Thanks so much for this vid! I have an 02' that I've been refurbishing. All new fluids, complete rebuild of brakes all around, etc. The car sat for 8 years in my side yard; a jump and it started on the first crank! My one concern right now is...when the engine is cool but not cold(after a trip to the grocery for example), the idle takes maybe a minute to settle down. Will rev between 700 and 2000. IACV replaced two years ago. MAFS and throttle body cleaned recently. Idle fine when fully warmed up. Also, just how important is inspecting valve lash? Engine has approx. 100,000 mi. It's the second motor, and I don't know its entire history as I bought the car in 08' with it already installed. Great, little, BASIC transportation. 40+ mpg on the freeway with a five speed manual.

My 2007 is pushing 190,000 miles and the only issue so far was a check engine light at 188,000 miles. The guy who scanned it tried to sell me a $160 oxygen sensor. @@jamescostello7584 I use full synthetic oil, OEM filter every 5000 miles w/out fail. It's a manual trans so I replace that oil every 50K. I do all of the work on it myself so when I change the oil I get every drop out, take my time. It's 2 years later and sitting at 280,000 miles. I've had to replace the driver's door actuator and valve cover gasket. I decided to go ahead and replace the water pump and thermostat recently just to be safe even though they were still working fine. At almost 300k it doesn't hurt to get out in front of some of those things if you can afford to. Also replaced the fuel cap because I was getting the P0456 code ($6 fix). This video helped me to identify several symptoms my 2005 Corolla has, now with more mileage than the one he shows in this video, more than 256, 350 miles; Replacing the Vapor Canister, with the original Toyota part, several rubber hoses from the EVAP System, which were showing small cracks, the VVTI Solenoid Valve which was leaking, and related parts like the intake manifold gasket, which is made of plastic, apparently the first years Toyota Corollas started to use a plastic intake manifold, and now the car accelerates smoothly, but I suspect there is another vaccum leak this time from the exhaust manifold, which some people over the Internet show a creative way to diagnose, by connecting a vaccum cleaner hose to the muffler, even with tape to help with this connection, and start the vaccum with the engine off, then spraying water to the exhaust manifold parts like you do to find a leak on a tire due to a nail or something similar. Many decided to keep using even daily their Toyotas as far as they can, instead of paying the unfair and ridiculous mark ups. Is a challenge because for daily use, even a Toyota has to be repaired properly, you can't go cheap.

Just replaced the starter on my '08 Toyota Corolla earlier today. I noticed that I was having trouble starting my car and initially thought it was the battery since the weather was getting hotter. I had trouble starting my car and got stuck at my cousin's house. I borrowed my aunt's truck and used my tools. The battery tested fine and I pulled off the starter. When I did, I say that it was the original starter from when the car was made. o_O I took it in and bought a brand new, not re-manufactured, starter and put it in. My car fired right up and I was able to use to get to work. Needless to say, I was happy to be back on the road. Aside from a replacement gas cap, a few flats, and routine maintenance, my corolla has been pretty reliable since I've bought it, which was January/ February of 2020. Overall, an excellent video. ^_^

I owned a Corolla S 03, my very first car. I bought with 175k miles when I was in high school, 5 years later I sold it with 245k miles. Never let me down, only issues I had was the radiator, water pump and thermostat but other than that never had big issues. I drove that beater from Georgia all the way to Maryland, drove back. I regret selling it now that gas prices are mess up.

I have been working on cars for 10 years, went to Toyota TTen school, worked for Toyota/Lexus for half of those years, and I have never seen a Master Cylinder go bad on one of these. A much more prominent problem on these would be the intake plenum gasket/MAP sensors causing a rough idle and lean code first thing on a cold morning.

I have a 2006 corolla, and I drove for a year and half with the code P0171. I replaced the Mass air sensor, but it didn't work. I assume that is due to manifold gasket. Is that ok still driving it without fixing it if I want run another 100k miles?

my 04 corolla le started to leak oil from the timing chain tensioner at 90k km in 2021. I noticed it started to hate going up hills that it used to climb without a problem and during my oil change at 90k I saw that my power steering pump was coated in fresh oil and I changed the o ring gasket and it has stopped leaking since. otherwise absolutely solid and I can't complain

I had a 2005 - never had any problems other than changing the battery and brake pads. I sold it cause I had 2 other vehicles. These Corollas are bullet proof if you maintain them. ALWAYS CHANGE YOUR OIL EVERY 5000 MILES WITH SYNTHETIC OIL + SPECIAL OIL FILTER and it will run forever.

I’m in Alaska work at toyota dealership. We have never seen 1 master cylinder come in for any issues. I have many friends that own shops. They’ve never had any come in. Far as the tensioner never seen any come in. VVT solenoid haven’t seen any issues. No starter issues either,,,, the gas cap issue is a individual error a lot of the time cap not on completely,,,,,227,000 miles on the 1 your working on is awesome. Lol,,,, what part of the United States are you guys located ? I’m not making this up. I’m honestly telling you the truth. No arguing

I had a belt tensioner replacement (bolt breaking). 2006 Corolla at 130,000 miles, currently at 189,000. I did have engine issues but the Engine Control Computer warranty replacement solved that issue a few years down the road though. No issues on timing belt, or master cylinder. Starter sounds maybe so, so or its me holding down the key to long especially on cold mourning's. Gas cap issues, when in a hurry twice didn't tighten the cap down properly. One problem right headlight wiring short, burned around my socket and bulb plus wearing out the battery. Partial wiring change with socket. (I'm really happy that I bought a car with a timing chain.)

I’ve had an 07 ce for a few months now. Originally was going to get rid of it and get something newer but then I realized...why? It was only supposed to be a winter beater but so far has exceeded expectations. 206k, A/T. The 1zz is a very reliable engine. Recently I replaced most of the gaskets and even that made a world of difference. Couple other Corolla things to note: interior door handles and rear speakers. Handles get brittle after years of use, but that’s minor. If you don’t have tinted windows The rear speakers rot from heat and UV exposure and most 9th gens I see have aftermarket ones installed by now, being 14+ year old cars. Mine still has stock and they buzz and are torn. If that’s the worst of it though, I’ll never own another car! Everything else works as day 1. Toyota pwns

Hello. Have you seen problems with long cranktime in this generation corolla (I have a 2007 with low mileage and long cranktime). I had many things done on it and hasnt' fixed it (both O2 sensors, cat coverter, fuel pump assembly, intake manifold gasket, spark plugs, etc, etc. Also had other sensors tested okay, such as coolant temp sensor, crank sensor).

Thanks dude.... this is super awesome to know (and be prepared for) the typical problems with my (18 year old - 150K miles) 9th Generation Corolla. My car has a rattling startup that make a noise when I decelerate to/accelerate from a stop, and it typically goes away approximately 3 minutes later after engine warms up. Any ideas? Could it be that clogged screen to the VVTI you mentioned?
