FR THO its gonna go to totk because the industry has a hard on for zelda even the music is just... fine, there are some fantastic pieces and its an amazing game but none of it or anything other soundtrack this year stands close to ffxvi

Understandably a good choice for favorite track, there's so many that had me so hyped that I'm personally unable to choose though if I was forced to say one, it would this one or Ascension

Ascension isn't even Soken, it's Ryo Furukawa! :P And Find the Flame is a work between Soken and Yoshitaka Suzuki too. Please do remember the other incredible musicians that work on FF games, even if Square Enix advertise them as though Soken is some solo monster.

@@magnusfyr Being the composer means he made the base themes and melodies used throughout the game in many places. It's Furokawa who took those melodies and lyrics written by Koji-Fox and made them into the final song. It's not to say Soken didn't contribute the groundwork, but by that same logic there are tons of songs in XVI (and XIV) composed by Nobuo Uematsu and he should be credited for those, rather than the arranger, which is not giving them the credit they deserve.

@@magnusfyr From what I understand of these things (which I'm not an expert, I admit there could be gaps or inaccuracies), folks like Furukawa make the songs themselves using leitmotifs or thematic parts already written by Soken for overall use in other songs and overarching themes. It's like when someone uses elements of Star Wars themes in various Star Wars games; the original was composed and written by John Williams and he'd be credited as a composer for that part, but it doesn't necessarily mean he had any hand in what was arranged by the arranger down the line. It's similarly why Uematsu is credited as "composer" for many of his remixed songs in XIV despite having absolutely zero input in the remixing process. VGMDB is ultimately the best place to get a decent understanding of how much folks have done or haven't done, but no one will know the true involvement other than the artists themselves. Either way, to me I see the arranger as the one that takes the melodies and weaves them into the final product, so they deserve way more attention than they're ever sadly given. Not that that's my, yours, Toxic or anyone's fault except Square Enix. They always roll out Soken or Uematsu and the others just sort of quietly exist. I'd be fascinated to learn more and would welcome SE giving us more of a look into the music of XIV, XVI, Stranger of Paradise and the various other game with large teams of musicians doing arrangements.

But I still would credit Ascension itself more to Furukawa either way and feel like he definitely deserves the attention much like the many other arrangers that are ignored entirely. Again, I wish SE would give us a proper look behind the scenes with Soken and his gang, it'd be so fascinating after ten years of XIV and now XVI too.
