't and won't empathize with them, your client, patient, the youth in your clinical care. You do not want the best for the youth you consult because you are trying to mold them into something you want, not something they want and may need to discover. The clear failure of these virtue signalling types like Jessie James and the success in Jordan Peterson is that the latter challenges you to become the best person you can be without telling you what that should be and to come up with a system that works for you. Not some Neo-Theocratic type goal of "Equity of outcome" based on factually one sided and hyperbolas interpretations of history that is at odds with out biology, our history, day-to-day reality and is therefore at odds with self-evident truth!!
