So which mode technically is best for daily driving?

I think it depends on how far you're driving and how much you charge. If the entire trip is under 25 miles and you're going to charge again, then EV or maybe EV AUTO if you want extra punch on really hard acceleration and hills. If you're going a longer way so battery is sure to run out, it's possible that hybrid mode will maximize efficiency (???). It's amazing how little guidance Toyota gives.

My Prius having a service last week, was returned with MPG set at AVERAGE, whereas my preferred setting is TRIP. Can any kind person tell me how to change from AVERAGE back to TRIP

There is button on right side of steering, you can switch between all three modes. It's very simple, nothing to do with service, it's normal in every car.. just need to find trip button inside steering

When driving on a highway and you want to save the EV battery for later city driving, how do you do it?

You set it to the normal mode (the dashboard display nothing).

@MoMo BaBa The power mode (redish display on the screen) is different than the normal mode (I know I tried both). There is also the eco mode for more economical driving - normal and eco modes are hybrid mode. The power mode is EV mode when there is sufficient battery load. And there is the auto mode for letting the system decide what is the best mode.

You need to hold the HV/EV bouton for 3 seconds and then a icon of charging the battery will appear. Doing so will make your car run on the gasoline motor only and charge your battery 1 km for every 1.5 km travelled. Which means that running for 60 km on gasoline only, will make your car charge 40 km of battery.

I've been looking for an answer to that for several years. But I don't have faith in the answers you received. Did you buy the vehicle and find out? My question is more along the lines of.... If it is 40 below and I am planning a trip on the highway and I have a charged battery and my gas engine heater has heated it so it would start now, can I run on gas first rather than starting out on electric, get 15-20 miles from home and the charge runs out and the gas engine has to start and immediately run at highway speeds without being warmed up and blows to pieces because the cold oil won't circulate fast enough. The only answers I have ever gotten are along the lines of why would that be a concern?

I'd like to make the car switch to gas when it goes higher than 68KM/H. Is it possible to customize the EV Auto function?

Hi Dima, the 2017 Toyota Prius Prime will switch to gas engine operation in EV/EV auto mode when the vehicle speed is more than approximately 84 mph (135 km/h). This speed is not customizable. Thank you for your inquiry. ^BP

@@toyotausa Too bad it's not customizable. I've noticed I get the best savings when I switch to gas at around 68 KM/h. The the 2020 car is great, but it feels like Toyota hires engineering people who don't drive Prius Prime or Toyota cars in general..

EV will drive on pure electric battery power until it is depleted. EV Auto will drive using battery power majority of the time but if you need to go faster or pass a vehicle, the internal combustion engine (I.C.E.) may turn on to give you more power.

I like the car, but dumbest idea ever to have two buttons for three driving modes. Right next to one button that cycles through three power modes.

My vehicle kicks in the gas engine automatically at 100% battery charge and EV mode only. As recorded in a downhill drive, the gas engine turns on without any plausible reasons. Review the video at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iKhdis98ztG6g2g.html

The engine turned on is for engine braking since regeneration braking while downhill and with a full battery can damage electronics components. It's not a bug.
