I seriously just changed my injectors at 250K on my Prado 150 1KD. I decided to check my oil pickup yesterday and it was as clean as it came from the factory. Lucky??? I always changed my oil between 5K and 7K kms

Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this properly & correctly. I worked in the trade from the mid 80's to mid 90's so understand what you're saying. I own a 1KD FTV however & try to learn as much as possible about the engine so I can service it properly. There is so much rubbish online about this engine it's pretty easy to get confused. Thanks again for clarifying this & other facts re the 1KDFTV👍💪

Hi Peter, Great information, as a diesel technician myself I see false diagnosis every day, just like you where explaining to many times prople try to repair the symptoms and not the actual fault or failure. By the way my 1KD I brought from you in 2017 is going strong done close to 100,000km now, no issues what so ever, still returning 15.2 km/L, verry happy and highly recommend your product and workmanship. As you know Peter, it's the pistons themselves. In Toyota's own words from an engineering report done in 2014, it's not the injectors. What happens on some vehicles is they develop a cavity on the edge of the combustion chamber. This causes a weakness on the top of the piston in this area. Then somewhere down the track this will lead to the piston holing and cracking. Toyota Motor Corporation are now on their fourth redesign of the genuine pistons. 2017 was the last attempt to fix this ever increasing problem (130 piston). There is one very dishonest person on social media that has mislead a lot of people about this very subject. The reason why is to profit out of selling injectors. He isn't even a Denso dealer and was buying his injectors through Cornells in Melbourne. Very bad situation for all the other Denso dealerships in the country who have forked out good coin and knowledge to become an authorised Denso dealership. I would recommend people change out their injectors at 160,000 to 200,000kms. The reason for this is that on the 1KD-FTVs the coating on the injector seats (sheets) start to denigrate. You have to pull the injectors out to change out the injector seats out any way. 100,000 to 120,000km installing of new injectors is just profiteering and propaganda. The person who was pedalling this crap knew about the Toyota engineering report in 2014 because I told him. He still went on to rip off thousands of people by selling them injectors that were not needed. Funny thing is, he holed and cracked his own pistons early last year and then didn't tell anyone for about a year. He only told people after I came out on social media about it. Unfairly is not the word. More like a criminal doing the same or similar things as he was convicted on before. Yes, this person has a criminal record. I will be the first one to admit, I don't care about a person having a criminal record, but not when you do it again or similar and rip off so many good people. He will get his, and they always do.

Sounds kinda similar to the iLoad issues with worn injector washers and consequently the injector adding more fuel.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge Peter, wondering if you could give me a rough estimate on the life span of a Denso Injector from a 1KD non DLC ? Also, any tips on prolonging the life of the original pistons in a 1KD ?

Hi mate, just looking for some heads up for 1kd ftv,engine oil is mixing with coolant, changed oil cooler,replaced head with head gasket,could it be that theres a crack in the cylinder head, or should is there a bypass in the turbo,engine is running fine ,no heating up or power loss, no oils discolouration on the cap or dip stick, never have come up this problem..
