I have an English PC (USA) copy of this game where the enemy in question is NOT censored. Also, in the Collector's Edition on PS1 (NTSC-U/C English) the enemy in question IS censored.

Believe it or not, the enemy design was actually left uncensored in the PS4/PS5 rerelease of this game

Wait, that was the reason why they changed this enemy? I thought he was reskinned because the enemy looked more like a Jungle Hunter (his hat behind the back might be mistaken for backpack thought) so they made him more colorful to better resemble something out of Woody's Roundup collection. xD

Ahhh yes I do remember the "Micah Bell" Cowboy dolls from the EU PC version lol. What people don't seem to talk about much is how different versions of the game have different grunts for Buzz (when he jumps, pushes crates etc). It's kinda weird really, like how the N64 version moves a few music tracks around as well. Or how the Game Over screen in some versions has no music, meaning you're just faced with a chillingly silent still image of Buzz...

That's like if I, being Swedish, would complain over Viking characters. They were real, I most likely had a Viking in my family tree. Even tho I have roots in Belgium as well. N64 versions are actually censored as well, but only v1.1 of the game (don't know about regions).

I remember playing this game on pc (EU) as a kid and I swear that the enemy wasn't changed.

Just reminds me of how so many games censor the Native American characters into Cowboys. That is WAY more offensive than showing the Native American outfits(most Indians don't care, as shown by that redskins poll). Because who killed off most of the Indians and largely replaced them? The Cowboys. :3 The fact that this is a standard enemy shows how hard people try to be offended. They have to go out of their way to hunt for something to be mad about, so they can always be the victim. I actually have this game on N64, but I didn't even remember this enemy existed.

I must have a super early release of the game on disc for Windows in North America, because I've always had the pre-censored character model. I know there's unused leftover Playstation graphics and UI from before it was ported to Windows on the disc, so some copies with the pre-censored model might have slipped through the cracks?

Dear Censored Gaming As you know I have played both the Playstation 1 version and the PC version of the game. I did have Buzz Lightyear fight the black haired, mustache cowboys with their shotguns in the Playstation 1 version. The USA PC version I also played was uncensored so I won't get to see those blonde haired cowboy replacements. Also did you know in the Disney movie Toy Story 2. Disney and Pixar has censored the scene from the original USA Toy Story 2 where Buzz Lightyear has given a pep talk to the toys about not giving up and the USA flag shows up on screen while the Star Spangled Banner Anthem is played. However in the censored worldwide version of Toy Story 2 the USA flag has been replaced with a globe with fireworks and the Star Spangled Banner Anthem has been replaced by a music score instead. Can you tell me if that censored movie cutscene was also in the worldwide versions of Toy Story 2 for Playstation 1 or PC? I would appreciate it thanks.

Well... the character portrays as a mexican in the most ridiculous looking and as a character the player has to destroy, knowing the fact U.S people has their reputation as a country against mexicans, it makes some sense. As a mexican who always lived in Mexico I never payed attention to it, I was too kid 😄 I should feel more offended by the fact this game wasn't even translated and dubbed to spanish in my country (I know some english but I did learn it since 13). The censorship is totally pointless as a censorship because the videogame officially and popularly sold in Mexico was the first United States release version but I didn't even know about this controversy I was too kid. So why would they censor it for european countries? It's strange how easy is to find the U.S uncensored release version of this game on the internet, everywhere but when I wanted to search the U.S censored version for PS1 I couldn't find it, it's not leaked! Well I was able to create a U.S censored version with some mod tricks (spanish translation/dubbing included) 🤓 but I mean the official game is not leaked, nowhere! 😮 Another game I wanted to search... Spiderman 2: Enter Electro uncensored U.S version, is not leaked! I only find the censored version, speaking about U.S releases, the european versions are uncensored.
