Thanks man, followed your video along with a few others, and it was not bad at all. Changed the spark plugs and PCV valve. I did knock the air tube gasket into the engine when removing the secondary air injection pump. Fortunately, I found it but I recommend to anyone else to remove that gasket before removing that pump. I spent about 30 minutes looking for it, but everything else was a breeze!

Thanks for posting this, this was very helpful. I learned that I probably don't need to do mine just yet. After seeing it here though, I'm very confident I can replace these myself without any issue.

@KendrasEdge757 6 ай бұрын
Yeah I believe the secondary air injection on the 4Runner 1GR-FE didn’t start until 2013. However, unless the gaskets are damaged, they’re not needed to be replaced when removing the valves for plugs or any other reason. Thankfully Toyota typically builds things correctly and knowing these have to be removed to replace plugs they made them out of metal and not some other material that would degrade from the heat and break upon first removal.

Good guide. Hey I want to convert my 22 orp 4runner to dual zone auto climate control. I ordered the climate control unit. The harness plugs right in. Turn car on and it lights up and buttons work except the fan speed never turns on and I don’t see temp either. Any idea if it’s something in software with techstream or a reset procedure or learning ?
@VikingsGarage
@VikingsGarage Жыл бұрын
Honestly I’m pretty sure that it’s a different wire harness and or air con box assembly. The Dual climate control cars have extra motors in the air con box assembly that models without it don’t have. Last time I looked into this, that was the conclusion. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’m a new sub cuz I love your videos! I have a 4th Gen 4Runner, but they’re basically the same. Couple questions- does your engine want iridium plugs where mine want copper? Also, I seem to remember being told to use dielectric grease on the coils. Is that necessary? I didn’t see you do it. TIA
@VikingsGarage
@VikingsGarage Жыл бұрын
it does use iridium plugs, they all use the same spark plug( part number in the description of the video). dielectric grease on the coils would only possibly help if you’re having water/moisture issues, there’s no need for that. let’s not overthink it. welcome to the Channel!!

I noticed you don’t use anti-seize on the spark plugs, or the PVC, does Toyota not recommend that? Also, I was wondering what your thoughts are on catch cans. You’ve probably seen the inside of engines more than other people do they prevent sludge from building up.
@VikingsGarage
@VikingsGarage Жыл бұрын
NO anti-seize Sir! PCV, already comes with a thin layer of it. Catch cans are good/needed on boosted vehicles not under normal circumstances. Sludge buildup is a result of poor maintenance and owners neglect. Change your oil when recommended and you will be fine.

Viking! Awesome videos. I’m running into an issue with my ‘22 4R ORP. My rear spoiler has rubbed up against the body of my car and caused a good sized paint chip. It’s not a gas cap, you need to test that banks emission pump aka Air injection pump. It’s probably stuck closed. I’ve seen it quite a few times, moisture gets in there and creates friction in the valves shaft. Just replace it!
