TOYOTA ENGINE MISFIRE EASILY FIXED!

Got a visit by a Toyota Corolla Verso 2005 that was running on three cylinders only. The engine is the 1,8 liter 1ZZ-FE , VVT-i .
First and easiest to check is if any fuel injector was out. Disconnecting one at a time could have revealed by the sound of the engine that it was cylinder number four that misfired. However, the resistance was fine at just over 15 ohms, so the primary suspect became the ignition.
The ignition coil number four (near the gear box) was swapped with coil number three. A car scanner app and a universal ELM 327 OBD2 code reader revealed that the misfire was moved from cylinder number four to number three. The fuel injector disconnection method is an option if one has no code reader.
The coil was marked:
Toyota 90080 - 19019 Denso Made in Spain
The nearest scrap yard had a good one and for 30 Euro the problem was solved!

i took off the plugs one by one but unfortunately in all cases the engine fails to start if any plug is off. something else then . with all plugs on it runs rough like there is a misfire. great video though , so nice and simple , well done !

What happens if you disconnect the injectors one at a time while the engine is running? Can´t you identify the misfiring cylinder then?

thanks for your reply , appreciated . what i found is that i must not disconnect the plug but rather take the coil out of the cylinder head and reconnect it to its plug and just lay it down . then the engine will start and i can locate the bad cylinder by trial . but if i leave the coil unplugged the engine wont start . maybe there is a common wire throughout all the plugs , not sure . this is a 1zzfe 1600 . but what is cool is i found the bad coil and replaced it . thanks so much for your simple and effective method . im going to have a small whisky now and will drink to your health !!!

I replaced the valve timing solenoid in my 2001 toyota avalon and it runs much better. No misfiring and idles at 800 rpm. Check engine light and VCS lights are back on. Any suggestions??😊

Hi Steven. Suggest that you get a basic OBD2 wifi or bluetooth transmitter, and a car scanner app. Then you can read the error codes.

i check by unpluging the injectors. but how would i know its injectors or igniton coild ?

Hi Justin. If you unplug one injector at a time and pay attention to how the engine is running, then you will notice if the misfire will change or not while doing that. If one specific cylinder is unaffected by the disconnection, then you have identified the right cylinder. After that you can swap ignition coils between two cylinders and check in the same way. If the misfire follows the coil, then you have it identified. If not, then the injector is the primary suspect.

I have all cylinders misfire after having my transmission swapped with a brand new one. All my coil packs and spark plugs are brand new. Still misfiring. I can't figure it out. 2003 Toyota matrix automatic

Since replacing the transmission doesn’t have much to do with the coil packs I’d say check the grounds make sure they are all good since the engine was probably removed or moved around. Also, check all your ignition wires that could have been pinched.

I think misfire engine isn't only bad coil and sparks plugs My corolla engine has misfire issues and no one could fix it whenever the car is idle for more than 1 hour if I start the engine it will rough idle for minimum of 15 minutes before the engine will runs normal I have changed so many things yet the problem remains the same3

Look into your fuel injectors, I had misfires on cylinder 1 and 2 and replaced all 4 injectors, resolved the problem.

Drove 4 hours with a misfire. Hopefully it is because failed injector.

Hi. Injector or coil, as can be seen the coil is easy to replace. When an injector goes, sometimes the misfire can be a bit random before the misfire gets permanent.

@@hoojiesgarage1542I replaced my coil and injectors and I’m still misfiring on cylinder 2 what else could the issue be ? Maybe crank sensor I heard possibly ?
