I have a 2011 kia sorento and a 2009 kia borrego that have the start up rattle for over yera, I found that if I park them at a sligh angle, the front higher than the back there is not start up rattle.

Hi peter. My 1GD has been tuned and had the egr disabled. Can the egr water lines be bypassed to prevent coolant entering the motor in the event of an egr cooler fail

Did the Last model 1kd prado (2015) get upgraded injectors and pistons.

Hi, 2015 still has the same injectors as 2010, they are fitted with 110 pistons which crack worse then the early ones from what we see. I have a few vids on the way re 110 pistons.

@enginecare1417 God now I'm really confused. On some forums it says the opposite, and a bloke on KZfaq says 2015 is the go. Another question, why is it the prados that are cracking pistons and not the hiaces and hiluxes with the same motor. Thanks for passing on your knowledge Peter.

Hi, 110 pistons are in 2014 onwards and crate engines form Toyota, they are the worst for cracking, we have them coming through every week cracked.

Also your video isnt complete, I'm assuming you start to warn against pressure testing the cooling system to find the leak as it could force coolant into the intake where it could hydraulic lock the engine and bend a rod?

Hey mate, just a clarification, the A/C condenser is in front of the radiator, so radiator/engine temp does not affect the cooling ability and pressure in the A/C system. The reason it cuts out is due to the ecu having a pre set temperature threshold, once head temperature reaches that, it will cut the ac compressor to help engine cooling in the event of an overheat.

Spot on Peter, you got to look at the big picture. Having an issue right now with the 1VD, pinging under load, just trying to identify which cylinder and what it might be, cars got 41k kms on it, had been on it side in a ditch, oil in exhaust which we cleaned up, initially had misfire and rough idle codes which have now cleared up, any help is appreciated ty

100% WILL split/crack the piston crown on a 1HZ aftermarket turbo build. Even with a really mild tune they do it. Head gaskets have always been an issue with the 1HZ as well as cracks between in the centre of the head. Sad really since the block material is really good. Ive never ever seen a broken ring land on a turbo'd 1HZ, only dozens of split pistons. Only time ive seen broken ring lands is when the "locals" used a petrol rag over the air filter to start them instead of replacing glow plugs. Over all they respond well but dont last, even when "built" for a turbo. Better off getting a 1HDT, much better option in every regard.

The EGR pipe wrapping around cylinder 1 inside the head casting is bizarre... I'd love to know more about that Peter. I have previously always left EGR systems alone, just regularly cleaned it, but figured the engine is designed to run with it so don't f***k with it. But it sounds like the EGR gets #1 piston bloody hot, and I wonder if this is the most common piston to fail? Leaving legality aside, would a blanking plate (with 7mm hole) in the EGR cool this issue down a little?
