Great technical rundown. Love to see a longer video discussing the differences, particularly addressing the question of longevity for the 4 cyl vs the v8.

Mate you need to sort out the audio in your videos its so bloody quiet.

Im just an armchair expert but wouldnt it be a sick engine if toyota just made a 1gd with two extra slugs?

Buy a clip on mic...please.

So the obvious fix is the V8 needs a cam swap and ported heads that's going to wake it up massively.

Love these videos Peter. Great for you to show some of the engineering of the engine components and how that translates to performance/reliability

Is this the same for the twin turbo as the single turbo in the 70 series? When rebuilding a 1VD, is there much room for enlarging the ports and upgrading the camshafts to increase the breathing capacity without exceeding the risks of exceeding other limitations? Reliability is what really matters in the long run.

Great information. I do notice lately the voice of your videos are poor. Perhaps If you could have a microphone nearby will be much better. Thanks nevertheless. Great channel.

The 200 makes decent power stock though
@einfelder82624 ай бұрын
No it does not. It's pathetic for a common rail V8.

Interesting explanation. Its not just displacement

How big is the inlet port on the 1GD? Is it 20c coin in size or 50c? You didn't quite show a comparison, but just alluded to the 1VD having a small inlet port.

Can you do an engine conversion on the LC 200 putting 2.8 1GD engine? What would be the effects?
@chasp_07844 ай бұрын
Interesting! Shame about those woeful heads, has much been done in the way of improving the heads, everyone just does the regular stuff, blow smoke and knock their arse off. Sound good tho 😂 and that’s important

You can spend $12k on a stage 3 tune and get 300kw out of the v8. How much would you have to spend on the 2.8 to get that power? But the power is not the point of these engines. Long live the v8.
@nichudnic24692 ай бұрын
Awesome. Have you performance modified a 1VD?
@mrdoodle87484 ай бұрын
Longevity will be the question when people start loading these 2.8's with weight & towing caravans. should be interesting..

But if you have loud exhaust on your 1VD it's got 500hp. 😂😂

must admit, ive always been dead against 4 bangers in big utes, but damm those v8 heads are pathetic, there really bad,Im certainly not going to be barracking for that engine anymore, That v8 be a whole different beast with some decent heads

Hey you say 1VD has poor ports have you worked on the ports to make em any better

Wouldn’t you use the 4 cylinder as it has way less moving parts?
@ryan84884 ай бұрын
Great points, thanks for sharing that. What do you think of longevity of the reduced capacity? Conventional wisdom says a smaller capacity engine is more stressed doing the same amount of work. Is this just a myth?
@einfelder82624 ай бұрын
People have been perpetrating that myth forever. There are plenty of small capacity engines doing the same "work" as old large capacity engines and they can run 500,000k plus. 4JJx Isuzu for example.

But the landshitter is the best ever 4wd in the universe! How did they go from the best engine ever (1HD-FTE) to this pile of shit? Toyota should get an award for the most over rated and over priced 4wd ever produced over the longest amount of time.
@deanjohnston93604 ай бұрын
I think your selling the v8 short

The 1VD V8 cruiser engine is hands down the worst landcruiser engine ever build. Believe me I know from personal experience with 3 of them blowing up!
