This is one of the most underrated engines in the auto world. Half a BILLION dollars went into R&D for it. It's certified as an aircraft engine. It had over 400 prototypes. Toyota left no stone unturned in looking for the BEST way to make a V8 when they created this. No wonder they can last for 1, 600, 000 kms.

@@TaylorMadejdm1975 that was for the whole car (LS400) the motor itself cost approximately 400 million or so in design.

I own a few of these monster v8’s there awesome in design and cost over 400 mil to design the chassis cost the other 600 mil in the ls400 to build, these can hold 1000 hp no problem

Putting a 1uzfe in my old trooper, starting the rebuild of the donor engine this week, came out of a running vehicle in good shape but replacing all the gaskets etc while it's out so I won't have to mess with that again for years to come. It's a well built engine, mine is a first gen non VVTI 10 to 1 non interference one.

I bought a sc400 1992 model to 2jz swap, one I did my homework on this motor, holy crap I am keeping it.

I love that timing belt cover. One piece vs. the stock multiple piece with the rubber edge guards that eventually become stiff and can fall of into the timing belt cog at the crank, thereby making the belt jump time. Ask me how I know :-(

Bro i was doing the timing belt and some of the crap fell off into the crank when i already had the plastic cover on and all the other fixings on. Its sucks because i still have yet to find a place that manufactures those plastic covers.

Is the torque limited in the race Application. Would have thought it would be making a lot more torque than that

If you have 2 intake and exhaust valves that are smaller in diameter than a 2 valve engine would .500 lift on the 4 valve be equal to 1" lift on a larger valve diameter 2 valve engine?

Nah, overall valve surface area and port design have to be taken into account. Also youre limited to how much valve lift you can run without cutting into pistons too much, and affecting compression/squish

To add to that, you get exponentially less airflow increase with a linear lift increase.

why all the crazy bottom end mods??? Ive got one making 750bhp on stock bottom end just with race bearings in it????

Your boosted build doesn't turn the RPM's these strung out N/A builds do. And being they go in race cars, they need them to be as reliable at those power levels and rpm's as can be. These HRE engines start around $30K.

8000 rpm isn’t high rpm for an over square engine if race restrictions removed they probably could breath up higher

Because thats a 1uz vvti. Unlike early non vvti 1uz’s the rods are way too skinny to be reliable above 400hp. Also the high lift from the cams would run valves into stock pistons, so might as well get a forged lighter piece to help offset the beefier rod.

NA build race car always more expensive than turbokit. 4age16 turbo kit will get 250 hp easy n cheap, but 4age16 formula atlantic will price more than $20, 000. But you cant beat NA high revving motor race car regulation class by just turbokit install

its the on and off nature of the racing, and the use of the go peddle,. These motors are to start a race from standing start position, they go straight to red line from standing still, and they go on and come off the loud peddle many times over the distance of 12 laps on a 450 meter track, causing strain on the motors. Also the motors get smashed in to concreate walls and other cars made to be hit so need to take the bangs, need to handle the heat, need to do it 3 times a night, and 3 months of the year, you run your make believe 750 HP like these guys run there motors and your will be fukked in no time, these will keep going till the death in a sport where crashes aren't accidents, they are full on attacks, and you expect to carry on racing after the hit, be it giver or taker...got no room, make room..8000 rpm is a lot over a short track...

different motor and different rules. limited to 10-1 compression, ( F1 is 18-1) limited in valve lift, limited in carb cfm, these motors are used in Contact Stockcar Racing NZ style. The restrictions are there only to save lives!!
